Hi All. I am a self-taught beginner concertina-er based in Melbourne Australia.
Hayden duet system being quite scarce to find, I am keen to learn from fellow duet players around the world and also happy to share what I have found so far, if anyone is interested in duet concertina.
This made me buy the concertina featured. It is every bit as tuneful as the video shows. It is quite hard to learn the keyboard system, and the buttons are quite small and close together, but I am sure I will be rewarded with perseverance.
definitely a good buy.
Really glad that the video helped your decision to buy. Definitely your perseverance against "Hard Times" will compensate and it won't take too long and hopefully your muscle memory builds up quickly.
I don't feel like the keyboardsystem is hard to learn. it's arranged like piano white keys and the black are on the side in right order. So for me it was very intuitive. Plus chords are so easy to play with this layout. But yeah the buttons are very small and close together. I will look forward and buy me a Stagi in the next few years
@@Beliar_VR I have mastered the scales now, but after Anglo playing it seemed hard. Have you tried English concertina? That really is a challenge.
@@lawriemorritt3492 no, i haven't tried Angelo because i bought Hayden Duet for a reason. I need chords and sometimes melody over it, cause i used it for singing. Concertina is also smaller than bandeon or accordion in purposes of transportation.
Sweetest concertina I have heard for a long time. So many instruments have a harsh sound, too stringent. Lovely playing
Thanks for your sweet message!
I think it has a thing to do with the system too.
Hayden system is Unisonoric so despite some downsides, the player has more control in avoiding unwanted push/pull shift (=unwanted articulation=harshness) in a section/note that needs to be soft.
The sound is very sweet indeed. I think it must be however noted that these are accordion reeds, not concertina ones.
@@terenceannarelli1927 To buy a concertina that matches that tone, you would have to pay big money. I have a number of concertinas, and none of them can produce that deep ringing sound
@@terenceannarelli1927 Good to know and thanks for your input. I saw from the Elise spec, that they are accordion reeds but I can't compare anyway since I haven't experienced concertina reeds myself.
I have the Elise...
I'm completely in love with it!! She's not to pretty but she sings like an angel....
I love my Elise too. Within known limits, It does all I want to do perfectly. Yet I am not utilising even 30% of what it can offer. I honestly think the price is a steal.
@@MinimumListenableProduct I completely agree.....when the time comes to up the ante on an upgrade, I will not be trading this one in.... she's a keeper.!! Good luck my friend and I will look forward to hearing from you again!!
I find I have to play with low pressure on the keys, because some notes have an excessive tinny vibration when played loud. Possibly the reeda are just catching the sides of the frames. If the reeds were held in by screws I could easily fix this, but I am not game to mess around with riveted reeds. Easy to do irreparable damage.
