    Very straightforward and step-by-step explanation on starting character creation. I will definitely recommend for others to watch this prior to creating their characters.

    So glad I found this. I've been wanting to get into D&D forever, but the learning curve can seem like a steep cliff. Thank you very much for taking the time to make this series.

    Have you though of splitting your arcane focus. I know it sounds odd but what if each trinket was an focus of a spell or group of spells. How I used this was with a kobold wizard (Master scribe template). He was originally trained by a wizard trapped in a cave in that saw the spark of magic in him and wanted his add in food and possible freedom. The Wizard gave him a pair of glasses that were once magical but broke in the cave in and told him that they were magic so he could see magic and read magic with him, Slate the kobold lore master thought for years that they were how he read magic but it was just a focus for his own magic. Just a though to keep a cool concepts from being lost to a the momentum of change.

    Hey! Just wanted to say I love the videos and they have helped me out quite a bit. I plan to get a group of friends who I grew up playing D&D with together for a campaign and your videos have been encouraging me to step out more into being our DM. I have been playing D&D on and off for almost 12 years now and I have only been in one dedicated group that lasted from Level 1 to level 8. Longest game I was ever a part of and only real ongoing game too. I hope to break the curse for me and my friends when I start DMing.
    How ever I was wondering what you used for the character sheet. I liked how you just click in what section and type away without having to adjust font or anything. So if you could help me out that would be great!
    OH and happy gaming! ;D

    the initial creation of my hero is usually not the issue i face. big choices to make at level 3 are my current issue
    what type of warrior do i become (BM vs Champ for example)
    what oath do i pick (paladin choices are tricky and interesting)
    and more styles that come on level3
    its tricky as i usually have an idea for race and background, but classes and variations within classes are tempting and harder for me.

    • @IamMcBobb
      @IamMcBobb 9 лет назад

      I'm the same. I'm playing Bard in my friends up-coming campaign and I'm dreading level 3. The two choices you get are pretty different so it's a big step. I suppose when you're playing your way up you'll find a style you like before you have to make the choice, and it'll be easier once you've actually played a couple encounters.

      Essentially i picked the classic mode for Paladin for it suits my party best. i just want to know how aFistfulofDice handles the (pretty big) level 3 impacts on these classes

    I've never understood why everything says start with the race. I've only ever done that once, every other time I start with the class and choose a race second.

    Hey man. I just started following your channel. Anyway, I'm a PF player and GM and have been looking at 5e. Do you think it's worth getting in to as an easier means to get others into tabletop?

    • @aFistfulofDice
      @aFistfulofDice  9 лет назад +3

      ***** I do think that 5E is easier and more intuitive than 3.5/PF. However, it's up to you to decide what you think is best for your players. Check out my review of the basic rules for a more in-depth look: ruclips.net/video/02OhTFXzvQg/видео.html

      Oh okay thanks, I've found a few but they're all really overcomplicated. Do you think you'll be doing a video on cross-classing? Really love the hero workshop series and the video on the 5 room dungeon thing :-) Also do you think you could maybe do a video on random enounters on the road? Thanks, and keep up the good work :-D

    i watched your video on the human elf and orc races coming from the one race, and i just thought, can orcs and elves not breed due to how seperate they were made?

    • @aFistfulofDice

      Patrick Ryan
      In my game, elves and orcs can breed. So half-orcs can have either human blood or elven blood.

    First time ever looking into D&D. I want to stick to D&D Lore for the most part, but I want to make a Kuo-Toa'n character, which isn't listed as a PC race. How would one go about making a custom race based on existing Lore and keep it balanced? And is custom Sub-Races a thing? I want to really invest in my character and every time I bring up the sheet it's like trying to pik a fight with someone twice my size... it's a bit intimidating, lol.

    • @sabliath9148
      @sabliath9148 7 лет назад

      My best suggestion for creating a custom race would be to examine the stat block for the chosen creature (Kuo-Toa in your case) in the Monster Manual. see which ability scores are highest, and use those as the ones the player race version will get bonuses to. Here's an example using Kobolds: www.giantitp.com/forums/showthread.php?371508-Playable-Kobolds! (Open the spoiler tabs on the first post)

    • @aFistfulofDice

      There are no official rules for being a half-demon, but there are tieflings, which are devil-blooded humanoids.

  • @AnoAssassin

    Since I have to always be DM'ing I'm going to make a npc to help the Players in combat so I won't get frustated for never getting to fight and stuff... A former Rogue now a Druid chaotic good?

    • @aFistfulofDice
      @aFistfulofDice  9 лет назад +1

      AnoAssassin I would be careful with doing a DM PC. Controlling a longtime party member AND DMing can lead to problems.

    • @AnoAssassin
      @AnoAssassin 9 лет назад

      aFistfulofDice He'll only fight. No checks or anything

    • @aFistfulofDice
      @aFistfulofDice  9 лет назад +1

      AnoAssassin Then I have to wonder - why include a character whose only purpose is to fight? What if your players ask him to do other things? You control the monsters in fights - I'm curious why you feel like you need a character too.

    • @AnoAssassin
      @AnoAssassin 9 лет назад

      aFistfulofDice Only two players. They didn't beat sh*t so I decided to give them a combat boost. Like Puffo the Macho in Heroes of Awesome. Also players can give him commands, but he is inautonomous in all other things than combat

    I have a hard time accepting Tieflings, and Dragonborn as core races. To me people born with draconic, or infernal blood should be rare, and special. A Dragonborn dockworker, or a Tiefling housewife makes these amazing hybrids seem so mundane.

    • @elduxarino1097
      @elduxarino1097 9 лет назад +1

      FeyScribe Honestly they are still intended to be exotic. They are not listed in alphabetical order with the rest but at the end of the races with a paragraph about being rare in most worlds.
      As a DM I don't allow more than 1 exotic race without some discussion. I also make it so Dragonborn are not of draconic bloodline but simply reptilian humanoids. Tieflings are also part of an ancient human subgroup that was transformed by a dark pact with [insert devil of lore specific to my setting]. Sicne the fall of the empire they are rare and nearly extinct and unlikely to be a simple house wife.

    Can i be a full orc

    • @leratoecon4547
      @leratoecon4547 8 лет назад

      +CreeperSlayer You can't not be full orc. You either go full orc or no orc. There is no life without orc. Orc is love. Orc is life. Try orc once and you will never go back to no-orc again or we'll refund. Orc. Simple is genius.
