That is so true. The price difference between R8 and Lambo is huge (not as shown in this video). R8 is only 2/3 of the price of Lambo but gives you almost everything, including the comfort of easily accessible Audi service.

Amazing review, very well put together and addresses many of the things we take into consideration when we provide software for these engines, there are a few bits of information or a follow up video I could contribute to if wanted, for example, the ecu on the R8 (which we provide calibrations for) has certain limitations that don't allow it to output the same exact numbers as the other versions using this engine even in NA form, this can be delimited and then further tuned for a bit of a higher output, also, the standing rev limiter, pedal response as well as a few other adjustments that even only through software would greatly improve the driving experience. Obviously when you start adding hardware anything would be possible, twinturbos, superchargers, etc. but only a software upgrade on the ECU and TCU would arguably make it a quite different experience.
Theres some corrections worth noting here... First Audi owns/controls Lamborghini, secondly the Huracan/Gallardo are based on the R8 which came first. The Huracan is a hardcore/extreme R8, its a disservice to the R8 to call it a budget Huracan when the reality is that the Huracan is overpriced R8. The subtleties may miss many but its truly worth noting, to the Lambos credit its a bit lighter but its quite a bit more uncomfortable as well.

@@balajiarun7434, the price difference is nuts considering how much they share with one another. For the money that you spend on a fully loaded Huracan (which is finicky as a thirsty cat), you can get a 911 Turbo S (which is bulletproof) for the weekend and a Lexus LC 500 (which is nuke proof) as a daily. Rory - always liked you in top gear and now like you more in these reviews. Thanks, let me share my 2 cents. I think the whole video is meant to prove that R8 is a softer Lambo Huracan which is correct but there is more to R8 which wasn't fully shown here. 1) This UK version of 2022 R8 Performance Quattro is missing so many things including more aggressive carbon exterior and most importantly Sport Exhaust (which are standard in US/Canada) 2) UK versions did screw things up by adding particle filter, soft limit etc. 3) You probably didn't push the car enough, just to show how different this is from Huracan. 4) The cost difference between R8 and Huracan is not shown properly. In US, the RWD R8 (562 HP) starts at $148K and a fully loaded Quattro R8 (610 HP) can go up to $220K. Huracan RWD (602 HP) starts at $270K and a loaded Huracan AWD easily will hit $350K. So the price difference is huge. 5) About the manual mode, it is very simple. You just push the gear knob to right (in left side driving) and you will be in manual mode. You are right, R8 is a car which is benign in comfort mode (which Hurcan doesn't have) but can go beast put in Dynamic or Race mode. With sport exhaust, R8 performance Quattro makes awesome sound with pops and crackles. How do I know? I have a 2020 R8 V10 Performance Quattro (which has no soft limit, no particle filter etc). I also liked when you said, R8 is a thinking man's Lambo! Anyways, thanks for the great content and I am a huge fan of you!
Personally I might have a biased opinion since I have a huracan at the moment, but I didn’t like the R8 on the track when compared to the Huracan in terms of gear ratios and also I found controlling it slightly difficult. But again if you have to compare which one is better in terms of a daily and usability stand point it’ll be the R8 due to its ample availability of tech and smoother design language making it easier to drive around.
Lambo is the diva actress of the house who just wants to be flashy, the Audi is the understated elegant brother who is the aerospace engineer of the house.
The price of £168k is for the RWD Huracan not the Equivalent LP640-4 model. That starts at about £190k..It's so hard to flick the Gear selector across the gate. That's like saying it's hard to use the indicator stalk.😂😂
I have always thought the proportions of the R8 never quite worked. And the infamous side blade was a band-aid attempting to deal with those awkward proportions. Great that Audi used the synergies of buying Lambo to build it though. But the car was styled over set hard points and it shows, imo.
The R8 is, and never will be objectively better than the Huracan, but it is still one one the greatest super cars EVER MADE!!! Change my mind!😃😊 I vividly remember watching Moose, and his R8 build, such a masterpiece!
I agree you that the R8 is a supercar in the whole extension of the word. But there is something about Lambos that no other car has: the look and the sound. Nothing looks and sounds like a Lambo! What I have to disagree with you is "the R8 is a thinking man's Lamborghini". So far, I haven't seen someone who sees another man driving a Lambo and thinks: "Look! There goes an idiot who bought a Lambo!". It's just a matter of tastes and being able to afford it, or not. Greetings from Mexico City! Blessings always!

Another great review Rory!
The price of £168k is for the RWD Huracan not the Equivalent LP640-4 model. That starts at about £190k..It's so hard to flick the Gear selector across the gate. That's like saying it's hard to use the indicator stalk.😂😂
I'd rather have an r8 v10 plus over a huracan Evo. I even prefer the way it looks.
We need a Rory X Matt from Carwow collab!
I just recently bought mine ☺️
Not a budget lambo though.. It's completely different use cases for each car (only one that overlaps is a hell lot of fun! :D )
this is the most iconic supercar 😍😍😍😍
Put some subtle stripes on the bonnet and it could really improve the look of the front end.
Audi ABSOLUTELY 💯 KING'S
Having owned both there is no doubt the Lambo is a better car . However the R8 is a close second .
I love your video reviews. Great work 👏 👍
This has been my dream car ever since the first gen came out.
Autotrader / Rory are releasing content that other channels can only dream of.
I made a cup of nespresso and was wondering what am I missing until I got notified that Rory the king is BACK!!!
I have always thought the proportions of the R8 never quite worked. And the infamous side blade was a band-aid attempting to deal with those awkward proportions. Great that Audi used the synergies of buying Lambo to build it though. But the car was styled over set hard points and it shows, imo.
I agree mate, love the R8, but personally I'd have the pre face lift model without the moustache.
Ahh yes the good ol R8 sadly won't be refreshed ever again but will live in my heart forever
The new one will be much better
it is exactly the same V 10 tfsi engine that and also fit on Audi RS 6
I think it looks incredible
It's always a pleasure watching your reviews. 🎉
7:55 oh yeah i could really see that throttle response
Another great review Rory. Great job!
I wonder if value will go up once they stop making them
The editor did a good job the video it self looks amazing who ever did it good job.
The R8 is, and never will be objectively better than the Huracan, but it is still one one the greatest super cars EVER MADE!!! Change my mind!😃😊 I vividly remember watching Moose, and his R8 build, such a masterpiece!
I was on r8 Spyder Tour. Great car. Special in Alps.
That’s it I’m getting both!
Can’t believe they are stopping production on the R8 such an iconic and good looking car
My friend’s 2.5 yr experience: But first, I’m 6’4” 195cm, my two butt cheeks touch the bottom seat and not the rest of my legs. I cannot angle the front of the seat up much and the seat does not extend forward. ///// Other than that, it’s an incredible car, handles the bumps well, sounds unbelievable, and one of the best looking cars on the road, and my friend drives it half of the week to work, 1.5 hrs/day and it has been bulletproof reliable.
That bgm at end is 🔥🔥🔥♥️
I prefer the looks of the spider. The rearend changes ever so slightly But for the better imho
