Because American Bulldogs are Worker dogs. They need the flaps on their ears to help keep out bugs and stick weed when they are going through the thicket. The Breed show should match the design of said breed.
@deerdestroyer2009 wrongo. Pitbulls and american bulldogs are very closely related. Before there were established breed types for pits and american bulldogs it was extremely common for them to be interbred. They were both known as pitbulldogs back in the day. If u don't believe me look it up.
I admit that they are more similar than other dogs, but people that dont know better, more often mistake my dog as an Amstaff... But since the pitbull is a close relative to the Bulldog, I see the point you are tryin to make... I can just easily tell the difference from a pitt and an AB...

thats what I said, to you (an obviously accomplished AB owner) they look nothing alike, they dont look alike to me. but to some idiot that has only seen pics of pits in the paper on tv, when they see an AB Johnson or Std they think they are the same, I cant tell you how many people have asked me how old my Pit is, and he is pretty much all Johnson.

Woow cropped ear in Ambull. never seen before just the muzzle is to short so it looks weird but nice. and hey why not..
I am not saying wether the cut is good or not, but usually u shouldnt crop ABs ears...thats all
