Four years ago when Sark began Year 1 for Texas, Texas had a losing year. That sucked but he was laying down a foundation and Texas has been getting better and better with each passing year. Keep the faith Aggie faithful, you all are going to finish this year with a winning record in Year 1! You have a heck of a Coach that seems perfect for your program and culture. Your program is on the way up! It just takes time to put in place all the pieces you need to build something sustainable.

I think, as Aggie fans, we need to temper our expectations. The Aggies have always been anywhere from eight to ten wins (including the bowl game) per season. Keep expectations low and allow the team to exceed said expectations.

Elko will have some elite defenses at A&M. He can really recruit defense. I think Marcel Reed is gonna be a really good QB. A&M's future is bright and makes me nervous as a Texas fan. I'm so glad to get this game back on the schedule. Really good take, Drew. Honest and reality from an Aggie fan is very refreshing. When Texas was bad for the better part of the last 15 years, I admit it. Look for some great matchups between these schools over the next few years.

Enjoyed the recap. I think you did a great objective breakdown given how disappointing this is for the Aggies. I was really surprised, especially after watching the Auburn OTs and the play calling there vs that late 4 plays down on the goal line. Like let Marcel run an RPO or 2. Stretch out the Longhorn defense. At least try something different. At that point though our D was so locked in they would have probably crushed anything. But to your point, from a score perspective the Aggies were always in that game. See y'all next year in Austin.

Lots of thoughts after this game. The outcome wasn't a total surprise though I didn't expect the offense to get totally shut out. Success doesn't come easy and I think we saw with past coaches that when it does come easy, it leaves all the same like in the Manziel years. I also appreciate that the coaches want to be aggressive, but this was definitely the game to get points on the board during 4th and 1 instead the turnover on downs let Texas control the pace of the game all day and didn't force Ewers into having to put more points on the board which looked like their most vulnerable point on offense.
I think things get better as Marcel matures and Elko gets to build on the culture that was started this year. I also have to point out that even Sark took a couple of years to get Texas to its current status and unfortunately it just so happened that Texas joined the SEC and restarted the rivalry game when they are on a high note and we are rebuilding after the Jimbo years. Sucks but hopefully fixable.

Really fair viewpoint on the game. I think in the 4th, you’ve got to go for the TD and not take the FG.
That’s likely your best chance to get the TD as you’ve not done anything on arguably the best defense in the country.
The game as you hinted at, likely should have ended like 35-3 or something like that.

Longhorn fan. Your defense made the turnovers to keep Texas from scoring. Even scored with a pick six. Blocked punt also. Besides that the Longhorns completely dominated. Ewers made a questionable pass even without the tip on the pick six. Then he tried to do so much and fumbled. A& M took advantage of these to get the turnovers at least. The. 4th and 1 at the end of the game. The best choice was to go for it. Maybe some type of option outside with the QB would have been a better call. The RBs had no chance on the plays that were called.

Klein pulled a guard on the 1ft line. That is such a bad football decision from a scheme standpoint vs a goal line gapped up look it's hard to even rationalize a reason he thought that was a good decision. I thought 3rd and 6 speed option into the boundary vs Auburn was his worse play call. Nope this was. He has a horrible tendency to needlessly pull linemen when it doesn't help the play develop. He has a very heavy tendency of running the ball into the boundary. He doesn't attack the middle of the field and Texas knew that and voided the middle of the field daring us to attack it and we never did. Coach Klein is fairly young and hopefully if he is still here next year he does a lot of self scouting and progresses as a play caller.
Defenses main issue is we are stuck in the weak eagle 4-2-5 front. Which means we are going to try to defend a run game of 7 guys with 6... that is a hard ask against a talented team and our adjustment this season was to make the weak safety step up and fill (didn't work vs south carolina). If we are going to be a 4-2-5 defense without too many adjustments ..... then we need to go find an Antonio Johnson type to player... that can fill the "Star" position. This year we didn't have one... so we played a 4-2-5 with a true nickel and the issue there is...... a true cover nickel isn't going to be able to play the C gap like a sam linebacker vs a pro set... We had BJ try to do that last night and that's just not fair to that kid ... to ask him to do something he wasn't recruited to do. So we are either going to have to adjust the scheme to fit our personnel better or find a player in the portal, high school, or develop one this offseason who can fit that missing position. Every good team we played attacked the nickel and the weak side run because of our inability to bump the backers weak since they had to play strong side run... because the nickel was pass first in responbility. Once teams found that inflexiblity they made us pay for it over and over.

The problem isn't the playcalling. The problem is that Reed cannot throw the ball accurately past 15 yards. He is NOT a dual threat quarterback as he can only throw short passes and run the ball. The longhorns kept him in the box and mitigated his running. They should have put Weigman in. He at least would have given them a chance. Weigman might have taken a few sacks but he would have also made some deep passes. The TAMU receivers were getting separation and open but Reed couldn't make those passes. Also, now that everyone knows Reed can't throw accurately, other teams are going to game plan accordingly next year. This team is talented and can win it all but they need a better quarterback. The same goes for UT. Ewers sucks and is easily baited into bad decisions. They need to go all in on Arch Manning. Ewers is going to get them destroyed against Georgia and if they make it into the CFP they will be 1 and out with sorry Ewers.

Thanks, Drew. This game was more frustrating than any game I can remember. So many mistakes and missed opportunities. Ugly... so ugly. Oh well. Life goes on.
tu is really good, but Ewers is not elite. He crumbles under pressure.

I disagree with “a game they have no business being in”. Texas was favored by 4.5 points. “No business being in” = a double digit spread, not 4.5 points…..
