Dimash has had a few newer versions of this song. Maybe you could have showed your wife one of those. In those his voice is improved. To me Dimash is the world's best singer of course followed by a Brazilian singer Gabriel Henrique who also was in a contest called SHADOW BRASIL. He can do crazy high notes too.
Dimash said in an interview that at that time he did not have a repertoire for this type of competition. And that he was prepared to participate in 1 or 2 rounds only. So it was a real challenge to prepare each song, arrangements, decide how to interpret it, in a week sometimes from scratch, like Chinese songs. And sing in languages he didn't know. He didn't speak any English or Chinese at all, so he had to communicate all the time through a translator. And work hard on pronunciation.
So coming in second was a testament to how amazing he is not only as a singer, but as someone who works hard to give his best to his audience.

It was the first time that a foreign singer was invited to this contest and the rule was that it could not be won by anyone other than a Chinese singer. Dimash was the youngest at 22 among all the singers, so the show's producers thought it would only last one or two episodes. Dimash's level was so high and overwhelming that in the middle of the program this famous singer was called in to try to minimize Dimash's extraordinary talent. The other contestants and the spectators themselves accepted that if it weren't for that rule, Dimash would have won handily. Dimash accepted the rule, but in the end he was the winner in audience and popularity. After that first performance of S.O.S. and being an absolute unknown the day after the presentation had 600 million followers. The rules of the program for 2018 changed and as a result of what happened with Dimash, anyone could win the contest. His first album called "D" went platinum in 60 seconds and triple platinum in two hours. Greetings from Panama.

In the US (population 330 million, one-fourth that of China) it takes one million sales to reach "Platinum." I have introduced almost all of my family to Dimash. But I have yet to make any of them a Dear 😑 they must all be blind and deaf is my conclusion 😂
I always enjoy watching reactors introducing their friends or loved ones to Dimash and always hope for the best---because there is always the risk of the newbie not liking what they see! I know, because I have tried to introduce Dimash to my very best friends and most simply don't "get him." It's always so sad and disappointing when they walk away unimpressed, but immensely fulfilling when one finally connects with him based on my introduction.
I mean, everybody has it's own taste, but yeah, nothing beats the feeling of somebody sharing your amazement for the same type of music or artist!
Unfortunately, in the west, an appreciation of an artist is often tied to the song and whether it has a good beat or a hook! If it is a great song, then (supposedly) you have a great artist! You can chalk this up to arts education in our schools (that is the lack of it)! This is why we end up with (so-called great) artists like Drake, Justin Bieber, or Megan Thee Stallion!
Yes, I've had exactly the same experience here on the west coast of the US. The vast majority of those with whom I have attempted to share my fanaticism for Dimash have rejected him. I have come to accept that most music fans in my circle of friends and acquaintances are content to listen to mediocre pop music with no desire to expand their music taste to something more complex and creative. It makes me sad until such time as I connect with others in my own community who truly appreciate Dimash, one of whom recently traveled 10,000 miles to see his concert in Prague----all as a result of my sharing his Tokyo Jazz Festival performance of "Ikanaide" on a local neighborhood communication site.
There will always be that someone who would pour ketchup on a Wagu steak.

Thank you for introducing Dimash to your lovely wife, Anna. She is adorable! Did you tell her that there was a Dimash documentary where Dimash was watching you react to him? By the way, the reason Dimash didn't win "I Am Singer" is because in 2017 the rules of the show didn't allow a foreign singer to be the winner. Dimash was the first foreign singer invited to the competition, the first wild-card competitor among the already-famous singers (one who was completely unknown to the Chinese audience), and the youngest singer in the history of the show. The rules were changed after Dimash's season, and Jessie J won the following year.
But why did they invite him, if the rules didn't allow him to win? 🤔
@@lieselmeminger267 Because they liked him, and adding a wildcard to the show was something new in an attempt to bring new interest to the show. They only expected him to be there for 2 episodes, then they would bring in Adam Lambert or Sam Smith. But the audience loved Dimash way beyond their expectations.

Politics was why he didn't win in 2017 and everyone knows it.Dimash was the only non Chinese contestant and the youngest contestant.The rule was changed the following year and the first non Chinese contestant did win. Also when Dimash released a digital album in China the following year, it went Platinum in 37 seconds and triple Platinum in an hour.
I really doubt that was the main reason, I've watched the whole season and as much as I love Dimash he had a few off performances (not very good song choices for him and things like that, for example Uptown funk), while Sandy was constantly great. I was rooting for him but to me, the ranking was fair. I really watched and followed every detail and as much as I wished he win, as a musician and vocal coach I can agree with the results.
To put the Platinum plateau in perspective, though, Jonathon, in China (with it's billion and a half population) Platinum is only 40,000 copies, whereas in the US (with only 350 million population) Platinum is one million copies. Quite the difference and less impressive when you think that Triple Platinum in China only amounts to 120,000 copies in a country with so many people.

Здравствуйте, спасибо за реакцию , мне понравилась она, да и с юмором у вас с Анной все в порядке.По поводу любимой части в песне хочу обратить Ваше внимание на исполнение SOS Димашем на Славянском Базаре в городе Витебск в 2018 году / Белоруссия/.Сцена находится под открытым небом и это только усиливает эффект того,что Димаш говорит с Космосом , когда поет разными голосами, а потом его Голос просто улетает в Небеса и этот момент поймал опе ратор -просто отличная работа мастера.Впечатляет , на каком расстоянии держит микрофон Димаш!И это все надо видеть и слышать!

I mentioned it at the beginning, because this is the first performance I've ever watched and it's the one that introduced Dimash to the world so it seemed fitting to start there.
I guess because this is most of our introduction to him... yes he has improved but this performance is still amazing and incredibly nostalgic xxx
Well, may be his voice is more mature now, and his digital concert version is "more felt" but I prefer this (the first Dimash video that I watched) and the Slaviansky Bazaar version (my favorite) because his tone is sweeter and beautiful in these both.
I prefer this version particularly at the end.

Dimash is phenomenal. I saw him in concert in Düsseldorf on the 9th of April and he was magnificent. The best three hours of my life.

Actually the day after this 1st episode aired in China, Dimash found out that he had become instantly popular in China and ALL the young women in China wanted him, and were gathered outside his hotel waiting to see him, and then he realized that he now needed security guards to go outside. Well, forget that! EVERYONE wanted Dimash. After listening to him for the first time 7 months ago, I was instantly hooked and became a Dear, so.

Sandy Lam was 52 from memory, I think & had 30 albums out. She made 2 more that year after this show. The Chinese respect elders more than the West & I feel this is why she won. Dimash was certainly God-level but Sandy was amazing also
You have just witnessed the most talented vocalist known to mankind in my opinion. Dimash is proudly from Kazakhstan! Just go to his official RUclips channel Dimash Qudaibergen and watch from this point forward which was his FIRST performance of this song "SOS" on the Chinese show "Singer" from 2017 where he was a contestant. He has 10 more performances from this show available to watch! Watch 2nd, 3rd and so on. He was 22 years old then. He is now 27 and has done so many things since. He is a world renowned vocalist. You cannot call Dimash just a singer. He has an 8 octive range. You will see. Just watch everything he has done. He also has a lot of pop songs in English such as "Fly Away", "Screaming" and "Be With Me". He is an exceptional talent! Your life will never be the same!

That's how it all started: In 2017 Dimash received a wildcard for the “The Singer” competition in China. He was the youngest participant ever (22 years old). Foreign participants were actually forbidden at that time. The director ignored the ban, believing Dimash would only stay 1 or 2 episodes and then go home.
Despite Dimash's planned brief presence, his name was intended to be symbolic and understandable to the public. Dimash was given the Chinese name Dimashi and the 3 syllables were assigned in Chinese characters: ⭐Di - achievement ⭐Ma - precious stone ⭐Shi - dream, wish.
The competition is not a talent show. Only professional, award-winning singers participate. Nobody knew or heard Dimash before and he had to start first ... and after his first song "SOS" Dimash captured the hearts of over 600 million viewers and a mega-star was born overnight. The next day, bodyguards stood in front of his door.
The competition consisted of 14 rounds over 4 months. The jury consisted of 500 spectators who knew music, not just your average "Joe". They were well screened to be sure they would be able to judge the musicians fairly and competently. With up to 1 billion people watching this TV program and international interest was aroused. The performances were uploaded to RUclips ... and so we became Dimash's Dears.
The Chinese organizers planned... but Dimash came, sang and stayed ... for the next 3 years in China ... but he only finished second in the competition because he is not Chinese (conditions have changed: 2018, Jessie J. won).

FINALLY! Someone gives credit to the awesome drummer in the band. How he lays that beat so perfectly back in the pocket while listening to that vocal performance will never cease to amaze me. Every drum hit in that performance is perfectly placed, and as nervous as Dimash says he was, he also resisted the temptation to push the tempo. Just stunning by EVERYONE involved in that performance, and they all should get credit.

This was the first time China had ever invited someone from another country, and the winner she was from China also. The singer who won each day got to rest the next day, and he won either 2 or 3 times the days event, but wound up second. All those songs he sang there are worth watching.

Hi Guys, Awesome reaction from you both. Ana seemed a bit noncomital at first but she was probably taken by surprise !! Lol. You obviously love SOS so he sang this recently, April, whilst he was in Dubai for his solo concert, it was at an awards ceremony where he received an award then sang SOS it's a great performance with a slightly different music arrangement. If you search YT for Dimash SOS - EMI Gala 2022 and enjoy the experience . 👍👍😊😊
Dimash was not part of the official competition which is open only to Chinese. He was a guest performer and he actually won (he was judged to have won ) 7 of the 8 episodes and would have won the whole thing officially if he were Chinese. He won, yes, he won!! Even his "competitors" knew he was the best singer there by quite a margin!
Dimash was a guest in the competition, and the rules of that competition not aloud to outsider to win.
