Preparing chicken liver for catfishing is vital because it falls off the hook so easily. Chicken liver bait is easy as 3, 2, 1.
For one of the great chicken liver recipes for catfish, mix the following by volume:
3 parts Borax
2 parts brown sugar
1 part pickling salt
Variations on this chicken liver recipe for catfish: add fish oil, crawfish oil, garlic, anise or any other flavoring found useful in other catfish recipes you used. I buy oils from trapping supply companies. They usually have the cheapest prices.

This is how I cure chicken livers. You can use this for kidneys, livers, gizzard form any animal.
Increased my catch by 20%, I wasn't doing bad to start. Thanks brother.

SWEET!
I have bin telling people this for years glad to see someone mad this video
Yup! It works. Amazing what happens when people open their minds a bit.
Damon. On those new wood hand reels you are turning try making one out of a solid block of teak wood It is a lil soft but it floats i had one when i was 7
Thx, man. I'll keep that in mind.
beef melt is beef spleen we use it for alligator hunting you can find it at your local processor...it's realy bloody and kinda medium soft makes a great blood bait
+outlawshinemaker Okay, I'll have to check that out. I've been looking for something like that. Didn't have a clue, lol.
Thank you for putting this on. I use it all the time now, don't always catch fish but i like it anyways.
Yup, it works!
I’m late to the party. I’m curing chicken livers now. Going fishing soon with it. Hopefully, I get good luck with it. Worms haven’t worked too well so far.
Yup, this cure works well. What type of worm were you using?
@@BlackWarriorLures red worms from Walmart.
@@AdamTBest Hmm, yeah, that's it strange, but maybe they don't bit on worms in your area. Yeah, try the cured livers. I've had good luck with them.
Question your 3,2,1, method Are you using cups to measure or just eyeballing it.
Yes, buy volume, but it doesn't have to be perfect.
Ok thanks Im going to try it.
@@Alonzo5821 It's worth it.
Have you tried it with other meats? I am trying it on some cut up beaver meat. It's bloody and sweet meat. Most animals love the taste of it. The liver is awesome!!!
It will work on any meat. the recipe comes from the way Salmon Steelhead fishermen preserve roe for bait. I must iterate: not for human consumption.
Great help. How are my 12 Catfish rigs your making me coming along
Thanks for stopping by again. Yes, yous jugs are #3 three on my order list now. I have two batches of slip floats I need to finish before I start on your order. At that point I will gather the materials and give you an invoice via Pay Pal. Let me know if that works for you.
@@BlackWarriorLureshat are slip floats? I buddy mademe 24 of those drink cup cement weights to hold them
@@tcbridges A slip float/cork/bobber is a strike indicator that allows you to adjust depth to any depth no matter the depth or length of rod: ruclips.net/video/Iio_pmegbM0/видео.html
Does curing liver with salt and all that take away the original scent?
na
I truly gonna try this boss!
It works!
Well brother just made my 1st batch of cured chicken liver but I was wondering why did you use brown sugar instead of regular sugar. Does it make it better because all I had was regular sugar. Hope I'm as happy with it as you are so wish me luck! And tight lines man.
Na, one is just as good as the other. I figured since deer hunters use molasses for deer, brown sugar might do well for catfish. It doesn't make any difference if you use plain sugar or brown.
I've done this it stay on but it get back soft after it's been in the water I want do this again.
Yeah, once the cure dissolves into the water, it will soften up more.
Thanks for the video. Gonna try this for sure.
Glad to help!
Damon, thanks for sharing. Couple of questions; once cured, how long do the livers last. Do they need to be kept in the fridge or can they be cured and then frozen/thawed, when needed? Thanks. I feel your pain (cold?) It is 5 above here with a chill factor of -15. Stay warm my friend.
+Ratdog 305 I've had these out on the boat since before Christmas. Not sure how long they last, but, yes you freeze them and still use them.
why can't you use iodized salt?
A general axiom of wisdom says fish don't like iodine.
Can I get several liver tubs...a big container and just pour the livers in the container...then the cure....and mix?????
Yeah, that's how I do mine now.
Been thinking about doing this for some time. Getting tired of wasting money on livers that end up spoiling before I go through them. Going to try this with Anise extract and dry the liver on a rack. See if it still has the scent. Probably will have to soak the liver in the extract BEFORE curing (before placing in the mixture) or do you think the extract would leech its way into the liver while curing? Great video by the way. subbed
I add it all in at the same time. I usually use Anise oil instead of the extract.
Great tip man! How long does it take to cure the liver? Thanks
+Ceasar jackson About a week. There are two ways to do it. You can let them dry out on a rack, or you can put them back in the bucket using the alternative method described in the video.
I usually don't bother putting it in the refrigerator although you can.
Awesome! Thanks man. I had given up on livers because they keep falling off.
Ty for the advice I'm going to try it this year
It works, works well.
@@BlackWarriorLures come to va we can do some fishing for big cats
So it's okay to add blood back to it ?
Yes, more blood the better.
Ok one more question..... refrigerate or no ?
@@brendadouglas5269 Nope. no need. I've left these out on the boat for a year with no problems.
Excellent video thank you
+Mike Garr Yeah, it works well. Again it's similar to how steelhead fishermen cure salmon eggs out west.
Add some glow in the dark food dye to it? Think it would work with Threadfin shad to help store them?
+Panfish Oh, yeah, I bet UV food coloring would be the ticket! Yeah, I think it would be great for shad or any meat. I plan to learn how to throw a cast net this year, so I'll have to test it to see.
Black Warrior Lures Cast nets work great as long as there isn't any structure to get them caught on lol... I lost my first one to a log.
How long do you keep them in the bag? How long until they dry out?
Well, it doesn't dry out as long as the bag is sealed, and I've had bags stay on the boat for a year, and the livers were still good to fish.
Thanks for the fast response. Just got back from the store bought the ingredients can’t wait to try them out. Will keep you up-to-date
Have another question, how long will it take for them to be ready to fish with?
@@Rudyeltexmex Yeah, it's ready to fish the next day. Just keep it in the cure. I may have to make up another batch. It's about time I update this video anyway.
Thanks, appreciate the help. Will keep you updated
If you leave the liver in the container with the liquid are the livers still more durable to stay on the hook?
Yup! I leave it in the container with the fluid. It get harder because the salt and borax cures it that way.
this cure works for beef melt also
+outlawshinemaker Hmm, What is beef melt? Did you mean pelt?
This is not a 3,2,1 formula!
You already had a bunch of white powder in the bag before you even started measuring! What's up with that?
It's called a previous batch that didn't get used up fully. What was left wasn't enough for the current batch of bait, so I added to it. This is 3:2:1 formula, sir. I would appreciate it if you would recognize this isn't the first time I've used the formula. As I needed more I added more and decided to show how I used it after proving its success for myself. Pleases think before your post. That you for post, but please be mindful and respectful here.
Great tip man! How long does it take to cure the liver? Thanks
