@@vitriol9995 thats the problem, you just can't slide right now lol but the more you fail the harder you will want to learn till the point where it comes muscle memory build that muscle memory as much as you can to the point where you don't even have to think about anything to do with the skateboard its just second hand natural i.e. part of your body. most people don't want to become one with the skateboard but thats what skateboarding is all about, nothing but you and a board and the willing to push on.
I've watched something like a dozen or so "how to ollie" videos, and this is hands down the most clear. It breaks down each step, puts together a nice progression, and helped me figure out the kinematics. Thank you. Definitely earned my subscription.
don’t you just hate when you’re trying to ollie but then you accidentally do a tre flip and laser flip back to back and then land a 900 off of your kitchen microwave?
CLOROX BLEACH but you don't have to do it in that specific way, in fact it might even be detrimental. learning stationary ollies does not help learning moving ollies as much as people seem to think. as I've been more and more involved with new skaters, I actually see learning your ollie in the grass as slowing you down.
Spread your legs in mid air. Don't try sliding your foot by using your calf alone. Spread your legs with your knees like squatting in mid air. That is the missing step when they try to teach that sliding your foot up to the tip of the nose of the board just spreading your legs and try to squat in mid air. Hope this will you even it's been months since you posted this question.
Kxea I recommend you work on the sliding of the foot, I know it doesn’t give much pop but I learned my first ollie on a carpet. Just try to slide your foot all the way to the top and when it’s there you kind of kick forward and down with your foot, just not enough to send the board flying. But really I’m not very good at skateboarding so unfortunately I cannot give you a lot of tips sorry 😅
This is the most helpful video I've found so far. This guy knows his stuff, so just follow everything he says and you will definitely learn how to ollie. Pay extra close attention to the slow-motion sequences, especially how he coordinates the pop as he generates momentum for the jump. Other videos don't really cover that point very well. I don’t know why but when I try to persist at something I quit after the first day but somehow I kept loving to try ollies for the 5 and 1/2 months it took
Guys do not give up. I skate for like 3 months and before I learned tricks like the kickflip I wanted to make sure that my Ollie's are well done and yesterday I jumped over a friend's borad. That felling was amazing.
Thanks so Much. I had learned to ollie but couldn't while moving but you advice to stay on your TOES and push as HARD as you can on the tail is starting to help and makes my Ollie's higher than before when my feet were flat! That's a lot.
Hey man thanks for making this video. I've probably watched about 10-15 videos before this one and all i've go to say is thanks. You went so much more in depth then all the other videos just saying pop and slide not even mentioning foot positioning and timing or anything like that. I had someone come up to me and give me a few tips on how to pop my board straight. After that I came to your video and when you went over making sure the tail hits the ground and wanting your weight to be on your big toes and not putting your whole foot It was a blessing. Right after i exited your video I heard my tail hits the ground I slid my foot and man did it fell great after I landed with both my feet on the ground. Thanks so much dude.
The thing I like about your videos is that you give lots of steps before getting to the trick, unlike every other video I've seen which encourages just doing the trick to start. Keep posting great content!

I got my first ollie over a little curb three days ago, today I did it on a higher one and landed my Nollies today. I've been struggling with ollies for litterally two months now. I'm so glad I got them.
I just started skateboarding, and thanks to you and your videos I succesfully did a few small ollies today. It's not much, but I feel the progress. Keep up the good work!
Abraham Lincon that's good just try to put you back foot on as fast as possible when you Ollie you put you front behind the front screws and your back on top of the back screws and pop back the of the board first then jump up with your front. The main foot is the back pop depending on how high you want to go. If you want to go high put you front foot closer to you back and do the regular way you would Ollie : ) good luck you can do ittt
Abraham Lincon I've been trying to ollie and at first my board keeps flying forward too. then I tried leaning more towards my front foot before jumping. kinda like jumping off my front foot as my back foot kicks down to pop. don't know if that is supposed to be the right way but it sorta works for me. now I gotta work on getting my back leg up and leveled with my front. as I find that I keep landing back leg first and having my board slip off from under me. I'm 29 and I just started skating last month.
Abe Lincoln, try nose or tail pick ups while riding. then apply your pick up pop to your ollies. (still the ball of your toe. like a ninja kick with your backfoot diagonally and downward.) drag it up in the "AIR" then step back on your deck on air.
I have been skateboarding since I was 7 and I am 11 now. All I needed was this video that not only helped me do an Ollie but other things like a pop shuvit.
with the pop(this is my problem) make sure you flick your toes off of it so that your foot gets of the tail. the higher your back foot, the more space you have for air time. Hope this helps, but i cant ollie to save my life and i cant try rn but i hope you've gotten a good ollie by now
That's the exact opposite of what Aaron Kyro from Braille says. He says to KICK the board with your front foot really hard, like "Slide, then KICK!". I try this and my board keeps going in front of me and I land on the tail with both feet. Luckily I am doing it in grass right now, otherwise I would hit the back of my head or break my arms.
Hi +VLSkate just wanted to know if you had a recommended order for tricks to learn for beginners, like a "natural progression", I recently started to learn to ollie; my first trick, and i've started landing a few in a more consistent manner; still need more height, but I'm working on that. Anyway, what should i try next?
+Jordan hey! well if you're well on your way to getting your ollies down, i'd say you could go a few different ways for your next trick. the easiest to learn next would probably be a frontside 180, or a shove it. personally, i'm pretty sure my first trick after an ollie was a fs 180. hope this helps, have fun!
+John i really don't think so, you can pretty much get used to anything. i started with a 7.75 and now i skate an 8.5 and i can flick it just as well and do all the same tricks. is say just use whatever you're most comfortable on. i liked the wider space to land on so i went bigger
OMG BRO THANK YOU SO MUCH. I've been watching alot of ollie tutorials and not a single one of them said that the front foot should be standing on the balls of the feet too like the back foot.
Thank you. This is actually the best how-to video for learning an ollie. I am a complete beginner and this helped me to comprehend the popping movement. Thank you, sir.
Hi I just started practicing my Ollie today and my front foot just won’t move, I’ve been practicing for hours now I need help ): and I know it takes more than hours to get it, i just need help bc Idk why I just can’t slide my foot
Doodles Out Dude as soon as you pop slightly lift your front foot so it's barely scraping towards the nose, remember your front foot will need to be at a 45 degree angle for the slide. Not flat! So in one motion pop, 'not too hard to start' and slide toward the nose. Back foot; __ front foot; \------__ < land! Hope you understood my little doodle. lol When I got back into skating after many years in exile I thought my first few were 2 inches high, until I recorded in slow motion, turned out it was about a foot high. Let me know buddy.
The key is to know what you're doing wrong. If u get a really nice ollie, think about it and try to remember how you did it and how it felt. Personally, I think the ollie is the hardest trick to learn in skateboarding, because getting a really good ollie takes alot of time and effort to get it higher. I hope I helped getting you motivated
sarah gonzalez Any update?! Bet you can land them now.... Skating really is 90% mental. I always think, if he/she anyone, can do it, I know I can do it. Don't "think" you can, know you can and will. I seen a 6 year old girl double kickflip down a 3 stair just yesterday, wearing a pink ballerina dress. I swear to god. 🙏✌️

I just started skateboarding, and thanks to you and your videos I succesfully did a few small ollies today. It's not much, but I feel the progress. Keep up the good work!
Did anyone else get the add that teaches you how to do it
Skater trainers? lol
Yes
*ad
CHOC CAKE skater trainers?
Haha yes
When I Ollie my board holds on to my front foot and flies forward. How can I fix this?
Abraham Lincon same here
this means you are leaning back.
sometimes at the moment you jump up, the force sends your board forward
My grip tape won’t allow me to slide my foot😐
CadenClaw4 same
Wesley ok thanks
It's not ur griptapes fault
Nm, this comment was I while ago and I got it figured out 👍
@@nummy3489 nice
I remember watching this back in February now I’m doing kickflips
Your are the best skateboarder teacher I have ever watched in my life.I can do Ollies NOW!!!!!!
this video is the best olie vid I've seen good job yu got the best Ollie vid on RUclips (better than Aaron kyro
true
I thought Aaron Kyro would have the best Ollie tutorial, but I think you're right. This video seems really helpful
I agree. The second best video would be Aaron Kyro's "Ollie 2.0" video, but this one is definitely better.
yep i was surprised, wayy better than kyros
that is so true cause when he did it without the board it helped me
When I do an Ollie, it’s super fast and pretty short. How do I improve?
PS: It is in grass, so does that effect it majorly?
grass is fine you just get less height, can be hard going from stationary to moving ollies on concrete
if its short then try jumping higher
really late but one problem i had was i had a board that was too small and i forgot to lift both of my legs
with the pop(this is my problem) make sure you flick your toes off of it so that your foot gets of the tail. the higher your back foot, the more space you have for air time. Hope this helps, but i cant ollie to save my life and i cant try rn but i hope you've gotten a good ollie by now
I just want to say thank you. Today I just learned how to do my first ollie and I owe it all to you.
Eyes and brain: ez
My body: So you have chosen death
Omg there was an ad on before the video teaching me how to Ollie and I thought it was the video then I saw the skip button
was it Aaron kyro
@@SilencedTides I don't know I commented this 1 year ago, probaly was lol
Landed my first real Ollie within an hour of watching your video man your the best
Dude I can Ollie and this vid helped me the most detailed vid on RUclips I subeditor so Thanks man good luck and hope you liked this comment👍🏻😎👏
Me too man
teach me your ways dude
i can barely get back wheels of ground.. please help
watch my video called Quick Tips 4 common Ollie mistakes
thanks, the video helped a lot! :)
I have that same problem, I'm gonna go watch that video!
Will Smith I have the same problem
Will Smith I had the same problem. But if you can't lift both your nose and tail equally, your foot infront should be in the middle or probably lower
Thank you! Definitely the best tutorial!
I have every rule down it’s just I need to jump high enough
Make sure the tail hits the ground then jump and slide
@@danhere92-66 Doesn’t work :(
I have a problem, whenever I slide my front foot up, my board just goes forward and not staying with my foot. can someone help me
I have the same problem
+Jonathan Atkinson your pushing on the board while you do it just slide ur foot with alittle pressure not alot
The most significiant thing to do ollie is being confident just try to ollie while ur riding the board
That used to happen to me but enable to stop doing that, don't slide your foot with too much force
That's the exact opposite of what Aaron Kyro from Braille says. He says to KICK the board with your front foot really hard, like "Slide, then KICK!". I try this and my board keeps going in front of me and I land on the tail with both feet. Luckily I am doing it in grass right now, otherwise I would hit the back of my head or break my arms.
i’ve been trying to get my ollie back for months and i watched this video and i finally got it! you’re an awesome teacher
4:38 bruuh you can see a piece of your shoe when you did that Ollie 💀💀😂
how about knee bending position? should i bend my knees inwards? outwards? or perpendicular to the board?
perpendicular
Pijen any way that the most comfortable to you
Yes I saw some videos prior to this, but the way you showed in slow motion with detail, I learnt it. Thank you.
I tried barefoot on new griptape, let's just say i don't have feet anymore
this is the best tutorial about the ollie ever made for I learnt more about the ollie in 1 day than my entire time I've been riding thanks
I tried to Ollie and fell backwards and hit my head
That would have hurt
Oof
well that's discouraging ;-;
ouch
WHEN I TELL YOU I WHEEZED-

i looked for this channel first
A lot of other ollie videos didn’t include the specified toe/not your whole foot. Thank you for this video!
I've been following a ton of skate guides and I just can get it it would mean a lot if u could help
do you have any way to post a video of your ollies?
+VLSkate I have some problems too. It would be great if u could help me. Maybe its only that my board is to shitty to do an Olie idk.
1:25 his shoes are ripped up
the screaming chinchar 900 slow down detective are you sure?
His dog was watching
Hi +VLSkate just wanted to know if you had a recommended order for tricks to learn for beginners, like a "natural progression", I recently started to learn to ollie; my first trick, and i've started landing a few in a more consistent manner; still need more height, but I'm working on that. Anyway, what should i try next?
+Jordan hey! well if you're well on your way to getting your ollies down, i'd say you could go a few different ways for your next trick. the easiest to learn next would probably be a frontside 180, or a shove it. personally, i'm pretty sure my first trick after an ollie was a fs 180. hope this helps, have fun!
cheers👍🏾
Hey, does deck size matter in tricks outside larger being easier to land on it?
like is it easier to do the foot drag and stuff in a larger one?
+John i really don't think so, you can pretty much get used to anything. i started with a 7.75 and now i skate an 8.5 and i can flick it just as well and do all the same tricks. is say just use whatever you're most comfortable on. i liked the wider space to land on so i went bigger
OMG BRO THANK YOU SO MUCH. I've been watching alot of ollie tutorials and not a single one of them said that the front foot should be standing on the balls of the feet too like the back foot.
2:22 Ouch! Isn't it hurts to do tricks bare foot??
btw I am the 3000th comment :D
what are thooose
+Fireballx100 hahaa
+VLSkate close i watched 301 vids
Those are called shoes that u dont want to wear a hole in while doing tricks
Skate shoes buddy they have all this holes from all those tricks
Something you can't afford
Thank you.
This is actually the best how-to video for learning an ollie.
I am a complete beginner and this helped me to comprehend the popping movement.
Thank you, sir.
Do flamingo tutorial as there aren't really any good tutorials on that.
GibblesPvP good idea! i can do that
Vilas Left Yay :D Btw, I pretty much learnt them. About 1/2 tries I get it.
I just started Skating today im only 11 and i just did my first ollie
Skating for already 2 years and still can't ollie 😪😪😪😪
This is the best tutorial on all of RUclips. Thank you so much.
PLEASE HELP ME MAN!! You just made it look 1000x more difficult
I am sacrificing my shins for this
I just wanna cruise and ollie
This is the best tutorial because all the other ones dont talk about foot placement at all but now i know not to stand flat im making progress
@@Kodes-75 Thank you so much, I'll follow your instructions and see what happens.
my ollies suck. They're different everytime. never consistent or remotely the same
The key is to know what you're doing wrong. If u get a really nice ollie, think about it and try to remember how you did it and how it felt. Personally, I think the ollie is the hardest trick to learn in skateboarding, because getting a really good ollie takes alot of time and effort to get it higher. I hope I helped getting you motivated
Fernando Vázquez people say tre flips are hard, once you get em theyre easy af (cant tre, just advice from friend)
How’s you skating progress
I’ve watched a few tutorials on how to Ollie and this is the most thorough and helpful - thank you!!!
Bro its impossible like my board just flies backwards and I land on my face😭😭
xdddddddd
sarah gonzalez Any update?! 🙏✌️
