    My camp oven is simple 2 large stainless bowls with a round grate in bottom for air flow n 2 metal clips to secure heat works fine. 👍

    The wire rack is not needed with the silicone insert. I got a silicone liner good up to at least 425 degrees for breads not to stick and to store them in after cooking. I'll just cover the silicone with a flat cover and still have the the aluminum pan to use. I got the rack primarily for baking potatoes, the thermometer for use on gas burners which could get too hot burning foods. Also there is a non-stick pan available from Omnia for 'sticky' foods and the pure aluminum pan is not recommended for high acid foods such as with tomato sauce. More for camping I would think there is a 6 cup silicone muffin tin if you only want a few muffins. My uses are mostly for power outages and I'd like to cook extra potatoes and breads to last a few meals for two people. There is a taller 3 quart size aluminum pan for larger groups too.

    very cool, two products that work together so well. this would be a great setup for a homesteader or a nomad in an RV or a van, something with a little extra storage space or storage container on top of the vehicle.

    I’ve got a Colman camp oven. It folds flat for transporting. Me and my grandson use it all the time for making Little frozen pizzas. Lol. We use it on top of a gas stove also. I’m sure we could get creative and make that one your using work also. I always enjoy your videos. Take care.

    Sorry for the hiatus, Iridium...but it is great to be back watching your videos.
    This oven is a great idea, and I have always wondered why I have never seen anything like this offered before. We all know how to cover a pot and put whatever you are cooking into a regular stove...so why not this way also? Thank you for the info!!

    This sounds pretty interesting.
    Might have to pick one of these up.
    A cast iron Dutch oven works decently, but it is only suitable for home use, but it's definitely not "lightweight".
    Alternatively, you can bake by placing a tray and trivet inside your bushpot.
    If you have a small one like a Stanley 2 cup or another small, all-metal backpacking pot, you can lay it on its side with the lid on and bake that way.
    Not gonna get a huge amount of food that way, but it's better than nothing.
    To make a tray, you can cut down a small baking sheet or bread pan using a saw or dremel so that it'll fit your pot. Added perk: you can use the scrap metal you cut off the tray/pan for your trivet.
    Alternatively, you can use rocks instead of a trivet, if that's more your thing.

      Yeah but cast iron has the added benefit of providing our food with iron

      You can get a Camp Dutch Oven, for use outdoors. And if you know how to use it, you can cook anything you normally would, in your home oven! Lodge has been making them for 200 years now.

    I have been on the fence for buying this for some time. Three things are holding me back. First is cost for what it is. Second is that the shape limits what I can bake. Third, I am not sure about using it over a wood stove. Smoke and flame coming up the center sounds like it won't work well. Your thoughts?

    • @Iridium242
      @Iridium242  2 года назад

      They Say it will work but it is worth a try, I would suspect whatever you make (unless you keep it far away from the smoke) would end up tasting like smoke and soot. Maybe over coals without much smoke or fire?

    • @marzsit9833
      @marzsit9833 2 года назад +1

      the omnia requires very little heat, the problem with a wood burner is that it is not controllable so that would be the biggest issue.

    Have you tried the Omnia oven with your SVEA 123R. Since you need to run the stove on low I’m guessing it shouldn’t overheat the fuel tank. I think you would have to keep the flame blue, might get a strange fuel taste if the flame goes yellow.

  • @KlassiclyRevampT
    @KlassiclyRevampT 2 года назад +2

    Cool concept but the price is redundant I think for what the product is. For $70 someoe can make many of these with using just bunt pans and stove burner covers, and most any aluminum lid I'd think.

    • @marzsit9833
      @marzsit9833 2 года назад +3

      possibly, but the base plate on the omnia does serve a very critical purpose. it's stainless steel so it doesn't conduct heat very easily for a reason, as the aluminum baking pan only rests on the very outer edge of the base plate. this helps prevent the bottom from burning, if you were to use a bundt pan you would have to come up with a way to suspend it so the bottom of the pan is not in contact with the heat source.

    • @KlassiclyRevampT
      @KlassiclyRevampT 2 года назад +1

      @@marzsit9833 That's why I suggested an electric stove burner cover/spilage protector to place the bunt pan on top of, as it's the same shape and has a hole in its center.

  • @chrissewell1608
    @chrissewell1608 2 года назад +1

    Why didn't you make a bundt cake? Dah!...
    So you could probably make one of these, with a bundt pan, a skillet, and a wire trivet!

    This is a new version of an Optimus product from ‘back in the day.’ I’ve added the wire rack and the thermometer to mine. Silicone didn’t exist when the original one was sold. Interesting that the silicone liner is one of the most popular accessories.

    • @marzsit9833
      @marzsit9833 2 года назад +1

      yes, my scoutmaster had one. i remember the optimus oven was blue instead of red and was maybe 1 inch smaller in diameter, but was otherwise identical in design. oddly, the price of today's omnia is about the same as what the optimus oven sold for back in the 1970's..
