    I am a MTG and Pokemon player and collector. Sadly since becoming a Dad my time in those TCGs have reduced...but now Lorcana has changed that! My kids 2 and 4 LOVE going through the binders and finding their fav characters. It's the best designed TCG we have had for a long time. Looking forward to them being old enough so I can teach them how to play. I hope the game can survive the test of time, as these characters have proven to be able to do.

Singles after released once prices settle is the only time I feel most people buy on TCGPlayer. All prices before release especially on singles are extremely inflated. My 9 year old son and I enjoy Lorcana and I will be at DLC Las Vegas in a few weeks. I hope Lorcana continues to grow. This game is really just Kaijudo with a Disney skin on it, they have the same designer after all. But, the iconic characters and the fairly accessible gameplay make it very easy for kids and people unfamiliar with TCGs to get into. I've noticed Lorcana has almost entirely replaced all the Yugioh product at the local big retailers in my area over the last few months, and it's selling way better than Yugioh has in the last 10 years among kids aged 8-13. As a game, it's not something I would play, but Lorcana has clearly identified and positioned itself to be the 2nd most popular TCG with kids behind Pokemon in the US.

  • @HeyApples
    @HeyApples 5 месяцев назад +10

    I spend enough time at card shops to see a constant stream of Pokemon card buyers who admit they barely (if at all) know how to play the game. They just collect the characters. Disney has a larger portfolio of characters and die hard fans just the same. So long as they can dust off the early growing pains and stabilize, I agree with your sentiment completely. Between a solid game system and the non player collectors, they have some long term potential.

    • @el676
      @el676 4 месяца назад

      Maybe and I don’t know. Pokemon is completely different and managers at the top have proven time and time again their business acumen and genuine dedication for their brand. Lorcana isn’t owned by Disney but rather an unaffiliated board game company (Ravensburger). Price ares higher because of this but more importantly, if it starts to not to do well, Disney is not bailing it out. Bob Iger will this die in a heartbeat if it saves money. Disney is already struggling a bit with park sales because it’s so darn expensive. If this were owned by Disney and a key part of its future I would feel differently. The game is entirely on the hands of Ravensburger. Doesn’t mean they don’t be successful, it just feels they won’t be able to weather the highs and lows as much. Disney Lorcana is really Ravensburger Lorcana - licensed by Disney.

      Pokemon is definitely a collectors card game but I'm not sure if people are loving Disney that much these days with their decisions lately and their push towards live action having less charm. They've got a lot less these days compared to when we grew up with it that I'm wondering the sort of staying power kids today have with it.

  • @Theboardbro

    I would say that they have done little to no marketing so far and have only tapped into the folks who were already in the TCG space or games space. It isn’t even available where the real Disney fans are such as inside the theme parks or advertised by Disney themselves. So I think once they really get the ball rolling with parks and new films and whatnot I think it still has potential to grow exponentially into the future.

    it’s that nostalgia factor that got me involved.
    Lorcana’s been around for a year and enchanted prices and “hit” cards for players aren’t anywhere near hitting 0. organized play events are selling out in 3min for 2000 players. Yes, special alternate arts below the Enchanted rarity, 1 per box on average would be great. I'd also like the Enchanteds to be in traditional art styles and find another way to implement the set specific Enchanted arts that they are doing, maybe those could be the alt art cards. I just think it takes away from the specialness of enchanteds when they are those jank set art cards. And only characters should be enchanted. Getting a crap song enchanted as a case hit is devastating.

The old movies, kingdom hearts, disney channel, disney world, etc… disney will always be something of interest, and they will definitely be valuable in the future as long as a lot of them get destroyed, and due to kids being attracted to them even more than usual theres a good chance of that. Even if it takes 200 years, theyre gonna be worth something someday

    I'm a magic player at first and honestly with all the dramas and to many sets coming out, me and my friends were starting to get exhausted. So I made the first move to start buying lorcana for just having this good nostalgia of pulling cards of movies I watch and grew up with. Just me making the first move made my friends and my brother do the same and honestly I dont regret it at all. The game is refreshing and fun while keeping a sense of the other tcgs around. And even my skeptic friends that didnt want no part in it watched some games with of me and others playing and got caught in the movement we started in our town. I just think instead of focusing to much about the money, if the game his truly popular to just find connection with others and enjoy what little we have in this depressing world. Im sorry for the bad English hope you enjoyed my opinion ❤

    I have experience with dead tcgs, many times the company prints too much, then they fall face first. So many stores order the first 3 sets, the game falls off set 4-5, most store stop ordering that game set 6, the game continues sets 7-8 with the few stores that still supports them, then dies. All those boxes go online, and the market looks something like this :
    Boxes upon boxes of sets 1-3 they sell them for 25$, sets 4-5 35$, set 6 retail price (because the low print begun), set 7-8 500$ (impossible to find relics basically).
    There are still some players playing, they feel nostalgia, they want to sets 7-8. Even though there is only 2000 world wide players still playing that dead tcg, there is only 10 sealed sets 7-8 left, prices go up. Supply and demand.
    Im not saying this translates for lorcana, but be wary, nothing is guranted.

I did buy a few starter decks from Shimmering Skies and Ursala's Return as well as a few boosters from Inklands, but I'm less $100 into the game and I don't know anybody actually playing it. I just don't know if I'm going to continue to pursue it or not yet at this point.
    I am not a TCG/CCG fan in general because of the bottomless money pit they can become, I got out of MTG in the mid '90s because I could already see that it was becoming VERY expensive, and quite frankly I'd rather buy a hobby board game and stick it on the shelf instead.

    If we compare Pokemon to Lorcana, Lorcana is Disney but Pokemon is Pokemon (yes it’s owned by three companies, Nintendo being the most known) but it is its own brand in many ways.
    Lorcana will always just be Disney. I don’t see it as a brand. If Lorcana had its own characters separate from the common Disney characters I think (though higher risk) it would perform better in the long run. More thoughts on that…
    In addition, the excitement about Pokemon is the release of new generations with new packs, a new video game and new show with the new generation. Lorcana will be launching things that have already existed that people have to wait and hope for. One reason why Shimmering Skies flopped is probably related to Wreck it Ralph not being the most ideal to launch this early. However, Big Hero 6 might be better. On this note, what if Lorcana goes the direction of Marvel and Star Wars and the demand for classic Disney characters falls away?
    I think there are a lot of questions but I don’t think it will fail. I just don’t see it reaching the likes of other popular TCGs even 10-20 years from now.
    How’s Lorcana going to branch out from just a card game but establish itself as its own brand that is a branch of Disney?

    I think the game will survive but....... unlike pokemon, magic, yugioh etc many people are stockpiling sealed product which was definitely not the case in the 90s-00s. Average people simply have more capital whether cash or access to credit not to mention knowledge based on predecessor tcgs to hold sealed product. Looks like in 20 years there will be a bunch of sealed/graded product to not warrant high values. Just my opinion. (I'm sitting on a case of each set indefinitely)

    My biggest problem with the TCG is the barrier to entry, in terms of getting a deck that can compete in a normal LGS night. It can cost hundreds just for a few play sets of core singles 💀. Having the same card in multiple rarities (like pokemon TCG) would most likely help at least a little bit

    • @sultanofswing9838
      @sultanofswing9838 5 месяцев назад

      But this is true for most TCGs that aren’t Pokémon. Magic and YGO decks are far more expensive to be competitive, many Lorcana players are usually very willing to trade and help you build for much cheaper than just buying TCG singles

    • @akebo92
      @akebo92 5 месяцев назад

      Before at my LGS people played competitive decks starting out, but as time has gone on and more available cards come out, people have been making less competitive theme decks to mess around with until tournament time. Someone the other day made a Flotsam Jetsam deck and another did a Mickey and friends only deck.

      This game is the cheapest TCG out of the big ones. The most expensive deck will run you close to $400 and that’s if you’re heavily invested into that color combination you don’t need to play that. Like others in here are saying you can build something under $100 and do decent with it at locals or even at Set Champs. I play red purple which is a meta deck and I got everything for about $200 which is fairly cheap when it comes to tcg standards. Yugioh you need playsets of cards that are $50+ each.

    The major issue with Lorcana is that unlike other tcgs that can create new cards every set, Lorcana has to rely heavily on ip, something that isn't sustainable. You can only make so many Mickey, Belle, Elsa, Hercules, etc. cards before they all just appear the same and become void of any differences to make them valuable in their own right. Only way for Lorcana's survival is to start moving towards implementing non ip characters so that it can stand a chance of surviving longer than 5 years.

    only first set has any speculative value or nostalgia, it was heavily frontloaded with bomb legendaries. You can get an entire floodborn set for about $60 with only Beast and Mim Fox being the only cards above $4. Inklands is cheaper now ursula and diablo came down . Overall, I don't see any trend that will lead me to believe anything other than first chapter will ever hold any future weight.
