I have had good success with overwintering perennials in an empty raised bed packed with shredded leaves (PA zone 6). Thank you for all the tips. I always learn something new by watching your channel.

A variation on insulating the bottom of plastic pots...I have a lot of spare plastic pots: this year I'm experimenting with putting 3 same size pots inside each other and then putting my potted plant in those.

Our frozen dog food comes in lambs wool. I'm going to give that a try this year

This was super helpful! This is my first season of actually paying attention to over wintering and I learned some useful strategies. Thanks for another interesting video, and for this whole series 👏👏👏

I have several bubble wrap sleeves I have saved over time from book mailings etc. Absolutely perfect for my potted plants. If we get cold enough here in SC (zone 9). I realize you don't use zones in the UK but we don't usually get many days below 30 degrees fahrenheit. Very thankful for your videos, I am excited to join your propagation group soon.

Here in zone 5 b we take in our hoses and the outside faucets get closed off to avoid the pipes freezing. We have days that are up to 70s and nights down to the high 20s. We have had no appreciable rain for 6 -7 weeks already, and the current forecast sees no rain for the next 2 weeks. I have a huge garden and cannot hand water. I fear the ability of many of my shrubs, conifers and perennials to survive this winter.

Brilliant tips for winter Rosie - never thought to put the rose into the watering can, genius!
Can I ask, I have 3 Agapanthus that need over-wintering in an un-heated greenhouse. Should I cover them head to toe in a drawstring fleece bag or just protect and wrap around the pot with fleece?
    Many thanks

I have got a sage plant in a pot and I read somewhere that the leaves turn yellow. Do you think it will help if I cover over with a fleece.
    Many Thanks

Hi Rosy, Thanks for all your good advice through the years! I have a question about overwintering a large potted acanthus plant. It's in year one, has good top growth. I am in zone 7a in South Central Pennsylvania USA. I have it on my covered porch, but I'm worried it might get too cold in there. Will the greenery die back in winter? Should I wrap it in bubble wrap? Water it? It's too large to plunge in my cold frame. Thanks for your thoughts!

Ahh… those are Dahlia with mildew which are about to be put outside trimmed down and allowed to get the leaves frosted before being stored under the benches.

Very informative video as always, thanks Rosy 🫶
Could I get some advice on few things not mentioned here pls?
    1) when could I repot my Prunus Autumnalis that is flowering it's autumn blooms at the moment? I need to move it to a bigger pot.
    2) Acer trees, during cold snap do I need to wrap the whole tree in fleece to protect it especially when the forecast is below zero and very windy?
    3) Roses in containers although they hibernate during winter, you still have to ensure the soil is moist in.. does this apply to other herbaceous plants in containers, water them every 2 weeks to ensure the compost is not dry???
We live in an exposed hill and the wind we be getting sometimes go up to 50kmph 😔 Thank you in advance 😊
