You can travel "forever" in warm countries with just a cabin bag. Did it for a good year. At some point you get it down to a science. The thing I hate is the stress at security with my Victorinox knife. They can alllow it. Or not. I used to hide it in the middle of a mess of cables. Things I would recommend: universal sink plug, headlamp, sleep mask, alum stone (deodorant), a few meters of paracord, a bit of gaffer tape, nylon fishing line, needle, a pen, every gadgets USB rechargeable (USB C as much as possible). If you're into fitness: elastic bands, skipping rope, pocket suspension kit. Also a reminder I already posted below one of your videos, it's not so much about the weight but the size. Make your bag as compact as possible and you can add a few kilos. My bag was only weighted once. Had to pay a supplement.
@@r3dp1ll Agreed, after 8 months flying around this year with 30L, I did a test and left that 30L with a friend in Dubai and actually managed to just use my Matador freerain 22L for a full month in Palawan with a YogaBook 9i (which is dual monitor with external keyboard)... So yeah. Plus I had water shoes, normal shoes, flip flops, battery banks, a relatively large toiletry kit with ifak, a 12ft laptop cable, and 1w worth of clothing... So it didn't feel like I was missing anything at all. I did also have a Belroy 6L to be fair. As a general rule, if my bag can do 1w, I can do unlimited weeks.

I pack personal item only for most flights. Occasionally, the area under the seat is also power or something the entire plane needs, and I have to hoist it above. My strategy is pack for a week and plan laundry. And use the largest bag that fits at your feet. (I’ve got a choice of two, lol) Three pair of fast dry undies. Wear, dry and an extra just in case of high humidity.
My standard is one carry-on that potentially fits under the seat rather than necessarily using the overhead. I wear black jeans and bring one other pair of pants, I pack three solid t shirts and wear a comfortable button up shirt and bring a weather appropriate but nice jacket. I will fit in well enough in most cities and have traveled as long as a month with this utilizing either hotel laundry or coin operated laundry as needed. One pair of semi dressy looking but comfortable walking shoes. If I buy a bunch of stuff I can buy a cheap suitcase at my destination and check it on the way back.
Excellent, that's the way to go! But I'm just wondering why do you carry flipflops with you to any hot country where you could get them at any corner for less than 5 bucks or so?
That’s a good point! I’d say the main reason was because they fit. If I needed to pack more outfits, they would be one of the first things to leave behind. That said, once you arrive, you’d still need somewhere to buy the flip flops you bought (unless you hooked them to your carabiner).
@tUntethered Oh yes, totally agree, comfort rules! And yes totally true, if you travel also at your destination country you would need some way to transport what you purchased there only ... Just got little bit curious whether you have any surprising reason to carry these specific ones, means something like they are your lucky footwear for gambling, or you have medical reasons (like e.g. cutouts in there which would help against heel spur or plantar warts), or whatever else might lead to the decision to carry your personal flipflops with you ;-) In fact I get always little bit curious seeing flipflops in somebody's luggage since my first (bigger) rucksack travel with my wife, more than 4 decades back. We had one rucksack (on my back) plus one haversack (carried by my wife) for a three months travel through Nepal and India, and of course we tried our best to minimize the load, but yes, along with everything else we thought is a must to transport we had two pairs of flipflops with us. They took quite a lot of volume (and had surprisingly also quit some weight), but we felt they are necessary not only for having showers in hostels but also for going to beaches and generally for staying in a hot climate etc. Then one of the first things we noticed after arrival in both of the countries was, that you can get such flipflops in Nepal as well as in India literally at every corner, for a fraction of the price we paid in our country ... 🤣 Second thing we noticed some while later: most of the time there, we weren't even wearing anything else but these flipflops, and finally carried our "good" shoes in the rucksack ... 🤣🤣 I've solved that topic meanwhile by only wearing a pair of Crocs. I know that isn't something for everybody as they are ugly and so on, but for me they are simply the best solution. They are extremely comfy, good for air, road and (most) offroad, as well as for having a shower in a seemingly not so fine bathroom somewhere out there 😁

That’s good to know that they sell them everywhere in Nepal! I’m going trekking there in a couple weeks and want to pick up some crocs to wear at the tea houses to rest my feet. My only Nepal experience dates back to 1983 and I didn't go again since then, so I have no actual intelligence from that country, sry ... In India, you can get Crocs at many places, usually you'll find originals in any huge shopping malls (or on amazon dot in). Also cheap chinese copies available everywhere ...
Family of four, and we did a 2 week trip to France (4 cities, travel by train) with just carry on luggage + personal item. Caveat here is that we flew Air Canada, where they are typically quite lenient with the interpretation of "personal item". With that said, the carry on always fit into the measuring thingie, and our "personal item" aka backpack easily fit under the seat. We brought some detergent and fabric softener sheets, and I intentionally booked a hotel/apartment with a washer/dryer for our approximate midway point. We did all carry on again when we went to Galveston for an 11-night cruise. Ship had self-serve laundry so it was pretty easy to travel light. I even packed a sport jacket.
@@ProjectUntethered Some of the things are similar to you. Lots of lightweight clothing, versatile enough to mix and match. Use compressible cubes/vacuum bags for socks/underwear/sweaters. And really comfortable shoes, since you're only going to have those and maybe some sandals. A big thing for us was liquids. I'm good with whatever the hotel gives me. My wife and teenage girls though... not so much. But bringing enough product for 2 weeks on a plane with just carry-on is still a bit tricky. I know there's a grey area with this, but we found it easier to go to a local grocer (Carrefour in France, Target/Walmart in the US) to get normal-sized bottles of conditioner/bodywash (they insisted on specific shampoos). For us, the liquids are pretty much done by the time the trip is over, so it works out well for us.
@kevwwong that sounds like a smart plan to me! I’m the same - I use whatever soap is available, but Day has her special shampoo and creams. I don’t envy light travel as a woman!
Is your travel towel actually absorbent? I bought a similar-looking REI camping towel but gave up on it after a couple of trips because it just seems to move water around on my skin instead of absorbing it. PS. Would love to see a woman's version too!

For me at my age I probably won't carry more and have a checked bag at least with extra clothing in it also I usually wear sweats you don't recommend sweats and jeans what are your takes on those
No need for four pairs of socks and underwear. Just two or maybe three at most. Maybe two shirts with a collar. No shorts. Just take less, that's the key. Practice. Experiment. Less is more. More ease, more comfort.
