@@julieharris9622 - I personally really believe it. He's making so much value and encouraging many. Hopefully I don't sound unreasonable to ask what was your eventual action or still in the back burner? I tried to test my potential workers by having them work with me remodeling cosmetic stuff. The finished project looked good and under budget. Only concern is peoples peculiarities that could equate to rework, losses, and scheduling issues.
If you lend your license out to some one who does not know the work and something bad happens you the license holder are responsible
Ultimately yes. There's a risk and reward. You have to fully understand both to see if this is right for you. There are companies doing this very thing.
Rules can be different for each state check with state rules and regulations
Some home owners you can never please ok no matter what you do ok this even goes for any building projects residential, commercial, industrial.

Good information. I'm a licensed HVAC/R contractor in TX. In Texas you if you are a license holder for a company you have to be a owner or employee of the company. You can only hold a license for one company at a time. Great information I guess for where you live. Have a blessed day

I have a question. Let’s say I start a company that replaces windows and doors or does patio covers/awnings all of which require a contractors license for in my state. I want to do all the sales and marketing but I’m going to use a contractor to do all the work so basically a different company all together that has a contractors license. Can I do that? Or do I need to also hold a contractors license and subcontract the work to someone that is also licensed to do the work? Hope that makes sense.

Question: is it true that a sole proprietor cannot sign off as an RMO?
And 1 more for the road: if i apply for a contractors license as a sole proprietor can I still piggyback off of someones license? The reason I ask is because the RMO is required to have a min 20% stake in my company (but as a sole proprietor im not sure that I can share ownership).

Question #1:
Yes a sole prop can be an RMO.
Question #2:
As an RMO every license number or every additional company outside of the original license (weather sole prop or corp) will have to be a corporation.
Added:
You do not have to give up a percentage of the corp to the RMO. You a do a bond for the RMO which is the alternative.

Thank you for your video it was helpful, but I had a question. My dad has a landscaping company, but he doesn't have a license. I want to get a license and allow him to use it to help him out, but I am worried about tax issues. If the license under my name is being used would I be doing taxes for his earnings?
Whomever is listed on the corporation will have to file taxes for the company. Just because you hold the license it all depends on how its setup. You could just be an RMO.
In the state of new Mexico you are not supposed to lend out your license or rent it out etc the primary holder of the license is responsible for everything that happens under this license

Let me give us a short example. If an multi million dollar company wants to do work in new Mexico based out of New York. Do you think the owner of this multi million dollar Construction company will sign up to take the test. I don't think so. The best and fastest way is to have an RMO/RME or pay someone to take it for them. What are your thoughts?

One licence contractor who is actually working for a company has a GC ,I can use him has a partner like you explain and do jobs under his license or no because he is currently using his license to work with that company? As a Licensee you are allowed to open up 4 different companies that will each receive its own license number.
Every other company outside of the first company established will have to be incorporated.

As homeowners can we hire a non-licensed person to construct a new room addition (adding square footage to your home) or a totally new home without a license? Is just a normal person is allowed to do this job? I am in California. Your reply would be highly appreciated.
The only thing about being a licensed contractor that benefits working on any home or businesses that we can put a lien on your property if you don't want to pay. That's it! It doesn't matter if the person is licensed or not. If they know how to do the work hire them they'll probably do it cheaper anyway because companies that are licensed upsell the shit out of you. 😂

In NC I would be fined, put on probation, and or possibly lose my license if I allow someone to use it. I would hope this would apply across all states with a licensing board.
It's allowed in california for you to become an RMO or RME for another license with certain criteria met. California allows you to open 3 separate companies, all with a different license number.

I got a solar company who wants to use me as a RME because i got the C-10 license…… is this a good idea?? they are also a corporation im the sole owner of the c-10 but currently not actively searching for my own work and jobs…. they said id get about 2k a month…… sounds good to me but need to know from someone with experience
I charge $200.00 to walk both parties through this type of agreement. There's pro's and cons on both sides. I'm a big fan of these deals once both parties have an understanding. Shot me an email to discuss more. There's a chance you could get paid more as well.

Hello how do you become a subcontractor?
A contractor proposed to me that he can “qualify a business” I don’t know how that works.
I'm a contractor (General and Roofing) in Florida....Its not worth it...A few thousand bucks, my license will be worth millions in my lifetime..

Qashawn Lewis it’s definitely worth it, just don’t be a fool and get a flat rate of 500 measly bills. You charge a % off the top and a % on all profits per job.
How can I get license. I been to trade school for two years for carpentry but I started a renovation company and caught on to other trades easy now I want license is this possible without working under another license contractor?
The minimum requirements are 4yrs of experience within a 10yr period. The board does recognize schooling by its a case by case. If you graduate and completed you have a shoot to use part of it towards the 4yrs.

I have a job in Virginia doing a demolition project just knocking some short walls in 16 bathrooms I’m trying to find someone I can piggyback off to do a 6 week job I’m from Indiana so how do I find a piggyback in class A license
I would search platforms like craigslist. I would even post an ad on craigslist in the labor section in need of someone to partner with. I would comb through the license board directory and start calling on licensed companies until you find the one. WWW.CONSTRUCTIONENTREPRENEURS.COM

Another question can a GC qualifie a person who sealcoat parking lots?
Are you referring to qualifying for the application? If not then what are you referring to about qualifying?

If I have my own sealcoating and striping business, can a GC be appointed as my RMO since I dont have a license and I dont have experience to get one. In short, in most states, one company using anther companies license is illegal. The license holder is 100% responsible for EVERYTHING that happens pertaining to that/those projects. If you are using someone's license or someone is using yours, you NEED to be consulting with a lawyer.
You are only establishing partnerships. Expanding on your opportunities and resources. And every Agreement should be a legal binding document.

On another note. How do you think large corporations expand into other states. You think the owners are in line signing up to take the State exam. No they are utilizing this method.
There's a reciprocity agreement with many states so the exam isn't always required, We just fill out the application and provide the documentation from our home state. Some states they don't even require us to apply for their license and use our home state license. I'm not disagreeing with your video, I'm just recommending people consult legal council before they do it. There could be a whole lot of risk which isn't worth the reward when you let someone use your license.
Agree, in some states, not all including VA where I live, the person the holds the license can "work" for more than one company. VA did away with that in 2016 and now each company needs to have it's own. I own two companies and I'm required to have a license for each.

Its not just pulling permits because if you are pulling permits they are doing the work. So you have to monitor the work.

All depends if your city has a system that will allow them to pull that information up without sharing personal information in the process. Its worth a try.
If you feel someone is using your license, like an old partner, I would take some time and pay a visit to the permit counter.

I have some that's willing to be an RMO. You have to have an Corporation setup already to start.

What type of partnership agreement do you use ?
In the beginning l'll start off with one from legal zoom. If the partnership last after a year I would pay a lawyer to draft one. Nowadays I pay the lawyer. Hopefully this helps

Jo Ko you can find someone on Craigslist to piggyback on. Just be aware of the high charges of RMO agencies.

Every company pays its own taxes.
Someone offered me $500 a month to borrow my license but according to the cslb i must be hired as an employee if not i can get fined or imprisoned

I have a B.A. in accounting, I am in school in electrical technology/apprentice in two years I will have a technical degree. I might be joining the union soon. I am quite curious if I have to work (4) additional years as a journeyman to able my C-10 license, I am wondering if I can even apply as a GC?

Just look at your local union IBEW.. nd apply to get in the trade ..with your BA degree..I take you have good math skills ..nd Graf's records..take the aptitude test from the union they pick the top 10% ..u need mechanical,hands on skills,math,nd basically pretty much common Sense logic skills..bathing big..if you score hight on it you will be picked..it be a five year aprenticeship..... There should be a way to VERIFY not fair you work hard for someone else to work your license.
It's a hard thing to monitor since most of the jobs done like this is small. Easy to get away with.

Temporarily leasing upr license to another us a clear violation in California. If this is OK in some States you should be more State specific because this is the kind of information that would disallow a candidate to get a license for 5 years.
This is not illegal. Not sure how you interpret this way of doing business.
Let me give you an example.
When a large out of town corporation wants to do work in California. You think that billion dollars owner is going to sit down to take the state exam. NO. A big waste of time for that individual. He will get an RMO to license his corporation to do work in California.
I'm not making us smaller contractors aware of what the larger corporations do to expand into other states or just into California.

Contractors and their license don't mean jack cheese! I had one just look at what I proposed and he didn't price quote but he did talk about possibilities. I wanted a new porch with two columns. I also talked to a contractor with an expired license but gave him a go anyway as he and his father advertised on radio and television. And that doesn't mean anything. The big shot contractors prefer someone who is ignorant of the building codes and construction means and techniques. He got two of his backwards employees to do the work which was very bad. I complained and he had to start all over again, this time with me breathing down his neck. Finger man sounds like he will baffle you with baloney. Probably 3/4ths of these people are rip offs.
