What I have generally seen people do for live type settings is to sit in front of a white wall or a purpose built setup with a curved bottom (so no corner) and then just over light the background so it overexposes relative to your subject. This works if you can put a bit more space between you and the background but it doesn't work if there are significant shadows in there, like a loosely hung cloth.
