Slim Pickens is by far my fav song they've ever done, and I've been a fan of offspring since the album smash. That tells you I'm old, and have been following this band for decades.
2 songs 1 video, absolutely flawless. I came for the music, and stayed for the animation. The 2 songs seem like their actually two halves of the same story which is a brilliant idea, and the video simply reinforces that feeling.

"Riding on a missile with a cowboy hat" has a missplaced modifier. With "with a cowboy hat" coming right after "missle" it implies a missle actively wearing a hat.

Out of all of the amazing songs from The Offspring, this is one of my favorites. Its two songs in one. The ability of the artists to create it is phenomenal. Even on the lyrics, it is two songs together creating a story.
Kinda badass... Kinda corny. The scene where he just jumps from a plane back on his rocket and kills people shooting at him from a plane with a pistol? Dude has more plot armor than the entirety of star Wars rebels
N A no ..killed him because he destroyed his heart in his hand at the end .. making him unfit for that position .. cause you gotta have heart for that job its symbolic heart in one hand scepter or lever of hell in the other .. dates back to the pyramids .. youll see a similar thing on tomb walls of several cultures .. by destroying the heart he became unfit to rule hell the blue guy is chaos "order from chaos " ..chaos from order ..
The study it's done in reminds me of some show from my childhood I can't quite remember. I've been watching it on a loop since finding it, just to see the details.
It's interesting that the blue angel, while a force of chaos, is only ever seen slaying both sides in succession. When one side (Red) proves the definitive winner in the end, he promptly shows up to behead them, continuing the theme of never letting any given side fully win. Earlier in the video, the grenades act as a chekov's gun, as while he only pulls one to use on the plane behind him, in doing so he reveals he has additional grenades in reserve, waiting to be used. I'm unsure who's decision it was to use the grenade in the latter half of the video- Slim pulls it free in his cage before the identity crisis starts, but it's the Red General fighting for control when one of them manages to pull the pin.
I've always wondered what the blue gas was - releasing the peoples inner demons? But, why? It was clear that said demons weren't a fan of the robots. :o
@@vincentproud6589 I think maybe Blue gas was meant to release the inner turmoil of the party goer in the way Kill me pls described the Blue Angel being an agent of Anarchy, there were only like three colors in this whole video and it was only ever Yellow vs Red with Blue mixed in
I might be delusional but i think the meaning of the video is about the duality of war, revolution and authority. Like the saying "only the revolution matters, until it comes to be authority". Idk might be my own political and social views translating it that way
I love the animation for the first part. It almost feels cheap, but then it just looks awesome at the same time. That whole sketch-like quality to it is so cool, and the second part is great too, just different. Everyone lost their outlines.
I love the raw energy of the crowd. It embodies the sheer destructive nature within humanity. That resentment buried so deep it can only escape when we are driven to the absolute height of emotional anarchy, when our every bottled emotion rushes forth to express themselves all at once. It’s its own kind of ecstasy. In such a state, humans can become overwhelmed by our deep, primal urge to not only watch the world burn, but to actively contribute to the fire.
That static hum from the guitar amplifier that was picked up and not cut out made the gear head in me jump for joy. Love tiny details like that. That accentuates the drummer putting in that simple flam beat in the silence of the others even more.

Days Go By is such a painfully underrated album. Such great songs like Divided By Zero, Slim Pickens, The Future is Now, and one of my all time favorites Secrets of the Underground. If you haven't listened to Offspring in awhile, check out this album. It's a hidden gem with fantastic songs.
everything in this song is colour coded yellow=good/slim red =bad/red commander blue=chaos/blue angel orange=order/robots gray=neutral/crowed and I think that the gas was the robots trying to sniff out the demons in the crowed in order to kill them, and the reason it worked on slim was because the red com was fused with him by B angel. edit: we can also possibly assume two things from the lyrics, #1: that blue angel's name is anarchy and #2: that the robots are trying to organize hell, all the demons in hell had hidden themselfs as everyone else. That's what the blue gas was for.
I don't think the blue angel is chaotic at all. I think it's a matter of calculus in grade school. That is, it's not easy to understand much of anything from the human perspective -- as if you live to be 100, you'll have seen so little, yet still be convinced that things have changed in a massive way. The best any can do is study so as to understand why something that seems chaotic is actually very definite order. Presuming you understood all of the variables going into the roll of dice, you could use fair dice and get the roll you expect every time without any hokey manipulation (like weighted or otherwise unfair dice). Both sides are about to murder each other. Thus, both sides are evil. We just have a tendency to choose sides based on imagery, which is why some of the commenters see this and like red, while most, prefer yellow because of the character they've set as the protagonist versus a horned beast of a critter for red. If yellow was truly good, not a single red would die, and yet, they would still be victorious (IE, all of the red side might be put into a sleep-state and captured and processed with zero deaths). Orange, and the hell they exist in, are pairs like you said, with demons in human suits, who swallow the remaining humanity in those around them when offered a "blue" gas, like a bait and food, giving them more strength than the human side. Like working with wild animals, you use nets to contain something that might lash out versus catching it with your bare hands. In the future, what amounts to a net, might just be a gun that temporarily paralyzes a given creature without a dart, or chemical. The robots aren't likely to be either consumed, or perverted by those who never mastered their sin around them. If you've seen the anime Bleach, there are a few scenes where Ichigo speaks with his hollow form. They talk about who will ride the other, like a horse. It's not much different than the Bible's, "Master your sin, or it will master you," speech that God gives Cain prior to Cain murdering his brother. A house divided, is a house that falls. If all humans currently on the earth are products of Noah's offspring, then how divided are we? If a king has two heirs and must divide the kingdom, lest one becomes jealous of the other, what do those heir's children do? ruclips.net/video/7RjI44WXKMI/видео.html Watch "One Tin Soldier, There will be no trumpets blowing Come the Judgement Day" Also note, that God didn't destroy Sodom, until there were no more decent people there. I like that you took the time to think this all over though!
@@turkyandgravy I can sense the overarching meaning of the lyrics, but fuck me if I know what the visual story here is other than “this sucks, blow it up”
@@sketchbook8177 I think it's about an internal struggle. This man has compartmentalized himself from his more sinister side, and the angel of death is his shadow self, that forces him to resolve his own cognitive dissonance. There's nothing left for us to be, so give it up the kings of anarchy. Double down and have another round(of hell) on me. He can no longer justify living that way. He did the right thing, the nation of past selves is chanting dance fucker dance in support. It's jam packed with christian symbolism.
4:44 I like how the red guy is like. "Finally! I'm free from the pilot's body and I have at last defeated him!" Only to have his head lopped off by the blue angel dude.
Here's what I believe the meaning of this video is, (TL;DR at the end) This is the inner workings of someone mentally unstable, the protagonist is Slim Pickens, the poor madlad is the representation of the person's ego, the army he is part of represents the control he has of his mind, at 1:44 the lyrics mention his perseverance and willingness to intervene with the "demon's plans", their plans are mentioned various times, on of them is right before, at 1:37, referring to his ambitions, his greed is also mentioned at 2:56, his "closing in on you" and "weighing on you" may also mean that he got his desires under control, but as is clearly seen, this war for control is taking its toll, slowing destroying him. The blue angel is his alter ego, his appearance is similar to Slim Pickens and color palette is blue, opposed to the demons red, he has his alter ego serving as relief from the stress, but it's never letting his inner war end, making him brimming with indecisiveness and always trying to making him accept himself and his desires as seem in 2:22, but accepting his desires is a ticking bomb, the war became silent but it may explode at any moment. When he accepted his desires, his ego compressed into two sides completely, with him still on the "control" of his mind, but he is now aware of his inner demons, he is the bomb that rode to the hell that is the depths of his mind, his inner desires were repressed for so long that it became similar to a hell, as mentioned in 2:29, but even if he is in the control of his mind, he is a prisioner of his desires now, and his desires need fuel, the part at 2:45 may signify that this is not the first time he indulged in his desires, and the war before may be him holding himself, but right after the lyrics says that it will not be the same, this will scar him, 2:58 may imply that his desires may involve drugs, alcohol, sex or similar, the "snake in the grass" may mean treachery, the following lyrics kinda supports that with a provocation, like calling him to make his revenge, soon after the robots, wich represents his body autonomy that it's out of his control, shoot a blue gas, it's probably some anger chemical, since the other desires go rampage after infection, including his ego with his inner demon trying to take control and blowing everthing up, the machines deactivate, it can imply that he has gone haywire outside his mind, since the gas is blue like the angel, it can also imply that the angel all this time was fuelled by anger, and once his desire take over, also fueled by anger, since the alter ego, aka the angel, tends to be the opposite of the ego, he now wants to destroy his desires. TL;DR: Everything is occurring in some person's mind, the person is mad with desire for revenge, his ego is having a war with himself and his desires, his alter ego makes sure no one wins and makes him accept his desire, his ego becomes a ticking bomb and falls on the depths of the hell that is his mind, now his desire takes control and he watches everything burning down, his inner desire comes out, and his alter ego, which was previously fueled by anger, flips sides now becoming the voice of reason. Forgive me for any grammar mistakes.
Too much allegory. Things are what they are everything else is personal interpretation according to subjective taste. The blue ángel is an agent of chaos preventing any side wins
This is an interesting interpretation and I have a somewhat similar one. The red demon represents the id (primal urges and base desires), the yellow pilot the ego (judgement and reason, keeping the id in check), and the blue angel the super-ego (morality but also self-doubt). The fall into hell is hitting rock bottom, maybe some sort of drug addiction, alcoholism, gambling, or hell even just total burnout. And at the end, the angel beheading him could represent an intervention of some sort, since the super-ego also represents society’s expectations, or maybe an epiphany, or more grimly, suicide.
I think you got it best and that you put the time into writing it down so carefully (grammer aside) just proves it. You have the undestanding of a poet and psychologist. A bit of misery and suffering next thing you know we will all be dancing around a dumpster-fire you lit. The song inspired the video. Can you guess where the words really came from?
The part where anarchy is everywhere and their heads are splitting while breaking the bots sends a shiver down my spine. The good kind. The kind that makes me want to split my head open and break things while laughing manically.
I drive for more than an hour every day to work and this is one of few songs with lyrics in my morning playlist. Your voice is a god given instrument Kings.

Lycan1221 No, you're right. That's such an awesome move.
"No way back, time to go down hard" :D
So..the equivalent of a kamikaze is badass? The double standards are real
@@Ewang2727 Aw, did you just learn about double standards and didn't quite understand properly? Slim is absolutely screwed when he has the option to hit the button, he's dead either way, yet rather than bailing and just falling to his death he returns fire on the guys fighting against him. He didn't fly his aircraft into the enemy, which is the only form of kamikaze to be reliably documented, and if your brain can take a bit more info, you'll notice he glances at the eject button first. He never intended to fly into the flagship with his own aircraft.

@@Maeve.36 Of course it's wearing a cowboy hat, why would anyone ride on a missile if said missile doesn't have style?

1:58 jumping off a airplane while blowing it up
2:03 riding a missle while being shot at from all sides
2:16 the explosion of a airplane missle and a rocket launcher shot going off in his face
2:22 merging souls with the demon dude
2:38 like a 400ft drop
3:36 being attacked by demons
4:00 a grenade explosion that was powerful enough to destroy a airplane eariler

It’s amazing how these guys can just show back up whenever they want and release a song that sounds exactly it’s supposed to
It's interesting that the blue angel, while a force of chaos, is only ever seen slaying both sides in succession.
The blue angel is an obvious embodiment of anarchism, the political view not the stupid misconception of the word right wingers and liberals have
I've always wondered what the blue gas was - releasing the peoples inner demons? But, why? It was clear that said demons weren't a fan of the robots. :o

Commenting to remind you of this masterpiece
I might be delusional but i think the meaning of the video is about the duality of war, revolution and authority. Like the saying "only the revolution matters, until it comes to be authority". Idk might be my own political and social views translating it that way
This is very much 2 separate songs connected by the theme, and I love it. The switch half way through is perfectly timed.
In such a state, humans can become overwhelmed by our deep, primal urge to not only watch the world burn, but to actively contribute to the fire.

the transitions between the songs is smooth af
The Offspring: "It's two songs not one..."
People: "Thank you for the music but we'll take it from here :) "
Days Go By is such a painfully underrated album. Such great songs like Divided By Zero, Slim Pickens, The Future is Now, and one of my all time favorites Secrets of the Underground. If you haven't listened to Offspring in awhile, check out this album. It's a hidden gem with fantastic songs.
everything in this song is colour coded
yellow=good/slim
red =bad/red commander
blue=chaos/blue angel
orange=order/robots
gray=neutral/crowed
and I think that the gas was the robots trying to sniff out the demons in the crowed in order to kill them, and the reason it worked on slim was because the red com was fused with him by B angel.
edit: we can also possibly assume two things from the lyrics, #1: that blue angel's name is anarchy and #2: that the robots are trying to organize hell, all the demons in hell had hidden themselfs as everyone else.

Damn are you really scared of Just saying fucker please
Here's what I believe the meaning of this video is, (TL;DR at the end)
This is the inner workings of someone mentally unstable, the protagonist is Slim Pickens, the poor madlad is the representation of the person's ego, the army he is part of represents the control he has of his mind, at 1:44 the lyrics mention his perseverance and willingness to intervene with the "demon's plans", their plans are mentioned various times, on of them is right before, at 1:37, referring to his ambitions, his greed is also mentioned at 2:56, his "closing in on you" and "weighing on you" may also mean that he got his desires under control, but as is clearly seen, this war for control is taking its toll, slowing destroying him.
Your the like the offspring of a philosopher and my English teacher when we are doing poetry
(Get the joke)
Quite an interesting read you got here.
I've loved the offspring for years, and they have a ton of bangers, but I genuinely think Slim Pickens is my favourite offspring song ever
