    Thank you so much! My wife wanted to watch some old movies and we spent over $75 on a new (old) bulb and then discovered this issue when trying to feed the film! With your video I was able to get the gear loose in about 15 minutes. Works great now!

    This was extremely helpful... and when he says you have to use alot of wd-40 he is right! I had to spray and spray and spin and spray, I angled the machine depending on which way i sprayed so it would drain into where it needs to go. I did this last night and got the machine working! Thank you so much

    your videos are always well done. but my feed tire looks perfect, not gummy at all, but tire will not spin when pushing down on the rollers. is it possible i just need a need feed tire. please help? thnx:)

      If the feed tire is not turning, there is a problem with the drive system. Start by removing the back cover and work your way from the feed tire spindle shaft back to the main drive shaft. It's impossible for me to diagnose it without actually seeing it. If the motor is turning you can start at that end. Somewhere in between you will find the problem. Good luck!

    I was wondering if you had any advice if I can’t get my projector to turn on period. It’s a Gaf anscovision 688. Got it at goodwill, and thinking of cleaning it up and selling it for a profit.

    Any tips on the take-up reel I've examined it and all the gears spin but the one that connects to the real itself when the projectors in forward doesn't move it's like the gears just spin around their axis should there be some type of pressure Thanks for any responses.

      If you have spindles with the plastic screws they do tighten as the assembly is like a slip clutch. Just be careful not to over tighten and snap off the screw. If you do break it, you can melt out the plastic screw stub and replace it with a metal screw.

    I have the same projector, for some reason it is just absolutely eating film. I've tried with three different old testing reels and it keeps on getting stuck at certain points in the rollers and will crinkle and bunch of the film. I've manually threaded it all the way through and it will still end up bunching up slightly and becoming an issue. Is it a problem with the old film I'm trying to put through it? Or something I should work on with the actual projector. Any tips?

      The first tip, and the thing that almost always gets me in trouble is having the Super 8 - Reg 8 switch set in the wrong position. Other than that, it can be film path itself is sticky or worn. Also, the little pressure plate that presses the film to the gate can need cleaning. The claw can be out of adjustment and not pulling the film properly. Rollers can be sticky. Sprockets spindles can be stuck or sticky. The film itself can have bad perforations and get stuck all by itself. So many different things can cause film to crumple up in the projector. It's hard to say without seeing it. But if you do a thorough cleaning and lubrication that is a good start. Good luck and thanks for writing!

    I have the same projector. Scored a bulb that worked, but died within seconds of starting. However, before it did, I’m pretty sure I noticed that the focus did not seem to affect the projection at all. Any thoughts?

    How can i remove the focus grid/dots?

    • @hardluckcharlie

      Usually when the transmission lever is put in forward or reverse and film is loaded through the film gate the diffuser will lift up and you will not see those "dots". If they don't go away you have a problem in your mechanism. Thank you for writing.

    i have one of these projectors and decided to try it out. went to feed the film through it and the feeding tire was like tar. luckily it only stuck to the white part at the beginning of the film. what made this tire turn to a thick sticky tar goo?

      Some rubber polymers actually dissolve the rubber when exposed to prolonged heat and humidity. They can also become hard and brittle in the right (wrong) conditions. Some of the old Bell & Howell power cords also will leach out a blue-green gooey liquid. It can be quite messy. I have a video about that too. Thank you for watching and commenting.

    I have a projector like this that starts out running fine, but after a minute or two the picture starts to jump, and the motor seems to bog down. I replaced the belt, but this still happens. Any ideas what could cause this?

    • @hardluckcharlie
      @hardluckcharlie  5 лет назад

      You should be able to turn the Feed Tire with your fingers by hand in either direction when the projector is not running. If it is too hard to turn by hand, then hit it with some WD-40. Also, all the rollers should be spinning freely. If the belt is too tight it can cause the projector to bog down. Try taking it off and give it a good stretch out. It should not break and some polyurethane belts need a stretch before use. Other problems can involve the transmission adjustment. I'm making a video for that as well. Thank for watching, and commenting. Good luck!

    This is a helpful fix-it-vid but could have done with some editing (too long) and less loud music. Otherwise thanks for the tip.
