Join Kyle Houchens for this in depth model of a classic trike design from sketch to 3D using Rhino 7. More SubD tutorials... www.rhino3d.com/tutorials/#subd
I just wanna say thanx for this Kyle... I'm using this clip over and over as a guide and help for so many little projects! Everytime I get stuck on something I sort of remember you doing something similar etc in this tutorial - I go back to this and look it up :) Really appreciate this since subD is totally new to me...
Another good one, Kyle. Just took me a few days to get through it :p How do you determine when it's ok to allow a triangle vs. a quad? Your end model still had a triangle in it in the top of the frame for the fade transition.
triangles can be useful for fading detail and in our subd system are completely ok...(as are ngons when necessary) there is a great chart for how to control them here: www.blender3darchitect.com/blender-3d/table-with-mesh-organization-tips-for-3d-polygon-modeling/
Thanks for this video. I've been using Rhino a while but new to SubD. My only complaint is that I wish you would not mumble so much. I had to back up several times and turn the volume up to try to catch some of the things you were saying.
Hello Rhinoguide, a personal issue: I'm trying to do something similar to what happens at 19min 53sec of this video. But when I select an edge/edge circle, I scale and duplicate it at once (with Alt hold) I always obtain new curves and not new surface edges (like your fender rib). I tried it with different polygons and objects and key combinations but no way.. could you explain it to me please?
Start scaling the edgeloop with the Gumball and then while still holding the left mouse button down on the Gumball scale handle, also hold down the Ctrl key on Windows or the CMD key on Mac. This will create new SubD faces as shown at that location in the video. Post to the Rhino user forum if you need more help... discourse.mcneel.com/

whats the hotkey to change to box mode?
Tab
SubD in rhino 7 has seemed a bit like a gimmick to me,... but after watching this video I'm thinking maybe I want rhino 7 after all.
no smoke, no mirrors...just goodness...give it a try!
in my office they still keep rhino 5 for using TSpline but I guess with SubD they dont need rhino 5 anymore.
@@vu_derArchitekt you want 7... it's a big leap over 5.
