I live in California and love to garden and create different “rooms” or “spaces” in my yards, so I just love your videos! Just found your channel recently. I find I need to have the transcripts on so I can be sure to understand you, lol - just like when I’m watching my favorite Brit shows on TV. 😊
Haha Nina. That's such a lovely comment. It made me smile. I'm from 'up north' in the UK so my accent is a little different 🙂 thanks for watching. Mark
I wish you all the best with this ambitious and most pleasing project. (A word of warning about the Aloe polyphylla: It is extremely difficult to grow in cultivation! It occurs naturally in Lesotho - in fact, it is their national flower - but virtually all attempts to grow it elsewhere fails within a few years.) It is a pity, because it can withstand snow!
You've done a great job Mark. The bed looks really good. The bifasicular color is bulletproof and will be worth you buying (I have 3 outdoors up in Newcastle). Don't waste your money on aloe polyphilla (I did and lost one) unless you're prepared to overwinter it elsewhere undercover. You will need to cover your agave americana variagata. If you do it stands a decent chance of doing well (I have one outdoors for 5 years up here in Newcastle). Good luck Mark for the winter. You've done a great job with the gravel to try to improve drainage but I worry about your normal soil just underneath. Raised beds are expensive and a hassle but your chances of success increase substantially👍
thanks for these extra tips and information. only about 10 inches below the surface it is pure sand, very well drained. the plants are positioned proud of the surface so I am hopeful. I will do some protection later in the year. thanks again. mark
Looks brilliant, but I'm wondering will the succulents be OK being planted in regular earth? Or have you already dug the area deeper and backfilled with sandy soil?
Hi Karl. I think it's a really fair point and valid. A couple of weeks ago I did a video (planting the yucca) where I dug down just about a foot and it's pure sand. So the soil is definitely Sandy and well drained. So fingers crossed they will be ok.
Beautiful! 👌 I am trying to give a Mediterranean look to my garden here in the UK too. I am Spanish and I want it to remind me of home. 😊 I like the colour of your gravel. I am thinking in buying golden gavel 10mm. Can I ask which one did you buy? Thanks! ¡Gracias!
Beautiful ❤

hi ann. it was a bit backbreaking that - but well worth it. mark
Looks great think the slab pa5h would look better if you bury them more into the gravel
I agree and I will do this. thank you
