Lot of points here Chuck but the bottom line for me is how easy is it to fix. If something in the drive by wire fails it is much harder for the average guy to fix. If broken throttle cable occurs its pretty simple to diagnose. If the cruise control unit fails the car can still be driven. If the sensors or motor fail your stuck. Don't get me wrong Im all for advances in cars but I also live by the acronym k.I.S.S. it. Keep it simple stupid. 30 years ago a dome light was controlled by a switch in a door it went on it went off and easy to diag if some thing went wrong. Fast forward we need to have a computer module to dim lights off as we leave the car why? when that module goes out it is also tied into other systems like windows ect. You wind up replacing a computer module which cost a hell of a lot more than a simple switch. An example is my 2019 dodge van the horn button is not controlling the horn it sends input to a chassis module why? you still need a horn button and I hate that I can't give a quick rap on the horn button to alert some one the light is green and wake up and go. It requires I hold the button down for a period and sound like I'm being an ass about it. Long winded I know but that's my take on electronics to control simple functions is stupid and just a money maker for the dealer to service.
Right on Mr. E, Thanks for stopping by. You don't need to convince me, I'm all on board the stupid simple train. Lol Btw, RUclips doesn't charge extra for paragraphs, hit the enter key once in a while. Lol -Chuck

@@PanzerPlatform You're a good professor, Chuck, and Kuson2's comment reflects my impressions too. BTW since you drive with both systems do you have a preference for one or the other, not considering the vehicles but only your foot controlling the cable or the computer monitoring through a sensor ?

A one inch taller tire will reduce your final gear ratio in the differential .25 so if your rear gear ⚙ is 3:30 to 1 with the taller tire your final gear ratio would be 3:05 to 1 at the tire which would account for the 1mpg increase or better fuel economy. Also the electronic throttle says no no no when you are hoarsing around. Less warranty claims for abuse. Good stuff chuck
@@PanzerPlatform my mustang has all the same components as the panther platform. I have been looking for a panther. For it to be a long term thing it needs to be console shift tack and gauges with a good color .
I'm not sure but I think the Crown Vic LX Sport with the console shifter, and the Grand Marquis HPP (handling performance package) with console shifter were only made 2004 and older. And the instrument cluster with tach did not start until 2006. But there's a guy on here (brian's garage) that does some pretty neat custom gauge mods to put the newer cluster in older models for the tach. -Chuck

$15 for a new throttle cable or at least a $100 for an aftermarket electric TB or $200-$300 for a Motorcraft one. My 2006 is already on it's third electronic TB at 150K. 👎🏻 That's no bueno for me. I only had to replace one throttle cable on all of my past cars over the last 40 years.
