Husqvarna Supermoto 701 Review - more than just a hooligan bike?

  • The 'H' word always seems to be uttered in the same sentence as supermoto, but what's the Husky 701 really like to live with and ride on real roads?.....
    I go off subject a little at 9:15 and talk about something more serious. If you didn't wait for the end credits, click here to see what The Movember Foundation is doing to help combat men's mental health problems.

    Loved this review. Thanks for the mental health reminder and sorry for the loss of someone you cared for. This is a great time to mention the Distinguished Gentleman ride that raises money and awareness for men’s mental health.

    Tony, I don't know how I missed this review two years ago but I'd like to congratulate you on yet another helpful, realistic and informative review. And please don't apologise for raising the spectre of mens' mental health. Your comments were genuine and constructive and I for one praise you for airing those thoughts and for providing a sort of comfort blanket for the more troubled amongst us.
    As always, your channel is a joy and, among other things, is a very grown-up place to be. Thank you.
    Safe roads. 👍

    Brilliant video Tony! I currently own and love my Drz400 supermoto, but I'm looking for something a little more modern and quicker! Love your review, very helpful and clear! Keep them coming my friend, also glad you spoke of men's mental health, it's very important! We all bottle things up and our love of two wheels help but doesn't fully cure our problems!
    Like you said, we need to talk to our mates!

    Good review as ever Tony, and great you spoke about mental health issues...so so many people affected directly or indirectly. And Keith Flint...what a cool guy both in music and motorcycles. Cheers, Steve

    I don't need to be a hooligan to ride it, just need to be taller. I like that type of bike but they are waay too tall for me...shame really. Kudos for mentioning the mental health stuff....just one of the things that blokes don't seem to talk about!

    • @mancavemoto
      @mancavemoto  5 лет назад +1

      Yes its a tall bike, helps a bit if you're fat ;) yep we need to lift to stigma of men talking about their emotions

      How tall are you Steven? I'm only 5'7 and I have no issues riding around on my 701. My first SM was a DRZ 400, both completely stock. Using a CBR 600RR as a daily, don't let your height stop you :)

    Don't apologise for the subject change to MH, it absolutely needs talking about. The more we talk, the more folk will feel comfortable to talk about it.
    Great to see a review of a different style bike too, I'd love one of these as a '2nd bike' to my Explorer. 👍

    Thank you for the review and thank you for the mental health illness discussion. I agree wholeheartedly with everything you said regarding mental illness and seeking help. No doubt seeing this has helped someone or those who love someone suffering. Back to the review, I love singles for all the reasons you mentioned. I agree they are rarely a bike you would own solely but they are massive fun. I had a 630 when BMW owned Husky for a brief minute and loved it and still miss it today. But it was bugbear re maintenance and that is why I moved on from it. It seems KTM's investment in Husky is panning out, I still follow the Husky boards and rarely see complaints of the nature I had re the new Huskys. Love the site. Love all the additional commentary you provide re things outside motorcycles as they are topical and you approach it all in a sensible manner. Keep it going. Massive thank you.

    I learned to ride on dirt bikes when I was 13 and didn’t get my road license until my late 30’s, because I really wanted a supermoto - so my first ‘road’ bike was Yamaha WR450F SM. The love affair didn’t last long though, I wanted to go further afield and couldn’t afford more than one bike, so I bought a BMW R11S and never looked back.
    The 701 & 690 SMR do tug at the heart strings though, but I’m getting too old for those kind of shenanigans and I think I’d look like I was just ‘borrowing’ my sons bike, at my age 😂
    Also, we ride on the same lanes, Tony 👍
    All the best,
    Andy 🏴󠁧󠁢󠁥󠁮󠁧󠁿

      Cheers Andy, I know what you mean, its a great bike, but for me it would need to be part of the 'collection'. Maybe I'll see you out and about someday?

    Good review again Tony. I have the Nuda 900R & it’s wayyyyy beyond my ability but that’s between you & me🤭 And mate you don’t have to apologise for talking about depression & or suicide. There’s not too many in our society who hasn’t been affected directly or otherwise. As you simply put it TALK!!! Anyway all the best from Oz👍🏼😎

    I too am torn between the svartpilen 701 and the fs701. Just got hold of a Blackbird for touring and figure a sporting single for fun. Test rode svartpilen 701 and came away thinking svartpilen 401 would be more chuck able. Now they're discounting 2019 fs701 I think it's the most likely. Hope I can get on a demo

      1990 Absolutely perfect for that, whenever I’m abroad, I tell my wife how much of a shame it is, that the bike is at home. I can’t think of a better bike for those roads.

    I was going to comment on the bike but Men's mental health...Yeah. I can talk ad nauseam about this both professionally and personally but believe me, men get it a lot harder in terms of support from friends and professionals alike.
    I wonder if the enduro version ( If it's not too tall ) would replace my CRF250L. It's a shame that the 450L was so focused really. It's what you said about being able to cruise, I can do a 90 mile trip but only 20 miles of those may be on the green lanes so lots of road riding between them with a lower geared 250. I have tried the XE, AT and the T7 but I can't say any of those made me want to rush down a green lane and drag them over a fallen tree lol!

    • @mancavemoto
      @mancavemoto  4 года назад

      Exactly, there needs to be more support and guys just need to open up. I got a call on Monday to tell me a friend took his own life last weekend, that’s really brought it home again.
      The enduro is a great looking bike, but pretty tall. The crf45OL is detuned compared to the MX bike, but it’s pretty pricey here in the UK.

    • @I_am_Thursday
      @I_am_Thursday 4 года назад

      Yep. And actually worse than the 250 on the road I've been told. Maybe the supermoto with some 50/50s on would do the trick. I find I prefer to ride those single lane back roads more and more nowadays and a light bike is better for ditching in a hedge when some wag in a white 4x4 comes flying around the corner.

    Excellent City errand runner, I had Rottweiler Performance un-cork mine, its wicked fast for a 701, i love how light the bike is. Build quality is excellent. Bike will do 120mph no problem, its nuts. I put the Husquverna rear storage carrier . This throws off the cops into thinking its a slow bike
