Dolly Parton is a country music legend. She has won over two dozen Grammys. She has been nominated for two Academy Awards. She’s the recipient of the “Living Legend Award” from the U.S. Library of Congress and seven Academy of Country Music Awards. Not bad for the daughter of a Tennessee tobacco farmer. Her “rags to rhinestones” story is so fascinating, there is a history course named after her at the University of Tennessee. Dolly is a singer, songwriter, actress, philanthropist, and businesswoman. It’s hard to believe that she was voted “Least Likely to Succeed” in high school.
Dolly Parton’s songs have reached the number one spot on Billboard’s music charts twenty-five times. She owns one of the biggest and most successful theme parks in America. Dollywood gets over three million guests every year. She started her own non-profit organization with the goal of sparking young children’s love for books and reading to honor her father, who never learned to read or write. Her podcast, “Dolly Parton’s America” has been called the “Best Podcast of 2019” by Forbes magazine. With all of these milestones, it’s hard to believe that Dolly struggled with depression. She has seen her share of heartache and suffering. Especially after having an affair with Burt Reynolds. Thankfully, her dog, Popeye, was there to save her life. Through it all, she never lost her sense of humor. She said she knows some of the best Dolly Parton jokes because she made them up herself. Here is the true story of Dolly Parton.

Because humans always need to have someone to cut down and just love trying to kill someone’s dream(s). Tsk tsk.
It's very cliché, I'm sure, but my favorite song is "Jolene". Hands down.
That little girl that went viral singing this song, made it my favorite 😂🤣
I love that song too, definitely my fav!

She is loved and adored in my native South Africa.
When someone sues you for 3 million and you're still by their side at their death bed... Only Dolly the saint!
As a young boy, I love the American countryside music, because it has more voices with little instruments, just like the Benin people culture music ,Coat of many colours, becos,it personified poverty in human race, it has nothing to do with colour of tribes, nationalities, it cut across races all over the world.

Ugh y’all need to change that title. Made it seem like she passed
i know, nothing about her story is what id define as “tragic” she grew up the same way millions did during that time, and i feel its a little discouraging to call her story tragic.

How rare it is to see a young celeb nowadays who didn't come from money and/or nepotism. Dolly's story is so layered and fascinating
not so rare nowadays it was actually much more rare back then
@@user-fk8tr5ev8q it *is* rare, if you name some young relevant celebs to me i can tell you if they come from money and nepotism as it is a very fascinating subject to me. A lot of them just hide it. Like Odessa A'zion who changed her last name to not be associated with her mother who is very respected in Hollywood. Most have been rich since birth but not had celeb parents like Florence Pugh, Timothee Chalamet, Ariana Grande, Anya Taylor Joy, Ed Sheeran, etc. It is rare to find one that comes from a working class background. The entertainment world is very influence and money driven, those who have it are more likely to get ahead.

Hello Laurel....
Exactly she's wonderful
She is a boy !!
@@elsmeervd4893get a grip. It literally showed you what she looked like as a child you muppet.
I never agreed with parents having alot of children and then expecting the older ones to raise the younger ones. The fact that her mother told her her brother was her baby to be responsible for then that baby dying that could have a devastating affect on a child.
Well yeah but these people honestly didn't always know any better. My nana was born in 1929 and had to raise her younger siblings. And when my nana was in her 20s her MOM asked her how babies were actually made. She'd had 10 babies but she had to ask her daughter to explain how it worked. I don't think we can always conceive of the lack of knowledge that people in poverty (especially women in poverty) had back then (especially about anything to do with sex/health/bodies.)
@@ala-lash3710 I understand what youre saying about them not knowing the biological process. Hell many people today dont fully know that but they know sex=babies. Not knowing the process of how they are made has nothing to do with the responsibility of care once they are here. I dont think thats really a matter of not knowing better and more about an attitude of thats how it is thats whats expected to have a large family and have the older ones take care of the younger ones.
Be Free Usually it’s from farm and country culture to have a lot of kids to help with the farm. And as a cause of this, the parents would get the older kids to HELP take care of the younger ones and teach them to work on the farm. This is the same with both of my grandmothers who were raised in a family of twelve.
@@lordvoldemort5725 yes I know the reasoning behind it more hands my paternal grands were also from south and had 12 children

Em’s World I read this soon as it said i5 in the video lol
My favorite Dolly story was told by Julia Roberts about their time making the movie Steel Magnolias. Roberts said the entire cast and crew, except Dolly, were complaining about the brutal Louisiana summer heat (especially filming winter scenes in big coats!). Roberts said they were all impressed and asked why she didn't complain. Dolly explained that when she was a little girl she prayed and asked God to make her rich and a star and now that He had given that to her was she wasn't going to complain! She is a positive, faith-filled person. I also heard that she would cook for everyone.
She’s such an amazing person
She is NOT A faith filled woman a true believer would never have her busom revealed blatantly. GOD TOLD FEMALES HOW TO DRESS IF YOU ARE A BELIEVER. Elvis slid off his mother's lap in church and went up front to sing hymns with the adult choir, he never prayed to God for material things it is Graceland that still has millions of visitors from all over this world.
@@marilynwillett804 Did God tell him to take drugs, date a middle-schooler and cheat on his wife? The reality is you don't know WHAT Elvis prayed for or either's relationship with God. And Graceland is only a tourist attraction because Elvis's estate was a crap show and the house was hemorrhaging money in upkeep and taxes and the wife he cheated on and gave drugs to saved it preserve Lisa Marie's trust by making it an attraction for profit.
Tragic?
Tragic??
Tragic???
Dolly is most likely one of the greatest success stories in the world !
The love she received and then continued to give everyone who comes in contact with her is overwhelming!
Major song hits, half a billion dollars, reading book for children distributed FREELY, Dollywood... I could keep LISTING till the cows come home.
She is simply one truly remarkable but humble human being who shared her God given gifts with the World ❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤
A humble person is as scripture said; one who doesn't let their good deeds known. if you do, you already have your reward.
@@marilynwillett804 Still, I don't think Dolly Parton is helping out with billions for attention. it's hard to do such things anonymously ... and we don't know everything ... Dolly Parton can help charity privately ... and we know about public affairs (it would be difficult to do dollywood and give away books for free for one and a half billion anonymously)
There's no way that Dolly Parton could do everything she does anonymously. I think if she could do everything anonymously she would. She's strong, confident, smart and honest. My favorite Dolly song is Tennessee Mountain Home. I grew up not too far away from her hometown and I spent a lot of time there in Sevierville, Gatlinburg and the Great Smoky Mountains National Park. It's truly beautiful and beyond beautiful.
I remember one of her lines, she said, “it needs a lot of money to look this cheap”😂 that dark humor never gets old
"It TAKES a lot of money to look this cheap." Sorry, had to correct you. Love her ❤️

People are saying “I don’t think that’s such a good thing” but regardless of if you like her or not she’s still really really successful 😂 You can’t deny that. And it’s not because she’d show off her body either.
It sucks when parents have so many kids and make their older ones take care of it. Your 9 year old didn’t have that baby. Dolly is incredible for what she’s done. I can’t imagine what impact the death of a baby would have on a 9 year old held responsible
That was back when having children was your social security and they had farmland to work. That was life back then. I didn't have to take care of my sister but when I was 4 years old and she died it was extremely traumatic for me. They didn't have grief counselling back then and my parents almost lost our house because of the medical bills from her health issues. Dolly is a Strong, Faith-filled Women. God Bless her!

To those who wondering whatever happened to the baby left on Dolly Parton‘s doorstep, Dolly Parton herself does not know what happened to that child. She only tells the story with the information in this RUclips video. She says it was the craziest thing ever happened to her. She said she was ill-equipped to take on a baby at that time. She didn’t want the authorities to think she had anything to do with the child’s circumstances so she did what she thought was best and called the authorities right away. She says she often wonders whatever happened to that child but has never sought out the child and never will in the future. She also said she could not imagine treating a baby like a puppy or a kitten and Life isn’t like the movies where she could just take the child on no questions asked.
Back in those days, that happened a lot. My mom is Dolly's age and she was given away at birth.

I just finished watching... she certainly did rise up, and it never changed her. She is an absolute icon. Jolene for sure. If anyone remembers vinyl, I had a 45 of Jolene. Still love her today... great cover of her rise up
Hello Misfit....
My favorite Dolly Parton song is He's Alive
She's a phenomenal woman and she is just Dolly who show the world how to be humble and still being famous.
Dollywood theme park in Tennessee is absolutely beautiful, lots of beautiful music and shows, big rides, mountain history, and some good southern food and baking. I sound like an ad but I really enjoyed visiting there!
She's arguably one of the greatest female singer songwriters EVER!! If you go beyond the hig pop hits and listen to songs like "The Bridge" "Little Sparrow" or "Dreamin" her virtuosity becomes apparent

Hello Roxanne...
“TRAGIC” what dictionary did one get your definition from? Dolly’s life is nothing less than “Inspirational’.
She truly is inspiring 🥹💖
She’s so beautiful and seems like a genuinely sweet and kind person. Everyone experiences tough times in life but she remains so positive and her voice is amazing!
