    Man! I love your channel! I used your catfish rig (with the bank sinker on bottom, hook on top, with a leader) and your chicken liver chum bait. Today was the first day using it after making it 3 days ago. (I wasn't able to hit the water until this morning) and that stuff rocks! They werent biting worms or stink bait, so i tried your bait amd the results were out of this world! Caught a whole mess of flatheads and 3 big ol' turtles lol

    Tried your chicken liver chum bait today. It was one of the best days of fishing I've ever had. The fish were literally attacking the bait before it even hit the bottom. Caught about a dozen nice catfish in just a couple of hours. Thanks so much!

    i would like to thank you for the awesome bait recipe.... i used this for the first time tonight and only marinated the chicken thighs in the liver sardine mixture for about 4 hours and it still killed it on the reservoir.... caught 4 fat bull heads and 3 channel cats in a hour and a half.... i used such less bait conserding how well the thighs stay on the hook compared to traditionally using chicken livers alone.... i even caught three cats on the same bait but of course i dipped it back into the marinade after each catch...

    Finally got a chance to try this stuff out. Modified the recipe a bit. Omitted the sardines as I didn't have any, and added a little canola oil and granulated garlic. The garlic improved the smell to more tolerable levels. Started off with nugget sized chunks, and caught nothing but turtles. After 2 hours of nothing, made strips about the size of crawlers. Threaded them on and hammered the cats for an hour. Couldn't keep 2 poles in the water and down sized to a single. By far the best bait.

    I tried this stuff out on Sunday when fishing on the Arkansas River in Little Rock. This stuff definitely attracts fish, and my pole was going crazy. Bad thing was that either the hole I was fishing in had a bunch of small catfish, or I made the mistake by using a size 3/0 circle hook with a rod and reel rig. I'm going to try using an octopus hook next time. Also, this stuff was super messy, but hey it works! I also used smoked herring in oil instead of sardines, and i just dumped it all into the liver smoothie. I made 24 small-to-medium sized chunks for under $5.

  • @muddyrivercatfishing
    @muddyrivercatfishing  11 лет назад

    Yes. I usually make several containers of this bait and freeze them for future use. When I get to my fishing spot they are usually still frozen so /i use them just like that.

  • @muddyrivercatfishing
    @muddyrivercatfishing  11 лет назад

    I've added garlic powder to it and it worked quite well. Not sure if one worked better than the other. That's something I'll have to do a little more research on.

    Just a suggestion you could try to keep the chicken liver/sardine oil flavor on the actual bait longer. You could use one of those flavor syringes to inject the chicken chunks with with the liver/sardine blend.

    I do the same thing except I add a bottle of texas pete and just fish with the liver, of course I saw wal mart is selling fish oil in the tackle section now so i may try replacing sardines with that this year,i drop some cheese hot dogs in the mix to they seem to like them to, have added garlic powder in the past but didn't really seem to make a difference one way or the other.

    I made this bait last friday. I changed it a littke and did two cans of sardines and added tge sardines instead of just the oil. And chunked up about ten small chicken breast. Went to the lake with it 3 hours later and caught ten good cgannel cats. The biggest was 30 inches and tge rest all in mid 20's. Great idea. Also this was a spot I have never fished before and all the catfish were the biggest channel cats I have ever caught. Thanks for the video

      muddyrivercatfishing Well we gave it a shot.On the first day I caught 4 cats in about 1 hour. Yesterday I did a test Secret 7 vs- CLCB(Chicken Liver Chum Bait). I was fishing in the Yellowstone River from the bank with some fairly fast current( used 3ounce bank weight). Secret 7 =0. CLCB = 9. We were catching Channel Cats that were weighing 2-5 pounds and when they were hitting that CLCB you would of thought ya had a BIG CAT on. MuddyRiver the only thing I did was I let it kinda dry out so it wasnt so liquidy and I was totally impressed with your bait. Its the bait I will be using till they dont want it anymore lol. THANK YOU..

    My local lake is known to always have catfish in it. Ive tried many "catfish baits" like the ones they sell pre packaged (ie powerbait catfish, wild cat blood, packaged scented shad) with no luck. Cant wait to give this a try. I made my own little batch of your recipe and cant wait to try it tomorrow. Along with my chicken chunks I threw in halved chicken hearts too. I made sure to puncture the chicken as well as the hearts with a fork to they could better absorb the liver/sardine oil mixture. Will keep updated. Wish me luck!!!... Awesome videos btw...I subbed :)

  • @muddyrivercatfishing

    I use chicken pieces because they stay on the hook better than regular chicken livers. Try using a Mustad C10829 Ultra Point™ Big Gun Catfish Hook. I use a 4/0 and my chicken chunks are at least 1" by 1" cubes or bigger. You can see how big my bait is on the trotline video I just posted. Hope this helps.

    I made this bait also took some chicken and soaked it in red strawberry jello. i took them both to a local river and they both caught fish but I have to say the chum bait out fished the jello chicken. I caught two turtles on the jello chicken and none on the chum bait. I caught a lot of catfish on this bait so give it a try. I will be using it from here on out. Thanks.

    I've never tried gizzards. I use meat because it absorbs the blood and oils and distributes them slowly while you are fishing. Not sure how much blood the gizzards would absorb. Uncle Steve did a video comparing chicken livers to gizzards. He caught all of his fish on liver and none on the gizzards.

    Just found your page....I am going to try making this, but I had a thought. before soaking the bait chunks I wonder if you could take a marinade injector and also inject your chunks. That might be interesting to try, then you would have a resivoir of chum on the inside that would seep from the injection site. Just a thought. Wado, good fishing to you.

    I made a few batches of this bait and have to say I have slayed the channel catfish on it. I also noticed that I've made 3 batches and 2 of them after 3-5 days started to develop a pretty rough scent and that bait was way more effective than the 3rd batch that for some reason had a very neutral scent to it. When you are using this bait does yours typically have a pretty strong scent?

  • @muddyrivercatfishing

    Hey I see you're still working the comments on this. I also seen you did one with a clam juice but didn't notice that video until after I made this. Been using it for 2 weeks now and did an experiment as well. I did one with just sardine oil and another with the oil and the sardines. Nothing touched the oil only and the sardine one got hammered! Going to try it in a lake next week.

      +Robert Ford I wonder what the sardines would do as bait? I imagine it's like the jackmackerel I used to eat as a kid, all crumby etc. But what if you made a bait sack like we do for liver?

    • @robford41984
      @robford41984 9 лет назад

      +Allen Howe I don't know I think you would get a lot more depending on where you fish. Here the eels would tear that up before that catfish got to it.

    What is the purpose of not adding the sardines? Seems it would help hold the scent longer. Also, would it help to "poke holes" in chicken to absorb more of the chum? I'm looking for the most effective way to get the scent into the water. Thanks a million for the chum bait info.

  • @cowpounder57

    Just an idea, but what if you take some of the liquid chum, freeze it into say, golf ball size pieces, and toss them around the area where you're going to be fishing. Wouldn't that act as sort of an attractant and bring in more fish to where you have your baited hook(s), thereby increasing your chances of getting bites? Just wondering what your thoughts are to this idea.

  • @muddyrivercatfishing
    @muddyrivercatfishing  11 лет назад

    Yes. I freeze this bait all the time. I also keep it on ice while I am fishing with it. otherwise it can start to smell really bad.

    Awesome bait! After it sits in the fridge I took an ice cube tray and stuck a piece of meat in every cube opening and poured the "chum juice" around it. Leave a good chunk of meat uncovered to hook then freeze it. Throw it in the cooler and take fishing. Seems to make the chum effect last a bit longer but it's also not hot yet so not sure how useful it will be summer time.

    Is it better to use fresh chicken or does it work better if its past date? And does the amount of time you let it all sit together make a difference or improve the product?

    Hey Kris, I'm a California fisher and like to fish in the aqueduct. I usually use cut bait, but do you think the chicken liver chum would work in the aqueduct? Thanks for the video also!

      +muddyrivercatfishing Went out fishing tonight at the Aqueduct using the Chicken Liver Chum. Not a single bite :(
      I had real high hopes cause of the smell alone. I'm going to give it another try fishing in the early AM's. Will get back to you on that also.

    I've been using this bait for over a year now. It is my go to bait for catfish and it works awesome for me. Thanks for posting this!
    Do you have any tips for making hook removal easier? I use circle hooks and sometimes even when hooked perfectly in the corner of the mouth have a tough time removing the hook. Only with cats though, I never have any trouble with any other species. Any advice? I suppose I could crimp the barb?

    Trying out your chum idea i got sardines in soybean oil. Chicken livers and beef livers in a 20 oz. Pop bottle with rocks. Im gonna throw it out on a string with holes in the bottle and fish with live and cut bait shad. Ill let you know how it goes.
    It smells good to me and the Cat started circleing me as i was making it. Im going for anything i can catch but the place im going is known for big Lake trout Burbot. Channel cats and Walleye and Pike. Im in Michigan and its Dec. 31st.
    I'll repost after tomorrow let you know how i did. Thanks dude i been following your videos for awhile.

    might try adding some egg yarn we use up washington to sponge the chum up and help with hookups. yarn tends to get stuck in the small teeth

    at least 24 hours, but I've had bait that I've taken on several fishing trips. As long as you keep it on ice so that it doesn't spoil it will last for a long time
