  • It’s a milestone episode of The DFO Rundown as Jason and Frank have reached episode 300 of the show. They kicked things off by talking a little bit about that before getting into the hockey talk.
    They started out in Tampa Bay where the Bolts were bounced in five games by the Florida Panthers. The big story there surrounds the future of their Captain, Steven Stamkos. He’s right near the top of Frank’s ‘Top 50 Free Agents’ list but the guys seem to think he’s going to stay put.
    That led to some talk about other big name free agents, like Golden Knights forward Jonathan Marchessault, who could be on his way out of Vegas. They also talked about some names lower down the list like Oilers defenseman Vinny Desharnais. That sparked a debate about what the definition of a true second-pairing defenseman is.
    From there, they got into the playoff talked about broke down the series that Frank is covering between the Vancouver Canucks and Nashville Predators. They also hit on the Golden Knights and Stars and the Oilers taking down the Kings for a third straight season.
    In this week’s edition of Buy or Sell, Tyler asked the guys a handful of questions relating to the coaching carousel in the NHL.
    0:00 - Welcome to The DFO Rundown
    3:00 - Stamkos’ future in TB

    If Deharnais plays in your second pair long term, the Oil will regret it. He’s 28 in less than a month. He’s not going to get that much better. They tried him with Nurse this year with not great results.

    I enjoyed the vitriol here. It caused great conversation looking at players in the league as a whole. As a blues fans with crappy d-men getting paid $6.5mil I feel the pain of overpaying underperforming talent.

      @@arthurkjr …if done before July 1st. I read an article last night about PLD that counters my suggestion- Per All Three Zones tracking, Dubois was the best on the team in passes that led to scoring chances, passes to the high-danger area, and was one of the most efficient Kings in carrying the puck with possession through the neutral zone and into the offensive zone.
      Perhaps he’d done better in a non 1-3-1 and a non rookie linemate like AL. But we can’t pander to this guy again. He needs to play big power ful fast hockey

    Sorry Gregor you are a little off on your logic here.
    Love Kulak but a 3rd pair can’t make over 2 as it puts strain on the cap. To that point saying you think big D is a value at 3 as second pair right d? Well Ceci is 3.25 as a number 4 second pair D and everyone keeps trying to run him out of town as a bad contract!

  • @W31rdG
    @W31rdG Месяц назад +1

    Maaan... after watching this, I'm even more convinced that Gregor is clueless about player assessments. The Oilers are in cap hell because they paid guys for the player they were going to be in a few years instead of the player they are today. Look at how well that worked out with Nurse? Imagine paying Desharnais $2.75M x 4 and he doesn't live up to that contract? I think in about a year or two the Oilers will have a better idea of the type of player Desharnais is going to be, so they should sign him on a 2-3 year $1.5-2M deal. If he's seeking more money they need to let him go.
    I like Hakanpaa, but I agree with Servalli. He's a third pairing D man all day long. He might be a bit underpaid, but the Stars were smart about how they dealt with his contract. That's the type of value the Oilers need to be looking for, and not overpay a third pairing D man.

    Regarding the L.A. Kings, just one thing comparing to the Oilers team. The Kings haven't had a #1 pick since 1967. Call it bettin'man cheating/controlling the draft balls, or simply the nhl having no balls and giving in to owners who's teams are in trouble...and giving them #1 picks...now many years in five did Edmonton draw #1? No more Canadian illusions. Cheating is cheating. The Kings have had at least 2-3 #2 picks over their lifetime. So, stop judging the Kings on drafting. They did have some terrific picks. The best of the best were all sent to Edmonton back around 1988 to get "the great one"-not so great for the Kings! And even blake never won anything as an L.A. King!
