completely agree on the clutch, I have been driving a standard for years but it took me like 6 weeks to figure this thing out. I have 2004 roadster, my mechanical said they only thing I needed to do with it was to drive it. I got a good one, it feels so solid driving.

Got my 2009 hr and love it but be prepared for everybody asking you what type of car is that. Oh and don’t clean the navigation with ANYTYPE of cleaner because I have to replace mine
I have a 08 HR Grand Touring comes with all the whistles and 6spd power love it til this day
Couldn't agree more. Wish I bought an HR, but they were several grand more when I was on the market several years ago. Most HR's with bolt-on's and a tune will put down around 290-300 whp on a dynojet dyno
I absolutely adore my 07 HR GT...the day my folks decide to sell me their C5 I'll buy it for sentimental reasons...my Z is a better drivers car, both being stock. Adding power is the obvious easy point for the Vette over the Z. Aside from that, my Z has better brakes (Brembo's are awesome), better steering, better shifter, and better seats. I do love how much easier it is to add horsepower to anything with an LS based engine...and pop up headlights are so cool.

very helpful i was thinking of a good fun daily to have while i restore my 260z so i was considering either a 350 or second version 300zx i love the interior of the 300zx its kind of like a left hand drive r32 gtr interior
Both great cars, the Z32s are real cool but don't have the best reliability

-2006 revups came with the CD009 with a external slave which is easier to replace
-also the noise in neutral isn’t the throw out bearing. your throw out bearing is under load with the clutch out. it’s the dual mass flywheel.

I had a lightweight flywheel in my g35 (didn't have the dual mass cuz it was way more expensive to buy) and I still had that same sound 🤷
The only way I got rid of the chatter was with a "quiet disk" option clutch

Prices for hr manual transmission are up there 10-15k de 5-7k in Houston. low miles demand a higher price tag. 350z is the new 240sx.
My DE 350z has been tracked several times and never had an "oil cooler" problem.
I’m buying a 2008 hr this weekend and your video has really made me want it even more! I have the gt version is that good? It has sat nav and cruise control
Glad to have helped ! Don't forget to sub ;) and yes I have the GT as well. It gives u the leather and staggered rays wheels with the small spoiler at the back. Also adds the cruise control and Bluetooth with Volume dials on the wheel.

I my HR not even a milimeter of oil was burned through 4k miles. In my old DE it would go through 1,5 quarts of oil in this interval.
Just picked one up cheap Z at auction, 2008 HR with 70K miles, some fancy exhaust and 19 inch forged rims make this thing growl. Only problem front tires seem to bottom out ( hit inside top of fender apron) so not sure what to do about that maybe stiffer coil overs ? thinking of wrapping it green chrome haha
Could be that the wheel is too big. Check the wheel and tire size.
Love my HR. Bought one a couple months back for about 13.5k (AUD) with 100KM on it, absolute smacking deal. Mistake I did was take the throttle bodies off and touch them - DONT do that. Costed me 1.9k for 2 brand new ones from Japan and the tuning from there on... rip

Im new to the car community and this is the car that im lookin gat getting in about a year. can anyone tell me which year or model od the 350z is best for modifications. I want to do some things like put in a turbo, plenum spacer, cat back etc...
HR is the way to go (2007-2008). More power, more reliability (generally speaking) and just the better option overall.
Good stuff. Are you running those lowering springs on the stock suspension? How much of a difference did they make with body roll?
Yes everything else is stock minus the camber arms. It feels a bit more planted when taking turns !
@@Izzys_Autos might as well ask, but what kind of wear and tear will this cause in components being that the balance is being thrown off.
@@johnnyperez3051 it's not as bad as coilovers. I had some on an older car of mine and it definitely messes up the geometry of other suspension components like control arms, axels, etc .
Is 96k miles too high for 2007 HR manual car? It has a full service history and no expense spared by its current owner.
I got my DE for 5700, the only reason I didn't go HR. The closest HR for me was 9k. I'm going to do intake work
just bought an 08 HR for $19k .......some do not understand though this is how things are here in NYC. its a gem the 350 i just bought...low miles one owner all stock clean carfax i love this thing. I used to have a 2006 G35 6MT when it came out new i did a 3 year lease

The gallery gaskets are really bad for going out on hrs

when accellerating, is it normal to hear a pinging sound? it sounds like it is fuel related but someone i know said the engine just makes that noise
A pinging sound? Where is it coming from? I have never experienced that before.
Very nice video, I do actually think that the 03-04 350z have 2 more lb-ft of torque more than the HR's not that it will make a huge difference. Also about the sensors, I've heard the ECU on the HR tends to not really react well to small mods which leads to all the day lights coming on. I also think the doors auto close because they are so heavy, and leaving them open for long periods of time can damage the hinges.
The z isn't a superfast car it's fun but not superfast a golf r with dsg gear box rev up tune or ford RS will run rings around a standard z as its NA. But the golf or RS won't be any where near as much fun. there's a big difference in the way the hr power is delivered. I was lucky to drive both back to back a de and a hr.
You never hear a HRA owner saying they want a DE or Rev up, but you always here DE or Rev up owners wanting a HR.
Is the HR worth extra money? well here in the UK there's only 3-4k difference between de and hr so I would say yes. But z cars arnt popular over here i can go months with out seeing one. 370 even less but over the usa they hold there value.
The way to look at it is
DE good for modding excepts bolt easily. loads of aftermarket parts that are cheap Bad part full bolt ons you will be on standard HR power.
DE rev up. Don't bother
HR straight out of the box want to keep your car stock fine still bad ass bad part - rubbish to except mods check engine light on for anything. Also more expensive to fix not alot of aftermarket parts compared to the DE models the HR is actually more ln common with the 370z engine wise. All are super fun I would have de z over a golf r or Ford RS yes no where near as fast but way more fun don't have a stupid farty exhuast.
The standard for measuring power was changed by Nissan between the RevUp and HR generations. The HR makes more torque than all other previous VQ35's.
Theirs a adjustable clutch pedal assembly alot of Z owners get but, I forgot what it was called but, i got two tickets back to back so, no new car parts for me🙃

If you’re lucky enough you can find clean ones for under 8k. I got mine for 10k tho. 97k miles, 08, and the last owner took care of it very well.
Jk41 is the trans. Cd009 was a de thing

Yep, my left shin almost always is bruised, pisses me off everytime, i thought the hinge was wearing out or something, that's why it always would slam on my leg, also when i go through the car wash, a decent amount of water leaks through the top of the window, so i always keep a rag on my lap to dry the inside when the wash sprays on each side of the windows. Plus my ABS and Brake light sensor wont go off. Just little quirks i thought was just my car, but am finding out it's pretty common on these cars.

So, since you know everything about these cars, or anyone who reads this and knows, i have an 04 350 Z, and I've always put 93 premium unleaded Gas in my car, because on the gas tank it says, use Only premium unleaded gas. I was watching a video the other day of this suped up 350 Z and he was getting gas, and he pressed the 87 regular unleaded gas. I know Premium gas will give your car better performance and all that, but i don't race my car or drive it hard or anything so do you really need to put 93 premium gas in it, or will it be fine if you use 87 regular? I don't want to mess my car up by using regular, but gas is like $5.00 a gallon where i live, and if regular won't hurt it, i'd rather do that.
Let’s put it this way, I have an Audi now and I once put Costco “91” gas in it and it threw a engine code - it didn’t like the gas that was in it so now I ONLY put shell 91. Cars are tuned to use specific gas for performance reasons but also for optimal efficiency as well. It’s an older 350 so at this point I wouldn’t put 93 but I’d still recommend 91.
350 is tuned for 91 up just use 93 it will burn slowrr 87 will will burn faster so in reality your nit saving money you will be getting 87 more

G'day from Australia, well you commented about the Bose in your Zed 33. I'll have to disagree, my 08 z33 has magnificent bass reasonable treble and good mid-range. I've heard this from other people and I wonder why they make this comment. Perhaps their Bose was made on a payday?.

Leg wise u should be fine. You might run into issues on head room but given that the roof curves you might actually get away with it. But yeah might be a bit tight

I test drove a 370z convertible with power seats yesterday and was shocked that I didn’t have enough legroom. I’m 6 foot tall. Does anyone know if that would be an issue with all power seats versions or was the problem that it was the convertible version?
What are common 350z hr model problems
Not many tbh. Definitely overheating issues if your tracking it (mentioned in the video with solution). But tbh I can't think of many more things. It's a really solid engine

All depends on how the car is overall. What package is it? HR's are definitely the better choice so the 2008 is a good start !

Clutch is really rubbish easily solvable by thr RJM clutch PEDAL around £300 they have a internal slave cylinder. It's a huge pain they have to drop the transmission expensive job. But oil gallery gasket 2007-2008 is a common issue and expect to pay about almost £1500 to fix hr doesnt have the DE rev up oil issue as it has a taller block hense. the hood bulge its 80% changed from the DE and rev up models but all are brilliant fun cars if you can afford go hr if not de NOT the DE rev up that's the oil burning model
Found an 07 hr with 24,000 for only 8000$ should I be worried he has it so low priced? Or that he's willing to negotiate for so low of a price I'm switching from subaru to Nissan I have no clue about nissan lol
That’s stupid low mileage. But that’s quite cheap tbh. I’d make sure you take a good look at it and check out it’s history. It should be going for a lot more.

Last I check is the Rev Up motor with the worst oil consumption.. the HR practically is a major improvement over the DE & RevUp engines

@@johnmay959 before I had 17x9.5 with 18 offset. That gives a bit of poke. Not I'm running 18x9.5 in the rear with 38 offset and a 15 mil spacer. It doesn't poke in the rear and kind of helps with rubbing issues

Cd009 its not in the HR please dont give out wrong information people are out here expending money. Your transmission its called JK41A it has totally different design, it uses a internal concentric slave and the syncros for 5th and 6th are steel and not brass which give you heavy vibrations and even sometimes grinding when over 650whp. Also you should be careful when dumping the clutch since its a concentric internal slave you will break the factory plastic and get stuck in gear. The CD009 was a unicorn from Nissan currently its been swap on all moderns 2Jz swaps because it can take 1000whp with easy the JK41A I wouldn't run it over 600whp. Good enough for FBO.
Oops good to know. A Nissan tech said I had a CD009 so I believed him.
JK 6 speeds are used behind VQ37's and MY08+ G's. The HR 350Z had a CD009.
It is also not a totally different design. They are almost identical.
@@Jaredscott89 no hr has a cd009, I invite you to go under your vehicle if you have one z33 and check for yourself or just download a maintenance manual for 07-08 they are not similar either. They have different building materials and design

HR is a JK41B, internal concentric slave cylinder, the internals are essentially the same same as a CD009 it’s just the HR sits higher and has the internal slave which is what confuses but overall they’re almost identical

DE G35 is not the same as a 350z (DE)... They sure have the same engine but the G35 is a Boat
Lol what? They literally weigh the same. It’s all the same platform dawg. In fact on the G37, the sedan is lighter than the coupe because of how long the doors are on the coupe so they had to use extra reinforcement. The first gen G35 coupe and 350Z are within a couple hundred pounds of each other.

But 200 pounds is the difference between having a passenger and not. You wouldn’t consider a car light but then consider it a “boat” just because a slender six foot fella sat inside it would you?
