As a kid watching the first Iron Man, it was Tony Stark's original R8 that made me fall in love with cars, and the R8 has been arguably my favorite car ever since, through the couple generations. The next Audi supercar will be a technological masterpiece and faster than ever before, but all that speed can't replace the sound of a V10 and the child-like grin that goes with it. So long to an icon, this GT version is the perfect send off!
original looks better than new one lol.
So much facts, same reason I fell in love with cars.
@@kalmmonke5037 personal preference
@@kalmmonke5037 L opinion, no common sense
@@shadowkillz9606 2018 looks better than 2019 one, less complex and more harmonies between liens in light and grille. but oldder rear end r8 was more 3 dimensional interesting looking, i wouldnt mind usign that theme a front too.
It's kind of hard to be optimistic when sound plays such a big part of how we perceive speed. Even with hot hatches for example, a good gear shifts with pops and bangs got you feeling like a racer.. taking all of that away is a big loss. Yes you have more outright speed but for us that aren't overly concerned with 0-60 times, it is going to be tough to get excited about new cars.
I have to agree on this one. New electric cars are nice to drive yes but they are little soulless for me and its mostly because of the lack of sound. Its might make driving for me just a way to get from a to b and as a guy who likes driving hurts a lot to admit.

EV driver here who also loves the R8. And all things Audi. I hear you. But like
warm natural sounding vinyl vs digital audio, ICE will live on in the automotive equivalent of independent record stores - track days.
Carpe sparkem.
Frrr even in my mk6 gti or my Freinds w8 Passat
So true...flying in a 767 is nothing compared to driving an American 8, Japanese 6 or NA 5....IF you can hear that exhaust and engine
The last of a dying breed ,we all new that this day would come lets be happy that we got to experience and live with these type of machine and appreciate the moments we are still being able to be behind the wheel of these machines
*Knew
Sadly I'm too poor for that

If loving the N/A R8 V-10 over an EV version is considered being left behind, then I’ll gladly get off the train now and stay here thanks!

Seen a lot of reviews on this monster but THIS is who I want to see driving it! Thanks Rory
good to see at least someone drive it how we all wish we could drive it
Sad to see such a great platform go but R.I.P R8 you will he missed 😮💨😮💨😮💨💔
We have the giant push to EVs with no moves towards upgrading electrical infrastructure. California is already restricting charging times for EVs. I believe this is all politically driven and it’s running us headlong into one of the most predictable quandaries.
I don't know why I kinda feel emotional at the end of the vid. R8 ❤️
Don’t. These will be bubble wrapped in some collector’s garage, waiting to be flipped. Buy the normal R8 RWD and drive the balls off it! 😅
The car that hits the right chord in being a great practical sports car. The iconic design and the symphony of the V10 will be forever etched in our memories. So long R8.
Electric cars are supposed to help the planet , but their batteries definitely create the next trash problem. And sometimes , lithium - ion batteries explode . Electric cars certainly reduce your carbon footprint , but making the lithium - ion batteries could emit 74 % more CO2 than for conventional cars .
It Hurts so hard to hear that this legendary car has come to the end of its life
It's quite sad to see a car like R8 leaving, it was launched IN 2006 it has just become a teen now. It will be missed for sure!
It is sad that we as humankind are going end these magnificent engines one day!
Internal combustion engines are going to be around far longer than the main stream would like you to believe. Love watching electronic vehicles fail miserably, for eg when Toyota announced they would stop with that nonsense. Hopefully the rest would come to their senses
Sad times everything going electric specially sad the R8 is going 😓
And there goes both of my dream cars. The Audi R8 and Lamborghini Aventador (both from top gear) were the reasons why I got into cars. It’s a sad day boys. Let’s appreciate this one. Thanks R8 for the great memories I’ve had seeing you at dealerships and car shows. We shall keep going!!
💯 agreed!! I almost cried when I heard about the Lamborghini Aventador Ultimae being the last hurrah for that iconic engine and car... 😟
@@aswinkumar4452 🥲🥲
@@aswinkumar4452 but Lamborghini V12 isn't going anywhere. The Aventador succesor is on it's way with glorious V12. It's gonna be hybrid, but who cares, at least it still makes noises and it's gonna be even faster. But it's probably the last Lamborghini to use ICE and that's sad.
me too bro😪💔
Dying Naturally Aspirated engines..
Lamborghini, Audi, Porsche..
Let's all appreciate this one last waltz at the beginning of this video.
Well done crew, well bloody done!
And Ferrari, they are keeping the V12 alive.
@@riley4198 true.. One last generation before it goes all to shit
@@riley4198 Same with Porsche regarding the 911 GT3
If people do not buy the upcoming EV “sports/super” cars will manufactures be forced to continue making the REAL vehicles we all love
The ICE might not be dead, Hyundai, Toyota and others are working on a zero emission fuel which could save combustion engines with the need for maybe a slight modification.
End of an era. I was not a huge fan of this gen R8 when it debuted but my owe my did it grow on me. On the road it's stunning. This R8 GT is MEAN and a perfect way to send off this icon.
Audi created a modern classic with the R8. What a car & engine 🙌
Surely has to be a collector's item...🤞🏽👌🏽
Lets hope not. Of they will be bought and stored like many others 😢
@@_Atomic_impact They have sold before release so even if you wanted one they went to audis select group. It's the same with the last TTRS they have 11 to the uk and they again were sold before even being built.
it literally said in the video they are only making 333 so no shit lmao
R8s are not known to be collectors items despite it being limited. So we're safe for now !
Such a great all around car! And still the crappiest shift paddles in the game lol
I'm getting one
That last shot with the sun setting in the background, the angle, everything was perfect!
Best R8 ever
Why car makers makes us emotional every year !!! 😥🥺🥺
for real, these years have been full of goodbyes
The first r8 is still my favourite r8
*Only fifteen coming to the UK this R8 will be an appreciating asset* 👀
That original R8 looked so good. I don't think they ever topped it in terms of design. Latest one has lots of cool elements but they don't really hang together as a cohesive whole. Epic car of course and it barely matters with that V10 in there but it's a bit of a mess styling wise.
In that time audi was at top of automotive design, R8 started the design legacy and every audi from 2008 to 2012 was beyond beautiful.
Hopefully manufacturers create 100% ethanol fuelled cars. Surely it's not the end ☹
Why does it have a Halfords body kit
The original looks better and the annoying gear padel click yawn
1:56 Bit of a correction here - the R8 initially had a V8 engine - later models used the V10.
The Audi R8 And The Lamborghini Aventador Legacies were always a treasure to see.
So over electric being thrown in our face. Can we just enjoy videos without electric cars being mentioned in videos we would otherwise enjoy? Words like, “last” is used a lot.
A lot of us have zero interest in electric vehicles….and the so called environmental-science behind electric cars. I can’t remember when a battery was ever good for the environment until the last few years. An acid packed case. Interesting.
I fucking what’s happening to the car industry, companies are saying “electric is the future boo boo” when actually it’s worse for the environment, I literally won’t be able to live happily with cars that don’t have engines or manual gearboxes.
Beautiful conclusion. I don't know how they will replace the sound and the experience of manual car, but yea, let's see. This R8 is insane
I liked all of it but the conclusion "yes the R8 is dead but I'm hopeful the replacement EV is going to be brilliant", I'm sorry but this is a sad moment, we need to have a minute of silence for what was once beautiful, no EV is going to provide the joy you get from a singing high-cyclinder engine like the Lamborghini derived V10! I wish legislation would target high-volume production cars, leave anything that has a production run under 1000, then surely we can still save the ICE in the north pole and the ICE in the car!
@@The24Gamer EV is only good for torque and straight line performance, that's it.
@@farishanafiah8461 @Sadly a lot of people, who I can assume have never been in a high performance petrol car, see the numbers and declare "Tesla Plaid is far superior than your overpriced supercar", we still seem so focused on 0-60 times, praising the arrival of hyper-torque EVs, not realizing that you lose so much when it comes to noise and agility that getting a sub-3 launch time is just a party trick.
Most aggressive looking r8
Rory is the GOAT
witnessing this history of automotive.....sad.....I must be old....
I am paying $50k over the $253k for one of these here in the US. I don’t do electric cars, so fit me it is now or never. Got an STO and a 2022 Quattro performance Spyder. I guess I really do like the NA V10 LOL
They keep saying it is the last and then they double down years later.
It's been 16 years of me dreaming about owning this car one day. I'm 28 right now and I might not have this opportunity in my life ever. I have its initials in my bedside, office table, phone, laptop, you name it. I might cry a little sometimes.
Thank you for doing this car justice
V10 are race engines , electric motors are for vacuum cleaners
The end of an era for pure naturally arspirated engine powered cars in Europe!
Nothing comes close to 2010 R8
Most beautiful Audi ever made
The R8 will never be topped
I find it weird that Audi ditched Quattro for this R8. Quattro was what helped it have real performance
Fun > Performance
I've had quite a bit seat time in a friends R8 v10. Magnificent machine! High strung N/A engines a truly an art form!
OG R8 had a V8 tho
"Compared to others supercars with V8 and V12"
Mk1 also had a v10
@@AutoTraderTV yeah but that was later
In the first year it only had a V8
EVs are sure to kill people's interest in cars.
I honestly don't understand the point of an electric supercar...I own a b7 RS4 and the best part of it ,is listening to the v8 at 8200rpm.
If sustainable fuels ends up being a thing, it won't be the last we see of this kind of car with this kind of engine. Petrol-heads need to speak up, not just to save the manuals! Certainly the journalists aren't going to do it, with the way they lap up every EV that's thrown in front of them.
These will shoot up in value massively
Magnificent engine but holy shit Audi has totally ruined the look of the r8 .
Looks like it’s crashed through a branch of demon tweaks.
Sad story
R8 v10 naturally aspirated fire 🔥 breathing machine will be missed
The original still looks like something from future, and we are in 2022 folks.
I own a 2014 R8 manual and I’m holding on to it.
I definitely don't want to see supercars going EV. If that's the future, I'm more than happy with the present time.
Rory good as ever. Thank you!
Great review Rory
As always !!

I am sure these will skyrocket in value if not used a lot
I wish they'd gone back to the OG coloring scheme. Looks amazing.
Thats looks incredible. This One even better then The original imo

Car enthusiasts will have to rely on the used market very soon!
They saved the best till last at a price.

It would be nice if they put a 5 cylinder engine in the next R8. Or they could do a new Audi Sport Quattro of course with a 5 cylinder.
Why? The v10 is two of the 5 cylinder engines on a common block
@@dlg78 The V10 cannot continue due to emissions so a 5 cylinder with a 48 volts electric assisted turbo to eliminate turbo lag would be a nice solution. The electric assisted turbo will also help to achieve a better exhaust note because it will not depend has much from the flow of the exhaust gases to move the turbine.
And if they did like Mercedes did with the new C43 AMG they can also use a more powerful starter motor that will also be used to give at least 20 more horsepower and 200 newton meters of torque without adding much weight. That stronger electric starter motor would help the combustion engine at low rpm and so too eliminate turbo lag.
Overall the car would be much lighter. Like you said, its half a V10 and the exhaust note will be similar to it. However a 5 cylinder has a very special exhaust note its similar to a V10 but not quite, it has its own distinctive sound, if they can make the engine spin until 8500rpm it will have a similar sound to the Audi Sport Quattro Group B rally car of the old days.
@@mikaelgaspar9547 Audi are to be discontinuing all engines, even the 5 pot. The v10 being discontinued isn't due to emissions as it has cylinder on demand and runs on 5 cylinders on cruise.
@@dlg78 I didn't knew that.
What's worse, these are all pretty much sold :(
I bet the electric craze will fade away in 2-3 years and Rory will eat his words.

can anyone identify the song at the start? its beautiful
Bro I'm pretty sure the R8 started off the back of the V8 shared in the RS4 which was an upgraded version of the BBK 4.2.. they also came in manual.. then after the following gen came with a V10 sporting an auto box
It was the same gen. Later, but still mk1
It never seizes to amaze me how good the original, very first gen R8 looks even now, 20 years later. In a time when most cars look like melted plastic, it still manages to look properly futuristic. It's probably the only production car ever made, which won't look out of place even in the year 2053. Audi really hit the nail on the head there and hit the ground running with it. Absolutely astonishing. I've always said that if one day i was offered a choice to have any car ever made, i'd probably go for a Ferrari F355 Berlinetta or a Jaguar XJ 220, but now i'm certain - it will be a 2008 Audi R8 5.2L V10 with a manual gearbox. That was the peak of car evolution. It's all been down ever since.
Original design looks much better
I am going to buy a V10 performance soon.
Truly epic... I recently bought a V6 S5, and I am not trading it in for nothing... Combustion Engines Forever!!!
Soo much love for this car, such a legend. Audi main rivals never come close to this masterpiece!
The front grille on this car makes ZERO sense. The engine is in the back. Look at the Huracan-- same car, no front grille.
The Huracan does have a front grille. It's just a different shape.
V10 had an awesome run. Memories will remain for a very long time :)
The first ones were V8s hence R8 they went to V10s later on.
I’ll always feel like they could’ve done more with this send off… the performance parts with rwd seems a bit lazy…
The thing is they are partner with lambo and Porsche, I don’t think they are allowed to make one too good
Audi should show us their hybrid system from what they've done in Dakar for the finale for the combustion engine like ferrari did with current gtb
Come on Rory, all skids and no smoke💨, how come?😂😂
Wet track
@@AutoTraderTV Ok, makes perfect sense. I really enjoy your videos, keep them coming 🙌🏾
