Bow hunting in AR has been tough this year. It’s been unseasonably dry which has altered rhe way the deer would normally navigate the woods. Duck hunters are insistent on looking for water in the woods that just isn’t there. Not to mention the squirrel hunters arr out in droves because they can meander around the dry woods and the mosquitoes have been off the chain. All that said, it’s been a humbling season. I hope you guys bagged one. Glad you are hunting AR.

Great video as always. I do the same thing with heavily pressured spots, but I will add that this year much of the sign I was seeing on public land in Virginia (Big timber mountains) was in the most obvious access routs. I did an experiment and set up cameras. What I found was interesting. Given that most of the mature bucks are bedded in areas where unless THEY screw up they will see or smell anything that approaches, I found that they were using the hunter access corridors and watching them from bedding areas and letting hunters walk right past them. Multiple times I found pics and video of hunters walking right past a trail cam and then a good buck within 30 minutes checking scrapes or scent checking does on the exact same trail. They seemed unconcerned with the pressure since they had likely watched them walk through and stayed put until they knew they could cruise without being detected. This gave me some great plans for setups as long as I could get in without spooking anything and make my movement be in "dead zones" where deer weren't likely to be (approaching the long way down a ridge with no bedding nearby. Just that strategy kept me consistently seeing more mature bucks than I ever have before this season.

Some areas the deer just know where to get to avoid the deer hunting pressure that will put them close to the duck hunters and almost not pay em any attention. Just got to get in tight to that bedding. Good luck on the rest of your hunt.

Have you ever used your decoy during the Rut but take the Antlers off and use it as a doe instead? After about 4 years using a decoy and every year getting some deers attention with it being buck or doe that noticed it but out those years we only had a few times it brought bucks in close enough for a shot, but we were just messing around joking about how they need to make one as a Doe and have a spot to put doe Estrus on it and we decided just to leave the Antlers off and we used i think it was Tinks 69 doe estrus we pinned a piece of cloth on its rear end loaded it down with that Tinks 69 and it was crazy the difference it made with bucks coming all the way to it several actually trying to mount it. I know I personally took two bucks shooting while it was on top of her. We never used Antlers on that decoy again. Even does would come in to it a few does attacking it. Would love to see you guys try that and see if you have the luck we had. Another thing we think we learned was to always ALWAYS wear gloves when touching the decoy even if your just taking it in and out at camp or in and out of the house because that material its made out of holds human sent on it big time. We had several deer in the beginning running from it and we thought they were just scared because it was either a bigger buck then the real one or a doe running from it because she didn't want hassled from a buck during rut but then we caught on maybe us moving it all the time and probably more times then not we weren't wearing gloves. So make sure who ever is touching it they wear gloves
