Why do you say the Kings have a deeper team? Kings' bottom 6 are Laferriere, PLD, Grundstrom, Fiala, lizotte, Lewis have a combined total of 2 goals and 1 assist. Oilers' bottom 6 are Foegle, McLeod, Perry, Holloway, Carrick, Janmark have a combined total of 3 goals and 4 assists. None of the Oilers' bottom 6 play on the pp so you can't use special teams as a way to pad their stats. The Oilers bottom 6 straight up beat the Kings bottom 6 handedly 5v5.

We lost game 4 simply because we had no screens in front of the net. The thing I’ve seen and realized is that we never have anyone trying to screen Skinner and skinner can see every shot.

I think this was part of a possession gameplan. Keeping player along the board to win those battles, retrieve pucks, wear down the Oilers and get multiple chances with their zone time.
Edmonton on the other hand had multiple players running straight to the net with every opportunity. One or two chances, kings retrieve the puck then it's going the other way.
One strategy generates offense consistently, the other prays for a bounce or a breakdown.
Kings played their best game of this series so far, and they didn't look good.

Playing Rittich changed the dynamics of the Kings. The Oilers only managed 13 shots against LA all game long.
Kings players seemed more fucused on protecting the goalie 5 on 5.
If they can just finish s few of those 33 shots against Skinner they could take this series.

Thanks to Eddie for bringing Nick back. Obviously he's a down-to-Earth guy who shows a tremendous amount of humility. The Oilers are definitely a better team, but upsets are possible. it just takes a team to outwork their peers. I haven't really seen the Kings do that all year long. But a few players have really stepped up and nearly ready to step in/take over for the elder statesmen. I am so grateful to blake for bringing back Trevor Lewis and sense he will end up working within the organization beginning next year. AND, perhaps...we will see a buyout-even at high cost as it appears to be a standoff between earning this person's paycheck...and not giving a damn. Thanks to blake for a number of youngsters who will represent our team for years to come. And we'll always love Luuuuuuc. After canning Todd, I honestly don't care whom they choose to manage! Anyway, thanks, Eddie for selecting Nick rather than jabba the hut to share this session. I was suddenly thinking of the Oilers of 1982 as I thought of how this guy carried himself in tone. Anyway, "wait till next year"...a once famous term that became an L.A. saying-though from the Dodgers-could become our slogan for a few more years. I admit, it would be nice to get one more Cup for Kopi. I know he's one of those guys who will return to Europe when he retires. But I'm glad he came and he stayed here...for us!

Eddie, I know Akil Thomas is in playoffs with Ontario, but is there any reason why he couldn’t come up and play for Kings ? I’d sure like to see him in replacement of Lizotte, Lewis or Grundstrom. Since we are facing elimination why not try something different? At this point I wouldn’t mind seeing Kaliyev either.
Hiller saw what Thomas can do and it was certainly more than any of the players I mentioned above. So why not ?

I'm not really sure this Nick guy actually watches these games or just reads the stat lines afterward.. Kings haven't got bounces? Kings deserved Game 4, absolutely. No doubt that is the biggest bounce of all but they have 3 or even 4 goal bounces (depending on your Pom Pom allegiance) go their way. Could be argued their game 2 OT goal was a series of bad bounces. The bounce itself, the bad D change and horrible goaltending...
Even as an Oilers fan I appreciate your commentary Eddie. It's always intelligent, informed and prepared without TOO much homerisms. Even when the Oilers and Kings weren't playing I've turned this podcast on and enjoyed your takes on the Kings.

Kings did not deserve game 4. The oilers lead high danger shots at 7-4. The oilers were 1/1 on PP and PK. They also only allowed only 1 shot in the last 11 minutes and 0 in the last 6 mins. Everything was from the outside.

Yes, the same metrics have slot chances tied at 6 and scoring chances 14-5 Kings. We both know that if the Oilers had lost a game like this the whole city would be saying they deserved the win. The defensive side of this win is an Oiler outlier. Not a game they will win very often in this era. I don't remember ever seeing a game involving Connor McDavid with this low of Offensive zone time... that they've won. The shutdown they committed to in the last half of the third was absolutely insane. Hopeful they can replicate it continuously. I'm getting older, my heart can't handle too many of these one goal playoff games.

@@markh4545454 Checks out then. His views are a little askew for an attentive viewer and a few stat errors. But, if I didn't care about a team I'd have trouble paying attention to the game as well. I know when I put the Canucks game on it's just a background thing. He did correct a couple errors in the third segment.

@@whiskeyjacksvault9761 scoring chances and high danger chances on net are two completely different things. I can tell you don’t watch much Oiler hockey. No, the whole city wouldn’t be saying they deserved a win, they would be pissed off at Oilers getting 0 shots the last 6 mins. This win isn’t an outlier, they have been playing it since Kris Knoblauch took over. They went 14 straight games during their win streak where they did exactly this and allowed 2 or less. They also lead the league in wins when scoring 2 goals.

Wil Wheaton just posted this and it is SPOT ON. Please share on tomorrow's feedback Friday. Rob from Brea. "The Kings need to clean house, starting with the GM and front office, or next season will be a repeat of this garbage season, which was the most frustrating and least entertaining season I've endured in nearly a decade.
Rob Blake was a great player for the Kings. He has been a disaster as a general manager, and the Kings are going to be mid, at best, for years to come, due to his incompetence.
And I think his total failure to lead this organization comes down to two contracts: Cal Petersen and Pierre Luc DuBois. They should be hung around Blake's neck like millstones, and he should personally write letters of apology to every season ticket holder (only mildly joking, there).
I want a reporter to ask him, and Luc Robitaille, why they were the only two people in the entire NHL who didn't see what DuBois has been showing the league since he was drafted: he has genuine talent, and he doesn't use it. He coasts, he's lazy, he's selfish, he is -- by all accounts -- an absolute cancer in the locker room, he turns the puck over consistently, takes immature penalties away from the play, and drags down every single team he is part of.
None of this is a secret or should be a surprise. All you have to do is look at his numbers, take out the one season where he actually gave a sh*t, and have a very clear picture of a man who clearly does not care about playing in the NHL. If math doesn't do it for you, talk to his former teams.
Rob Blake and Luc Robitaille signed this guy for 8 years, taking up all the team's cap space that was left after Rob Blake gave a 15 million dollar contract to Cal Petersen, who immediately unplugged his controller and will maybe play in the AHL, which is a shame. I really liked that guy and wanted him to succeed.
So at the deadline, when it's painfully clear to everyone that the Kings need a goalie, they can't do anything. Because this idiot tied up all the cap space with contracts that will take their place beside Lombardi's curious choice to shovel money to Mike Richards when he had the opportunity to just release a clearly problematic player.
I sincerely do not understand how these guys can look at the same data that's available to everyone, and somehow decide that it is actually the entire league and all of the former teammates of this cancerous boat anchor who are wrong; this is the guy who will step up to 1C and lead this team to playoff success?
The Kings are a decade away from the last time they were a genuinely competitive team. Kopitar and Doughty are legends, future hall of famers, and I love them. They are not top line, top minute players any more. That's not on them, it's just math, and they can still be valuable to this team in a different role. Put Kopi at 2C, move Doughty to the second pairing, and acknowledge that their amazing careers are nearing their end. Keep them in the room, on the bench, and providing leadership for Byfield, Anderson, Clarke, Thomas, and the rest. And go find and sign a fucking NHL goalie for f*#k's sake.
None of this will happen while the old boys club is in charge. These guys are just incompetent. They have nearly torn down all of the rebuilding work we have patiently endured for a decade, and they did it when we were within a year or so of actually accomplishing it. And why? It just doesn't make sense. Why rush it when you're so close?
I hope the entire organization cleans house from top to bottom. If that doesn't happen, at the very least Rob Blake must be forced to answer for the damage he's done to this team and its chances to be competitive.
I love this team and I love this sport. I love hockey dates with my favorite human. And I think I'm sitting out most of next year, because, win or lose, this team is just not entertaining. They are boring and frustrating to watch. I love Kopitar and Doughty. I can't wait for the day their numbers are retired. But I am watching them struggle to keep up with the speed of the changing game, with no help from an overpaid, underachieving, turnover machine who doesn't give a shit about his team. I watch them lead a power play that passes around the perimeter and shoots once, a rush that dumps the puck in for one shot, no rebound, a 1-3-1 that every other team in the league has solved, and I'm tired of it.
I will always be a fan of the team, but a night out to a hockey game isn't cheap, and these guys aren't earning it from me. As long as Rob Blake and Luc Robitaille are in charge, the Kings will not be a serious organization.
If you've read this far, you probably know that my bracket is entirely blown up in both conferences (as anticipated), but I'm pulling for the Stars, in memory of Stepto, and the Rangers, because Jonathan Quick.
If you're a Kings fan, who do you want for head coach? How do you clean up Rob Blake's mess?”
