Parlamentet is a satirical panel gameshow. I definetly recommend checking it out! Björn is Hillarious and has always been my favourite in the show.

13:37 is big thing among gamers who have been around for awhile :D I'd say 30+. We would always randomly look at our phones and if it was 13:37 everyone would yell out "ELIIIIITE". 1337 looks the same as "LEET".

it was also a part of young youth culture up to 2013 maybe even 14 or so, went to a lot of football cups for kids and school cups where many schools in the county came to play, all the kids wrote 1337 on their shirts and that was from when i played til i stoped being a referee for the event so ´quite a while. Kinda funny

@@frejlinden407 I'd say even earlier. As I recall it, those words became popularised in the era around when wow had come out, which was I think in 2004. I remember these words being peaking in the mid to late 00's anyway. They might've stuck around a bit longer in some communities, but not nearly as prevalent.

I would say there's a huge proportion of jokes in Parlamentet that are references to politicians, celebrities and dialects that flies over your head if you're non-swedish.

The parlament is a panel gameshow in Sweden and he made jokes about WoW there and people who's playing it got mad and said he don't know anything about it and stuff like that so he made this video, with some more information to get it more correct and his brother who is a gamer was helping him out to get it all right. Very smart and very funny. That's also why he jokes about himself, saying it was not fun when he was joking about it, and corrected himself the way they did.

Leet (sometimes written as "1337" or "l33t"), also known as eleet or leet-speak, is another alphabet for the English language that is used mostly on the internet. It uses various combinations of ASCII characters to replace Latinate letters

1337 has been a thing since at least the 90s. Every gamer in the 90s would have known what 1337 stood for. Every kids with a calculator should have known 1337 in the 90s. It was our thing to play with calculators before smart phones.

I think that spelling, Olaf, is more common in Norway. Here in Sweden it's usually spelled Olof, sometimes Olov. It's sometimes combined with other names, the most common are probably Lars-Olof, Per-Olof and maybe Bengt-Olof.
It's also common as a part of a last name, Olofsson. I guess the Norwegian version would be Olafsen, I'm not sure if they use one or two s, maybe Olafssen?

yes, parlamentet is really funny. but as many others have said, a lot of the jokes might be very heavily dependent on you being familiar with sweden or specific colture events at the time. but there is a lot that also isn't heavily dependent at all. so I guess you're just gonna have to buy the pig whiles it's still in the bag ;)

  • @Meatrose

Some context for this clip: in the show "Parlamentet" Björn performed a segment where he made fun of nerdy WoW-players taking the game far too seriously by pretending to be one. After the episode aired actual WoW nerds gave him crap online for not using the accurate nerd lingo and even for referencing a raid that was no longer current content. This was his response to their criticism, turning them into the butt end of the joke once again for taking the game far too seriously but this time with far better accuracy. Him "taking it so seriously" in the sketch was definitely a conscious decision and meant as ridicule.
As for the 1337 thing it had been a huge thing in geek circles (particularly online gaming and hacking) for many years at the time this segment was recorded. It was famous "Leet (elite) speak" where you replace letters with numbers or special characters that resemble said letters. "1337 5P34K" means "leet speak" since 1 is used for either l (lowercase L) or I (uppercase i), 3=E, 7=T, 5=S and 4=A). This blew up with the original Counter-Strike where "L33T KR3W" (referring to the playable terrorist faction "Leet Crew" or "1337 Crew") was spray-painted on bombsite A on the popular map de_dust2. Some Counter-Strike kids were obsessed with being the one to point out (to gamer friends) that the time was "leet o' clock" at 13:37 (1:37 pm). I think that's enough nerd culture history for today. 😅

You don't need to turn it around. If you turn it and it is LEEt, you dont turn it and it is lEET (starting with a small L). Leet-speak is nothing about turning upside down.

1337 - eliiiit, it’s always been a thing I guess the same way 8008 was a thing but he REALLY made it a fucking thing, after this sketch you’d hear people left right and center saying it and it was a thing for a minute. This is how much of a thing he made it
This sketch came out like 15 years ago, back then I was an emo 8th grader who hated and passionately refused everything mainstream or popular or w/e…
Mate, I’ve never been a gamer but that managed to become so ingrained in me that still to this day whenever I see 1337 anywhere I still go eliiit out of reflex, and if I look at a clock at 1338 I legit for no fucking reason get disappointed that I missed by only a minute.
So yeah I guess it’s a thing lol
