Funny listening to him lecturing Hugh. Hugh prob caught more 30lb Pike than most of us. He pretty much started Ireland's coarse angling tourism. He would have fished Ireland's best coarse waters before they came under pressure. I was only a kid at the time but would read his adventures in the Irish and UK angling press.
Just so anyone watching knows. The fish in this video are actually considered quite small. 30+ pound pike are quite common. I wish they're was one shown in this documentary because I see them all the time
@@luciussander8217 County Mayo. There was a 35 pounpike caught in Kiltimagh last week. 21 pounder caught in Manulla on Sunday. I could go on but I see no need. Check fish brain or Facebook. 30 pound pike are common in the West of Ireland, at least one 25-30 pounder in every lake
Fantasy .Irish pike have been persecuted for years especially in the west of Ireland .If anybody considers the pike caught at Killykeen here smallish .i would consider your bit mad .I don.t know of any ethical piker who would advertise where they were catching big pike .IF i remember correctly.Hugh really regretted advertising the great pike fishing to b had at Killykeen .A friend of mine took a beautiful 28lb pike from there many moons ago .Do not think Killykeen ever recovered from the angling pressure it recieved .So if you are on to good piking keep it quiet .pike hate heavy angling pressure
