Love the Halloween display mark. Thanks for the tips on protection, I built a lean to hoop house from pallets and water hose and my tender plants will go in there.

Mark the Cordyline berries can be sown as they are or you can wait until January then squash them to release the black seeds inside, there will likely be 2 to 3 seeds per berry. Some sow direct to prepped soil others soak seeds for 15 mins prior to sowing. Germination takes 4- 6 weeks . They like humus rich soil with good drainage and kept at 18- 22c .

If its any consolation, I had a 9cm pot yucca rostrata and aloe striatula both survive completely unprotected last winter (St Helens) about 45-60 mins away from you. I also had a couple of different opuntia species survive unprotected too just in my massive gritty pot. My other small column cactus are going to go into it next year and left to their own devices but in a shed just for this winter.
Im going to leave my "low maintenance hanging basket" experiment (an agave americana pup) out with no protection and see what happens to that. My theory is that its against the wall of the house and will drain really freely being a hanging basket and gritty mix.

Since it's Halloween does anything go bump in the night in that old magnificent house

No, but there are tales of the shadow of a small black dog walking through the wall where a door used be...

The bamboo has really filled out and provided the wind break you wanted. Overwatering in the garage…….. yours has windows mine is a typical one(?) with no windows but attached to the house so do I use the garage or the shed which gas a window but is standalone? 🌴🌴🌴

Hi Daphne. The bamboo has really impressed me 😊 I do have windows. I think a shed without windows may just about be ok. But you can also get those low cost plant lights if you are concerned. Mark
