    I just bought one of these monsters yesterday and am here to share a bit of a hack and review. This is my signal path: Guitar-tuner-mini wah-Overdrive-(input of amp)-send out to EQ pedal-Noise Suppressor-reverb-delay-(dly out) to Seymour Duncan Powerstage 700 input-SMPS700 out to 2x12 cab. With this rig setup I have a tube preamp running through two sources of post EQ and have 700 solid state watts of power. I cut the base with the EQ pedal and slightly boost the mids, then I can sculpt further using the PowerStage eq. This thing rips with this configuration.

  • @usmcyounggun6879
    @usmcyounggun6879 2 года назад +2

    For the price I think I may pick one of these up because I could use it with a 2x12 as traditional amp And cab, or since it has an effects loop I could run my headrush gigboard into the return and it would be a great power amp for a multi fx since it’s so compact and portable. And I love the new upgrades with the 2 channels, separate EQ’s and footswitch.

  • @wmxx2000

    It's weird, listening to them solo'd I think I might either eq in some high end or add a treble boost of some kind to the zoMBie. As far as the full mix it doesn't seem as noticeable.

    • @nyalarhotep
      @nyalarhotep 3 года назад +1

      Probably impossible, Joyo has much smaller headroom, hence much wider sound of Mesa both in low and high end. Plus, adding that preamp only put Joyo in disadvantage, because of aforementioned headroom. I am 100% certain Joyo can sound much closer to rectifier than seen in this vid. Less gain, no preamp boost, some pre EQ for that "V" shape of sound.

Honestly, for the price, it seems like a phenomenal piece of gear. If you're looking for a 1-to-1 reproduction of the Dual Rec tone, then no, but for less than $200 this gets you in the ballpark and sounds great. Listening to solo I hear a rumble in the Zombie that the Mesa doesn't have. I own a Zombie I and have a hard time fighting that rumble with dynamic EQs etc., maybe I need to switch to a Mesa to avoid that in the first place. :/

  • @emilcom
    @emilcom 3 года назад

    Really good comparison. I think boosted they sound pretty alike. Not boosted the Mesa sounds better, as it should be. The real deal will be keeping the sound for two plus hours direct. But I think nobody will boy it for that purpose. Congrats!!

    Great demo and it sounds nice if I ever am in the mood for a more American sound, but I kinda can't believe they went with separate channel controls instead of a full-sized EQ section. Sounded like a no-brainer when I first saw they had an expanded version with two rows of controls.

    • @TaylorDanley
      @TaylorDanley  3 года назад

      Yeah, full eq would be nice, but I think they still did a pretty great job of capturing the essence of a dual rec and putting it in a lunchbox head.

    • @Tehstroyer
      @Tehstroyer 3 года назад +1

      @@TaylorDanley Oh, they absolutely did. No questions here.
      I understand it being that way on V1. It's just it feels like they want us to buy multiple amps for a larger sonic palette and doing one sound with more control as an expansion fits more to me with that idea than putting emphasis on it being more versatile, with fully separate channels.
      But then again, I don't make them so that might just be me assuming shit based on my preferences.

    Just got one of these. Most notable shortcoming is it has no headroom. At all. Past about 3 or 4 it starts losing all its dynamics and character and just gets *loud* . But, at around 2, Id feel just fine mic'ing and recording it. The clean channel is unsurprisingly unimpressive. Flat and dead, no matter how much gain you crank into it. Has zero glassy feel or tone, just a typical solid state clean. However a screamer will liven it up a little. But just a little. Kinda wish Id gotten the Meteor.

    Whoa, I've been out of touch for new Joyo amps. I've owned a Bantamp Meteor and the only thing I didn't like was no footswitch and no control over BT volume (usually not loud enough) , looks like Joyo made improvements to a very tempting hybrid amp. 20 watts still I assume though?

    This video was so well done.
    For an amateur like myself who just likes to jam the best brutal metal tones - I picked this up.
    What’s a preamp and why is only the preamp tube ?
    What’s a booster? You would not use a Boss metal zone as a booster - like what pedals do the “boosting”
    Do quality of speakers matter ?

      Nowadays I would expect better performance from small amps than bigger, older ones,just because of the focus the company must put on that single sound. Also, the tiny terror does the lunchbox amp thing much better and sounds spot on and recently yamaha released the second iteration of their lunchbox amp. It sounded really good on all the amp types and was packed with features. A really mature product
