It's weird, listening to them solo'd I think I might either eq in some high end or add a treble boost of some kind to the zoMBie. As far as the full mix it doesn't seem as noticeable.
Probably impossible, Joyo has much smaller headroom, hence much wider sound of Mesa both in low and high end. Plus, adding that preamp only put Joyo in disadvantage, because of aforementioned headroom. I am 100% certain Joyo can sound much closer to rectifier than seen in this vid. Less gain, no preamp boost, some pre EQ for that "V" shape of sound.
I love my original zombie. I modded it so the tube was inside the chassis and I removed the cover. Now it fits really nicely on my pedalboard and all I have to do is run my speaker cable to my cab rather than four cables. I also modded it to give me a footswitchable channel select. Only problem with that is the clean channel is lower volume compared to the gain channel. This Zombie 2 solves that issue. I wonder if there's room in the chassis to fit the tube...

I feel like what I can tell from the audio here, the Joyo has more of a mid-forward sound, but not in that obnoxious way that a lot of modern metal uses. Sounds really great!
They both sound great in a mix. The dual rec cuts a little bit more in the mids but the average joe would not care either way and could not tell the difference because the quality of both kicks ass \m/
Listening to solo I hear a rumble in the Zombie that the Mesa doesn't have. I own a Zombie I and have a hard time fighting that rumble with dynamic EQs etc., maybe I need to switch to a Mesa to avoid that in the first place. :/
Man I want this Zombie II since it's a Dual Rec sounding amp. Since it has an fx loop, you can run the preamp into a tube power amp of another amp, right? Got a little 15w with 2 EL84s and 3 12ax7s in the preamp that I'd be using.
This video was so well done. For an amateur like myself who just likes to jam the best brutal metal tones - I picked this up. What’s a preamp and why is only the preamp tube ? What’s a booster? You would not use a Boss metal zone as a booster - like what pedals do the “boosting” Do quality of speakers matter ?
Its very small and sounding better than expected joyo can do its father and sell the product well. its cost like a preamp pedal its size like a preamp pedal so why are you buying a pedal . Should buy one of these man.
Love it !!! Just got a JOYO Jackman 2. (In fact I accidentally bought two of them, Damn computer glitches). I have always wanted a modded JCM Who hasn’t? I am also one of the lucky few people that had an original first year duel recto. (Long band investment story). No I don’t have it anymore. Sorry to everyone SCREAMING. Sell it to me. The Jackman is more correct sounding To me than the new studio Marshall low watt. And now to sell my extra Jackman 2. In order to get. Well. You know.
No, but I should learn how to use one... and then do the video 🤣 I'm pretty inexperienced with whammys. I do want to get an expression pedal for my axefx though..
I wish they would of made the bantamps literal mini heads. 3 band eq, resonance, and presence knobs. For $200 each. They would of killed. Good amps still. Better than another starter piece of shit amp.
OK you bastard, now you've done. I have to have this gear. So far, I really think the Zombie 2 is the must have. Just curious, what's your favorite Joyo Bantam amp?.
@@TaylorDanley and I have heard some clip from the clean channel and it sounded really, really good. I agree with another post about it sounded better than the real amp it's modeled after.
Whoa, I've been out of touch for new Joyo amps. I've owned a Bantamp Meteor and the only thing I didn't like was no footswitch and no control over BT volume (usually not loud enough) , looks like Joyo made improvements to a very tempting hybrid amp. 20 watts still I assume though?
I'm loving my ZombieII with my Boss MS3... thanks for your vids! I also have JackmanII and it's a killer for the price as well. I'm still patiently waiting for the other BantampXL version but there's seems no luck with that. Edit: loop EQ to it to get best sound =)
Zombie and Zombie II are great little units, of course a Boogie will eat it alive in the real world, the warmth and put thump a boogie produces just completely drowns out a Zombie. in an edit the Zombie will hold its own really well. It’s great for practice especially with Headphones, get a near as boogie tone with headphones for quiet practice. Love it. It’s my go to when I want a practice. It’s also what a tenth of the price of a Boogie?!
Black metal tone is probably one of the most varied tones in the whole world, so are we talking Blaze in the Northern Sky era Darkthrone or Reinkaos era Dissection? Because one is a classic Jcm 800 into a greenback cab, the other is the cheapest amp you can find after you've dropped it down 3 flights of stairs and broken the bass knob off at 0. 😂 Nah, in all honesty for BM, I'd go for the Jackman with a boost or the Firebrand. I have videos on both.
Just got one of these. Most notable shortcoming is it has no headroom. At all. Past about 3 or 4 it starts losing all its dynamics and character and just gets *loud* . But, at around 2, Id feel just fine mic'ing and recording it. The clean channel is unsurprisingly unimpressive. Flat and dead, no matter how much gain you crank into it. Has zero glassy feel or tone, just a typical solid state clean. However a screamer will liven it up a little. But just a little. Kinda wish Id gotten the Meteor.
This new tech is insane these small heads u can gig and practice with I don't have thousands for a head lol they make great backups or even main depending on what u like I'm very impressed 👍 and Taylor great as always
Very thorough demo, awesome stuff! If you can, you should try out a Vox MV50 high gain. It's not as versatile (no effect loop or clean channel) but it's also based on a Mesa Dual Rectifier and sounds great!
Interesting, I like that it's got a footswitch to the channels now. Smart. And it sounded good. I'd still want to hear what it sounds like in a live room with a drum through.
thanks for this video I have a part time job coming up and Im getting a cab and new pickups for my guitar and if i cant get the mesa at the end then im for sure getting the joyo they both sound great in a mix so i can make real music with the joyo still so If it was not for this video id get stressed on what amp to get to sub a rectifier if i couldnt afford one
Really good comparison. I think boosted they sound pretty alike. Not boosted the Mesa sounds better, as it should be. The real deal will be keeping the sound for two plus hours direct. But I think nobody will boy it for that purpose. Congrats!!
Please share your opinion on how this amp sounds on low level volume. Does the tube in the pre-amp gives good distortion? I live in an apartment and do not want to annoy my neighbors ))

Man I want this Zombie II since it's a Dual Rec sounding amp. Since it has an fx loop, you can run the preamp into a tube power amp of another amp, right? Got a little 15w with 2 EL84s and 3 12ax7s in the preamp that I'd be using.
Yep, you can do that.
Great review! Subscribed!
Awesome, thank you!
I got one of these free, my first real gear! I also got a be-od by friedman to borrow for a bit. Would you run that into the clean channel?
This video was so well done.
For an amateur like myself who just likes to jam the best brutal metal tones - I picked this up.
What’s a preamp and why is only the preamp tube ?
What’s a booster? You would not use a Boss metal zone as a booster - like what pedals do the “boosting”
Do quality of speakers matter ?
Great video. I'm considering ditching my Marshall amps after this. Why carry all that weight when this little amp does everything I need.
i thought you're about to play SOAD - Soldier Side intro on 6:44
Imagine these, but with 200 or so watts. They are class D I think so I don't know why they haven't done it yet.
👀
i mean you could piggyback it into a power amp or a bigger amp. you should be able to plug the send into whatever size amp you want.
Ok, but like what if there was a toilet that burped after you flushed it.
Its very small and sounding better than expected joyo can do its father and sell the product well. its cost like a preamp pedal its size like a preamp pedal so why are you buying a pedal . Should buy one of these man.
Since the amp has an fx loop, I imagine you could use a patch cable from the send to a duncan powerstage, right?
Well. You know.
Awesome! I just acquired a jackman 2 as well 👀 I was pretty surprised. It sounds exactly like a jcm800 to me
@@TaylorDanley Now to get a Meteor . the zombie can wait.
Yo Taylor, Have you done a review on the Digitech DT whammy. If not That would be bad ass if you did
No, but I should learn how to use one... and then do the video 🤣 I'm pretty inexperienced with whammys. I do want to get an expression pedal for my axefx though..
I'd like to hear the Joyo's preamp sent into the fx loop return of the Mesa bypassing the Mesa preamp but utilizing the power section of the Mesa.
I bought one planning on adding a power amp later if I need. With the fx loop, this is an amazingly versitile platform.
Love my Zombie I and now I know there is an XL ("II") I'll buy this one as well so I have the I as backup.
I really dig your video production!
Thanks! 🙌
Would the zombie would benefit with an EQ pedal?
I wish they would of made the bantamps literal mini heads. 3 band eq, resonance, and presence knobs. For $200 each. They would of killed. Good amps still. Better than another starter piece of shit amp.
Awesome demo, taylor. \m/ the zombie amp sounds killer.
I think this will be good with a cab sim pedal with power amp in it to play indoor shows.
Wow Great sound and playing 🤘🏻, how is your guitar tuning?
Thank you. I tune to C standard.
How might it handle the Nux mg400 I wonder?
OK you bastard, now you've done. I have to have this gear. So far, I really think the Zombie 2 is the must have. Just curious, what's your favorite Joyo Bantam amp?.
zombie 2 easily.
I own the zMBi 1 and this video is great.
The full dual had a larger sound for good reason. I shouldn't say larger. More body
3:20 That's got a nice roar to it
🤘
Ehm... Have I any problem if i prefer the Zombie 2 over to Mesa in this video? :D
i ve got this problem to.
Man, that thing sounds mean. To my ears, it still has some sag to it, but not as bad as the dual rectifier. I may have to get one. Nice demo!
i sold my line 6 spider 4 30 watts for this and much better. awesome tone which i couldn´t afford, thanks to this.
Only question I have is, Does it take Fuzz/Distortion pedals?
These amps are pretty neat. I might get the Meteor, which I think is like an Orange clone. I'm sure they'll make a 2-channel version of that soon.
It’s also what a tenth of the price of a Boogie?!
what would be better for a black metal tone the zombie or the meteor
Black metal tone is probably one of the most varied tones in the whole world, so are we talking Blaze in the Northern Sky era Darkthrone or Reinkaos era Dissection? Because one is a classic Jcm 800 into a greenback cab, the other is the cheapest amp you can find after you've dropped it down 3 flights of stairs and broken the bass knob off at 0. 😂
Nah, in all honesty for BM, I'd go for the Jackman with a boost or the Firebrand. I have videos on both.
@@TaylorDanley which would be best for 90s swedish death metal tone then?
Zombie I'd think
@@TaylorDanley which one is your personal favorite?
🤔🤔🤔🤔 I'll look it up!
Interesting, I like that it's got a footswitch to the channels now. Smart. And it sounded good. I'd still want to hear what it sounds like in a live room with a drum through.
I wonder how this matches up against a mini terror head. Great video.
🙌
It crushes the mini terror and dark, I've compared them and honestly the joyo won in all categories 🤟🤟🤟.
Nice demo!
Where to find that boost pedal?
Kinda sounds like an already boosted dual rec, no flub. Killer.
thanks for this video I have a part time job coming up and Im getting a cab and new pickups for my guitar and if i cant get the mesa at the end then im for sure getting the joyo they both sound great in a mix so i can make real music with the joyo still so If it was not for this video id get stressed on what amp to get to sub a rectifier if i couldnt afford one
The joyo looks funny over the 4x12 cab
