There are so many ways to make builds in this game. On my Warrior I currently do a shield bash / shield toss tank build, which stacks defense and uses the Spectral Bulwark ability to add +50% defense. The main source of damage is the Best Defense passive on the Champion specialization to add 50% of your total defense to your shield damage which applies to shield toss and shield bashes. I combine this with very high stagger, eliminate bonuses and the helmet that makes your damage scale with your rage. At the moment I mostly ignore detonations and afflictions but might look into this - especially as Champion has a lot of fire/burn stuff and I could use the Endless Fire passive to turn Deadly Ground and Whirlwind into fire skills.

There’s another perk that allows it to always crit as long as the enemy is bleeding but if you don’t want that perk you can also apply burn and it’ll guarantee a crit as well
Necrotic damage is not the same as necrosis damage. Necrosis damage is an affliction damage and is increased by Necrosis damage and Affliction damage. Necrotic damage is the instance necrotic damage deals damage, and is increased by Necrotic damage and Ability damage, as well as Weapon damage if your weapons Base damage is considered Necrotic. Precious Decay does not increase the damage of the affliction, only the instant damage target receives from necrotic weapons and abilities. To increase the damage of the dot you need Necrosis damage increase, such as the Necrotic Jade ring. The in game explanation is not great.

If you want to try an affliction build, you should give a look at warrior. Deadly Ground + Salt in the Wound will max stacks on any affliction on the target. You get Necrosis from it too, Bleeding from a shield toss (Let it Linger from the Reaper specialization), Burning from one of multiple abilities and there are multiple ways to get Chilled/Shocked, my prefered being the chilled belt combined with the overflow rune (which applies potion effect on activation) and a ring enchant to apply shocked on crit since chilled is the crit requirement for Deadly Ground. Neve works too. Make your character a Mourn Watcher and tada you have 4-6 stacks of every affliction with very little effort required. Doesn't require much in the way of gear either.
For warrior, it's a one handed axe that reduces defense by 5 permanently for each hit and deals increased damage if it reaches 0. For mage, it's a dagger that removes all necrosis/bleeding stacks on the target when hit with a charged attack and heals you. Nowhere as good.
For mage it’s a blade that heals you whenever you deal charged damage to a bleeding target. Pretty worthless other than its unnaturally high physical damage

Rest of the points goes pretty much into any talent that increases damage against Debuffed enemies or increases the size of Area attacks and so on... That means I have 100 mana total for one spell, the other two are DC spells but with so many projectiles each attack refreshes (7)x2,5 second of cooldown on my skills which only have 40 sec cooldown (Greater Authority - Both Frost nova and Dark Squal are control)
@m3divh I made a similar observation. Normal simple weapon hits deal way more damage in total that damage over time (like this meme bleed build) or abilities. I've played a shield toss warrior and could easily deal 5-10k damage (per target hit by toss) at a similar level than this video.
