It would be so awesome and informative if you could do a detailed comparison and explanation video about Prores Proxy, LT, 422, and HQ available for prores with the FilMic Pro app.
In this video I show the file size difference… ruclips.net/video/SHC8oVpo7dM/видео.html - which is one of the main things - higher bit rates. But I’ll include more details in future vids too.
Cool. Guess it depends on what you’re shooting, but manual control for me is really a deal breaker. Really wish you could at least set the white balance independently from the exposure and focus, that would be a big improvement.
I appreciate your content and the work that goes into it. However, I feel you should have not released this video with the issues now being fixed according to your notation, instead you should have reshot the content to show us the fixed version. At least you made it seem to me that you shot this content prior to the "fix", and instead of showing what they "fixed", you just notated it instead of re-filming. Please let me know if I have interpreted this correctly / incorrectly.
They fixed the white balance shifting issue as I demonstrated with iOS 15.1. When I recorded it I guessed that was the case, but didn’t know for sure, and then confirmed it later thus the onscreen graphic stating it was indeed resolved. So just to be clear, everything I showed in the tests was the newly fixed version. The shot I showed of the truck was the bad shot from a few weeks ago that instigated the new fix.
@@iphoneographers Ahh ok, I'm not the smartest of guys out there so I misunderstood what you meant in the video. To me it seemed as if you we saying it is fixed now, but when you did the test it wasn't. Thanks for clarifying.
All good. When I do these kind of tests I’m actually seeing it and recording it for the first time, so sometimes you learn things as you do them that you didn’t know you’d learn. I had no idea the white balance issue was fixed as it had not been publicly announced (still hasn’t that I know of besides in this video) and was very happy to see that. 👍🏻
I know you like filmic pro because of manual settings. But what about filming at night, in normal town or city environments have you the same thoughts. Good channel to watch for lots of stuff. Barry Spain 🇪🇸
Yes night time might even be more important because your phone will try to auto ISO up and so your footage can get very noisy. Using manual controls you can keep your ISO low. I always try for 100 or less but on the newer phones you can creep up to around 300 - and 400 with the latest iPhone 13 Pro (using the standard wide camera, don’t try the other ones in low light). Thanks for watching!
Why nobody specks about the app PROTAKE? It can rec also in prores 4444 1gb/s. And it has more control, like semiautomatic, stabilization in 3 different types and a lot of more.
ProTake is good. Definitely use it and have covered it some here. Lots of people don’t like subscription apps though… ruclips.net/video/2AKNvf-iyWQ/видео.html
@@iphoneographers yes I know but with PRORES 4444 and the quality of it the people can think to use it… I tell you because you can show the pros and cons of filmic and Protake… I use both of them… but in the meantime I think Protake it’s more powerful
ProRes files are the same as long as you’re shooting the same flavor, meaning HQ as that’s the only one in the native camera. In 3rd party apps you can do standard 422, LT and Proxy which have lower bit rates and thus are smaller size. ProRes compared to HEVC are hugely different though.
Can you compare prores bt 2020 in filmic pro to filmic log v3 10 bit filmic extreme? I feel like that’s a pretty good competition! Great content, btw, now that I got a 13 pro max I can’t get enough of your new videos!
I love Apple products, but this was such a bad implementation, they add a codec that takes 6gb a minute and don't provide any manual controls. They make this a large selling point, but leave out USB-C so you can actually get the footage off the phone. Lastly, the choice to go with HQ and not provide an option for LT makes zero sense. I have tested LT vs HQ and have found zero differences except it is half the size.
The ProRes HQ is for HDR reasons and Mac computers I’m told, but would be good to have options. I’ve found similar results as you, so unless you’re doing compositing or heavy grading the lower bit rate ones work well. And I have to believe (hope) the next Pro series phones will have USB-C or Thunderbolt.
As always, Thank you for another great comparison / tutorial! I have the iPhone 13 Pro Max and am looking forward to using Filmic Pro. I try to shoot in manual everything following the 180-degree rule along with using ND filters. I'm a PolarPro fan and I see that they recommend using just Wide due to Ultra Wide giving some issues due to the lens. Thanks again, appreciate all your videos!! 😊👍

The colouring on ProRes looks so smooth!
I’d sacrifice manual control over a much better image stabilization. So native app is a win for me.

Of course RUclips defaults me to 480p!

Have been considering a comparison so will take a look. Thanks
Thanks. Curious if there is a difference in file size between the 2?

Is there any free alternative to Filmic Pro? Please tell.
Not really. Most apps w pro features cost. The Moment app is less $ tho and it’s solid if you’re on iOS.

Did you try an anamorphic lens on cinematic mode yet?
I did and it didn’t work.
The stabilisation is the problem.. to bad I am paying for Filmic pro.
First!

The wide is the best camera/lens so that’s good advice for sure. Thanks for watching!
