    Personally, I let my players take the background equipment as well as rolling gold. The things they get aren't game breaking, and things like the Urchin's map and such still add the flavor I think the characters can use for great roleplay.

    a lot of good informative stuff that I was having trouble finding elsewhere. It wasn't too hard to understand and it still felt like it covered everything
    thanks so much!

    How'd you get this PDF to work? I can't type on my character sheet PDF.

    You misread a couple rules that might confuse people:
    Mountain dwarf proficiencies@ 6:52, see PHB pg20
    Two weapon fighting @ 8:56, see PHB pg 195
    I'm not sure that you're interested in that kind of feedback, but there it is in case you are. ^___^

    Your Wizard also needs a Spellbook to know any spells other than your immediately prepared spells, and to learn new spells as you level up. You also can't use Arcane Recovery without a Spellbook. Spellbooks are 50Gp. Just a thought! :)

      He would start with one for free. Page 114 of the players handbook "at 1st level,you have a spellbook containing six 1st-level wizard spells of your choice." :)

      Adrastus Darke Astute observation! You're absolutely right!

      I do mention the spellbook in the next episode on magic - I was not aware I needed to buy one, however. Thanks for the clarification!

      aFistfulofDice I was wrong, Adrastus Darke pointed out that every Wizard starts with a Spellbook in their possession. To quote, "At 1st level, you have a spellbook containing six 1st-level Wizard spells of your choice."

      Kevin von Feldt Adrastus Darke Awesome! Thanks guys. That's what I thought, but wasn't sure. I appreciate you clearing it up.

    Hey, I was just wondering if you could answer a question for me? If I want to start creating a character is it worth my while buying the D&D Starter Set, or should I just look at the Basic Rules for free and save my money and just buy the Players Handbook? If you could tell me I would really appreciate it. Thanks for all the awesome videos man.

    • @aFistfulofDice
      @aFistfulofDice  9 лет назад +1

      CarlD207 There are no character creation rules in the Starter Set, so go with the Basic Rules. :)

    the electrum are still in in circulation in forgotten realms. DMG talks about it some.

    • @sakisaotome6753
      @sakisaotome6753 6 лет назад

      Daniel Montoya yeah, there are, I believe, like 2 or 3 major cities that really love electrum. In one of those cities, i think the DMG says that it is the primary currency surplanting even gold. I think, the city minted electrum is actually worth a little more in that city than the standard value of electrum coins. So it's not really apt to compare it to Roman coins it's more like the American $2 bill. Its not very common but it's still legal tender.

    I have to review this again but I seem to recall that a silver piece is equivalent to a common persons daily wage. In which case the copper piece will act as the subdivision unit of common currency similar to the American dollar and cents. Although with a silver bring equivalent to a days wage the value of copper is with far more than comparison to cents might imply.
    So if we say a silver is a days wage and compare it to modern currency it would be like a day's rage at minimum wage Which in the US is about $60 add of 2018. Therefore a copper would be about $6. Conversely that would mean that gold would be about $600 electrum $300 and Platinum $6000.
    Though to keep it in perspective a candle cost 1cp while a blanket or common clothing are 5sp each! So if a blanket cost you about a weeks wage that $6000 comparison for the pp may not be that accurate. It may in fact be with a worth a lot more in practical terms. I actually seem to remember hearing, though it could be quite wrong, that a gold piece is about a year's wage for a peasant.
    So maybe to compare to modern currency we should imagine it more like the old 1e model, I think, where each monotary denomination was 100 to one instead of 10 to one.
    So using that comparison a gold is about 6000 which still seems low and a platinum 600,000? A cp Would then be about $.60. somehow that doesn't feel right either.

      Oh I see my problem. In 5e an unskilled worker, ie a peasant, is paid 2 sp/day. This actually doesn't do much to give us a relatable comparison.
      So I did a quick search online and found someone who needs to have the real life elements of the game make sense for their sense of immersion. That is actually kinda helpful. He did a lot of work so I'll just link to his work which does a really great job considering what was provided to us via the phb and DMG doesn't really try to make sense of things.

    another question I have is action points, I saw on twitch someone was able to do three actions, also the whole 24 hour cooldown on spells thing is kind of stupid

    • @aFistfulofDice
      @aFistfulofDice  6 лет назад

      Certain classes get additional attacks, or bonus actions. But typically you get one action and one move action.
      Also, it's not 24 hours. You just have to rest to regain spell slots. You also have no limit on the number of cantrips you can cast.

    Didn't you need to buy Ammo?

      You need to buy arrows and such. You can run out of them.

    • @aFistfulofDice
      @aFistfulofDice  7 лет назад

      Depends entirely on your DM. Some would require you to spend a gold piece on some ammunition -- others (like myself) don't bother with it.

    Dampf Feuer?
    Hmm... This is German! :-) But it makes no sense in German! :-(
    Dampf is Steam!
    Feuer is Fire!

      The character is a blacksmith, so he would have steam and fire based backstory. He would be crafting.
