    Great tips, As far layering clothes being unethical. What's unethical is asking me to pay 40 dollars to carry my own bag on the plane then cramming me into a 17 inch seat, which airlines already know is too small for the Average American body, that's unethical. Which the FAA has now ruled it being a safety issue because seats are too tight for exiting a plane in an emergency, now that's unethical.

    Great tips! To add onto the packing cube tip, if you don’t want to spend $30+ on compression packing cubes to “cinch la ropa”, you can just use gallon size zip-locks! Just stuff your clothes in there and sit on it as your closing it. This will kinda vacuum seal it and save a ton of space. Plus, since they’re clear, you can always see everything!

      It might be your bag but it's THEIR plane and THEIR fuel. Nothing unethical about you paying for a service voluntarily. Want your bags done for free? Fly another airline...and pay the cost anyway in the higher ticket price.
      Every bag you carry is another dozen pounds or so the plane has to carry. Times that by 100 or 150 and that's an extra 1,200 to 1,800 pounds the plane has to carry, therefore burning more fuel and costing the airline extra. Not to mention the labor of the people who check your bag, load your bag, unload your bag, and make sure you get your bag back. You're paying extra for getting extra services.

    A tip I use as a professional photographer in planes that minimize baggage is using travel vests. Packing several camera bodies and three or four lenses plus a small laptop is easy. Once on the plane the vest can be worn, put overhead, by your feet or moved into anther deflated bag. Think of the amount of stuff that can be placed in a vest and worn onto the plane. The vest can easily go through TSA also

This time I need to bring a bunch of mostly clothes back home, but don't want to pay to check a large empty bag going there. Bought an inexpensive ($15.) large duffel bag which is foldable. Weighs 1 lb and folds into itself so small could fit int a medium size pocket. But will hold a ton of stuff for the return flight. If you were only getting stuff for a single flight sure, but I'm planning on using the items for 10-20yrs so it will more than ballance out. Hi Project Untethered
    Just came across your channel whilst having breakfast. I lived in The Philippines for close to five years and would travel between my birth city, Perth (Aus) and Manila (PH) several times a year. Most stints were less than a week so I would rarely take a check in bag. I had several options for LCC (Low Cost Carriers: Air Asia, Cebu Pacific Air, Jetstar or Scoot) so would only pay for the 7kg hand carry which was included in the basic no frill fares. Your tips displayed, I used the majority of them but one you did not mention was using a carry on bag that is strong yet has very little weight. That can save you 0.5-1kg which can be used for extra content. I would use an zipable ecobag which can easily be moulded due to its soft material to fit the dimension requirements with ease.

    United, Frontier, and JetBlue also changes for carryon bags. There personal size item is smaller than Spirit.
    United: 9x10x17 = 1530
    Spirit: 8x14x18 = 2016
    There are other airlines that also charge for cary on bags, so it's best to check ahead because they charge an outrageous fee at the gate, so all the money saved on the ticket goes right out the window. Plus it's not a fun way to start a trip with a $50 cary on bag fee. Those fees also vary, so it's better to know the rules.

I gladly volunteered the bag. I will tell security, just be careful baby pooped. It worked for ten years 😂😂 Anyway, nice video learning lots of tips. Not used to these budget carriers. I’ve never had a problem pre-COVID “sneaking” a larger than personal size item on the plane with me - I just flew to NYC earlier this week and boy have they cracked down! I had a bag that fits the personal item size and had a crossbody sling bag over my shoulders that I was going to put my coat over when the line got shorter - well, Ms. Carry On Patrol woman was already 3/4 down the line. Our flight completed boarding late due to the number of people who had to pay - some only had cash. Unfortunately I was running late and could not fit my little toiletries bag is my personal bag so clipped it onto my cross body - that didn’t fly - literally 😂 - had to pay $98 😡 will definitely plan better next time! Many times I would tie several sweatshirts around my waist and after I went through security I would buy something to drink in the gift shop and ask if they had a bag large enough for the sweatshirts. Spirit must have assumed I bought a bunch of stuff at the gift shop since I had a gift shop bag and walked right on with my personal item. I love the suggestions of cinch bags and turning a Fanny pack around under jacket! Live and learn 😂

    • @ProjectUntethered
      @ProjectUntethered  2 года назад +6

      Hmm that’s a good question. I wonder if your best bet is to just find a personal item-sized suitcase that already comes with wheels. That said, realistically it shouldn’t be on your shoulders for that long. If you get to the airport early, just sit down and take it off until you’re ready to check in. And if you have to wait in a big line, just set it on the ground and scootch it with your foot
