I visited Mance at his home in Navasota around 1964/5 with a folk club. He was indeed a humble man who reluctantly put away his electric guitar (that he and his family preferred) and got out his Harmony Sovereign acoustic guitar for the white kids. He played some mean blues for us that day then I got a white sidewall haircut at the local country barbershop.
@@kostringworks it's called "me for a parable" I think, I lent it to an artist I know, never get books back of Artists, I should know i have a collection of other people's books too
Mance is not spoken about enough, still less this tune. I was really happy to see this. He really knew every song. I was lucky to discover Mance Lipscomb early in my blues digging/wanting to learn guitar way back. The first full song I learned was his Sugar Babe. Alabama Jubilee and You Gotta See Your Mama Every Night are also fantastic tunes he played out of F position.
It’s funny, I found out about Mance Lipscolm a few weeks ago when I played an open mic, and afterwards a guy I talked to told me about him and how he is from a town a few miles from where I live now
just something that may help another time pre 1940's ish (I think)0.. the standard was 432hz not 440.. I know allot of old players tuned by ear and the. recordings might have speed issues but just something to look out for. thanks for all your hard work man.
That's not true. 440Hz has not always been standard, and it's still not standard everywhere or in all contexts, but it's absolutely wrong to say that 432Hz was standard pre-1940 or at any time.
@@FrogFrogFrogT prior to 1940 there were a variety of standards, although A=432Hz (also known as “Verdi's A”) was the one most frequently used. It wasn't until 1940 that the US adopted A=440 as the standard, with the rest of the world following in 1953.
I just leave it there most of the time as an anchor. My fingers are supported by the pad of the palm of my thumb. I use it mainly on F and D, but I also double thumb some chords on the E and A string like my Bb chord.
Hey Kyle. Great job. Would you consider working out Reverend Gary Davis' "The Angel's Message to Me"? Another interesting song in the key of F. Thanks 😊
.. Mance Lipscomb is my favourite country blues songsters. He often plays a bit different i think. I recommend hie "Alcohol Blues": ruclips.net/video/Resv3TSLXKM/видео.html All best Muffin

Rev. Gary Davis had some killer tunes in F.
Dude he did and I love them!!

simple Google search btw
sounds like more than octaves on the turnaround
You usually have your thumb over the neck. Are you always fretting with it, or just your normal way of holding the neck?

I feel like Charlie plays in F fairly frequently, and I know he loves Mance. . . .
Nice. I know he down tunes his G chord to “sound” like an F chord on his 12, but I also wouldn’t put it past him for playing out of F too. It’s fun!
@@kostringworks Maybe you should get him on and ask him! ;) Last of the Better Days Ahead has to be F...(I think).
Great work as always!

I just can't play that thumb over thing. My thumb's too short. Rats...
I’ve seen some pretty short thumbs get there over time!
