🌴 Production screw-ups are inevitable and pilot productions are almost necessary. After finding out that we made $1.5 million worth of waste, KraveBeauty took matters into its own hands instead of throwing away unused products.
This is not a surprise in the product industry. Waste can come from production, excess inventories, returns, and so much more. But it's up to us, both as consumers and businesses, to be proactive in these flaws by being mindful of our sustainability options while being transparent about our waste.

KraveBeauty ownership: KraveBeauty is my own skincare brand that I founded in December 2017. While the thoughts and opinions that I share on my channel are always genuine, I must acknowledge the direct relationship that I have with KraveBeauty. Thank you for your continued support and understanding, I would not have been able to find KraveBeauty without my #PalmPalmFam.

Your transparency and brand of leadership are everything I hope to achieve 😭😭😭 such an inspiration
Omg 🥹 it’s really a team effort
You two are my faves! 🥺
@@LiahYoo Liah Yoo do you maybe be in Poland or you know soembody from Poland ?
i'm in the chemical distribution industry and i'm also certified to manage chemical waste for the company i'm working at. everything liah said is very true and i find it really inpsiring how krave beauty has re-purposed their rejects and i hope it inspires other companies to follow in her footsteps.
idk if anyone's interested in how much it would cost her company to dispose a batch of rejected goods. just based on the rejected batch of matcha hemp cleanser, which is about 10MT - 11MT (those "bath tubs" that she mentions holds about 1MT per tank), could have cost an additional USD 11-12K to dispose minimum (based on conservative rates to dispose chemical waste in my country) for that quantity alone. rejected batches + expired goods that they cannot sell, the cost adds up very quickly.
what liah said about quantifying the waste generated is absolutely true. if you don't know how much you generated, you cannot feel the pain of it when you do throw them away. my company just moved premises and just sorting out + disposing all the chemical samples that had accumulated over the company's 15 years of life, was so frustrating and heartbreaking. it has definitely made my company more aware of it and they have made efforts to rectify SOPs.
I LOVEE this transparency. It makes me think if an eco conscious brand like Krave Beauty has this much waste, imagine brands that are operating without forethought or afterthought to their waste…
You're above the rest when it comes to transparency, Thank you Liah 🤗
🥲🥲 our hard working team is behind me and couldn’t have done anything without them
Liah there's a reason why I have been loyal to your brand since day one. Besides the fact I'm 45 and have finally happy with my skin. I feel good about buying your products. For the quality and for what your brand represents. I have never seen anyone explain to the public all of the struggles of trying to be as sustainable as possible. I see it. I think we all see it. I feel good and I look good because of you. 💚
BRAVO Liah! I hope more companies take example from your transparency, humility in admitting what happens behind the scenes, creativity and commitment in improving your operations to lessen the waste. No greenwashing at Krave Beauty, only actions to make this world a better place 😘
I appreciate the work you put in, and as a skin care enthusiast, and consumer - Iwant to know how the product got to me. If I know better, I can do better.
It’s really nice to see this topic being discussed and also getting to know the brand more. Really appreciate the transparency and information shared in this video. Thank you Liah!
I love how krave beauty is always setting a standard! Your transparency and intention as a brand is inspirational and I hope more follow. Thank you always for educating and bettering us all!
Thank you for watching!
Kravebeauty is one if not the most intentional beauty brand that exist. Seeing the work that gets put in to product creation is amazing !
as someone who dislikes the idea of waste and love a good discount this is calling my name 😂 I hope more brands follow in the footsteps of these wonderful beauty leaders !
Ah were totally on the same boat!🤍 thanks for your kind words
After watching this I so want to buy from you as you’re so thoughtful and passionate about the environment. You’re ready to set a path for all other brands towards sustainability with your trials and errors. I am in for it!
Thank you Liah for bringing this important issue up! It's heartbreaking to see unused returned products get thrown away.
I think free return is actually a huge problem when it comes to sustainability. Brands/retailers use it to incentivize customer consumption imo. And it makes us do the exact opposite of consuming intentionally. A lot of ppl when they don't really need something or aren't sure about something will just buy it first and return it later. This will only create more carbon footprint and more waste. If we always need to pay to return a product, maybe we can be more careful and intentional with our purchases and really only buy what we need.
Such an inspiration!! So many brands don't want to put their ''fails'' out there because of fear of hurting their brand image.
This is not the right mentality and you are paving the way to change the hearts and minds of people about this issue!
Thank you and bravo!! 💖🙌
I love love krave! And my skin loves it!💜
Specifically gbr and make up rewind! THE BEST
You are a really phenomenal business owner and have been very transparent with everything from the beginning - I hope you know how much your customers appreciate that!
🥹🥹 that means a lot but our team pulled it together real well! Thank you 🌴
This is SUCH a great idea, I am just as excited to try the pilot versions because I know they will work just as well but I am most excited about the fact we’re helping to reduce waste!
The cleansers have been in my cart for weeks but I couldn’t buy them because it wasn’t fitting in my budget. Now, not only do I save some money and get the products that I needed, but also contribute to reducing waste?! Win-win for the planet and my pockets
Amazing 😻 hope it works out well for you!
Liah your constant transparency and sincerity are one of the things that make me keep coming back to Krave beauty. Truly inspirational, and I hope other brands are paying attention!
I think there would be next to no returns if beauty companies made more little tester sachets for ALL their products, and just charged a reasonable price for them, and still gave them for free with purchase like Sephora does. People could then buy a weeks worth, or maybe a large size tester sachet that lasts a few days and see if the product actually works for them. Then the packaging is cheap and could be mailed in envelope form possibly, instead of tiny glass bottles and whatever else. I have sensitive skin and always try to find testers first, but a lot of companies don't make them, or really don't like to give them out unless you buy something.
Love your transparency & honesty Liah. I never thought about this thing before. Didn't knew returned beauty products can't be resold/used. Thankfully I haven't returned any cosmetic product so far except for some shattered eyeshadow palettes. We all should be more cautious while purchasing an item from now on to stop wastage. Thanks for sharing your knowledge & ideas. Please keep doing that. Love you❤😘
I really appreciate your transparency and all the efforts you & your team has done for sustainability and being mindful of your wastes. As always, thanks and take care Liah! 🌴💚
So nice of you, thank you ❤
Been following u before Krave and i truly truly respect you Liah. This video really open my mind, cannot imagine how much waste created by beauty industry as a whole.
If only i am in New York, i would definitely come to the pop up store.
Hats off to you and the KraveBeauty team for tirelessly coming forward and making changes! 🌱💚
This is WHY I support Krave beauty!!
what an engaging way to bring across such important message with regard to the waste in beauty industry. thank you and your dedication is definitely admirable!! as a 16 year old, im so SO inspired by you
Aw thank you! Means a lot x
this was amazing! tbh ive never heard of kravebeauty, but this video alone makes me want to buy from you guys. the complete transparency, the pro-action, the initiative to start the conversation. i loved everything ab this
THE TRANSPARENCY 🙌🙌❣️❣️😭
Now, I'm getting convinced to buy those product variation where there's a slight defect on the box but is still the original one which is sold at a slightly cheaper price. I always buy products in their best condition just to make sure but maybe I can try those even without box when it's my 2nd or 3rd time buying that on the same shop
The honesty and transparency of Krave is incredible!!!
It' amazing to get such a look behind the scenes. And what a great idea to sell the "screw ups" at a discounted price to not let them go to waste. Hopefully more brands will increase their efforts for sustainability. :)
Thank you! 🤍🌴
As an in-process chemist that makes skincare, the waste that we have in the laboratory is ridiculous. I take in so much product in order to measure and test different things about it to make sure it matches what the customer wants and then I'm forced to dump it all afterwards. It's not customer-grade but I would be perfectly happy taking it home myself but even that's not allowed. It's required to get trashed.
Omg yes!!!!!! There’s so much that gets wasted throughout the entire product development
And so many labs actually just dump their glassware! It's crazy
LOVE thE transparency but also the creativity and ability to pivot! I am going to pick up one of each from the Waste Me Not collection because of this!
i lovelovelovelove krave beauty and liah so much, thank you for always being transparent and coming up with the best solutions to help our planet!!
Your transparency and honesty about your brand and the beauty industry is much appreciated, what an eye opener!
Thank you, your support means a lot 🥹
You're one of a very few CEOs I admire, what a gem 🥺
God! I love this woman soooo much.
Thank for being so open with us Liah! You guys are amazing!
thank you Ana!
I love Krave Beauty! Aside from your effective products, I love how sustainable and inclusive it is! 💖💖 your matcha hemp cleanser and kale AHA saved my skin 🥺💖
This is strong. Seeing your flaws and making a positive over this..I LOVE THIS *TRANSPARENCY!!!*
Thank you!🤍🫶
I totally love the transparency of what goes on behind the scenes because it helps us to be more aware of knowing our dollars are contributing to change...#SAVETHEPLANET🌎
Thank you Liah … never knew about this issue!!! you & Krave are true leaders and always appreciate your transparency & honesty . Just purchased your ‘ misfits ‘ and always will .
And also Thank you for always listening and respecting your customers xx
Thanks for supporting our misfits!!
Your Matcha Hemp facial cleanser is my all time fave 💚 I already finished two bottles of the old packaging and I just purchased the one with the new packaging! Not sure if there were major differences in the formula but i hope it will still work well on my skin 🙏🏻💯
Love your transparency and honesty, as always.
You’re so great! Such a huge inspiration to me. Thank you for helping the earth and our future.
I'm really thankful for this video. This video was really educational and insightful. Not only is it giving us infomartion about what is happening behind the scenes and what thought went into each decision but also reminding us to take a step back and rethink of our consumer habits. Once again a great video ❤️ thank you for your honesty and transparency!!
Thanks for that feedback!🤍🙏 love to know that this video was insightful x
As an ecommerce professional in asia, i find beauty product returns a really weird problem, because out here, cosmetics are just simply non-returnable goods. Unless the buyer has proof that they received a defective or contaminated product, there really isn't anywhere I know in my country at least that allows returns. Even for unopened ones.
my favorite brand and skincare of all time! love y’all so much
love this so much!! appreciate the transparency. will always advocate/promote this brand :)
Thank you Crysta 🤍🙏
Wow this was such a great and informative video. I’m so incredibly proud of you and your company Liah and will counting to happily support you! Hopefully I get to meet you at the NYC pop up!
You will be!🤍
Another reason to love this brand! Your commitment to creating a positive impact is unwavering. Kudos Liah! :)
Aw thanks Andrea! 🌴🫶
I've never used any of krave beauty products just because it's not available in my country but I would be so proud to own one just because of her perspective on her brand and how she connects the consumers by her experience. I think that would be worth my penny and wouldn't hesitate to purchase even if it's damaged
Thank you 🥹🥹 means a lot
this is SO inspiring!!

Hi Liah 🌸 - I have long admired you, the team and what Krave Beauty stands for and how you act in alignment with those values. It is not easy to do so with so many challenges of how the industry (& other industries) currently operates yet you show how things can be disrupted and be done differently. I have found it so fascinating and interesting seeing the behind-the-scenes of different aspects of your journey as well as the company. This video has been insightful, Thank you sharing the reality of 'Waste' and what creative solutions can implemented to tackle the core issues, it will generate great discussion and more ideas on what we all can do to #WasteMeNot. 👏🏾💖👑
Stay safe and well 😊
Thank you! So happy that people are more receptive of it too 🫶 gives us so much hope and of course motivation
WOW I DIDNT KNOW ABOUT THIS! Thank you for always sharing and educating!
Thanks for watching! Hope it was insightful
Such a great video! Love the transparency
🤍🤍🤍🌴
This is such an important message thAT EVERY BRAND, ESPECIALLY SKINCARE, NEEDS TO HEAR.
I’m so glad you’re talking about this Liah! I’m in the early stages of my Zero-Waste Clean Beauty start-up and have been coming across the same conflicts myself as I plan out.
Hope it works out well for you! Slow and steady 🐢🤍
@@LiahYoo Thank you so much! Looking forward to attending your Pop-Up😊
Just made an order!! I love how transparent you are! Thank you for always doing extensive research and educating is
Thank you genesis 🤍
Love this! Just ordered a whole bunch of the body cleanser to give as Christmas gifts to my work colleagues!!
Omg thank you! Appreciate it
Liah, you are a revolutioner. I'm in supply chain managing 4pl for large cosmetics companies and I've been taking about this forever. The waste in this industry is overwhelming and consumers think that it's only about the packaging 😭 People think that if their brand minimizes packaging, plastic or tries to be sustainable, then they're good brands worth supporting. Unfortunately consumers don't know the waste that's being produced behind the scenes and there the companies don't even feel compelled to be sustainable or reduce waste because no one sees it.
Omg speak louder!!! Hope the brands can recognize that there could be more meaningful things done in the supply chain even without changing their packaging 🥹
I admire your courage and transparency! :)
Never thought of buying a product with crinkle packaging.. but going to start practicing that now so I can help where I can. :P
This was such an interesting watch! So if the mass production run is a fail then do you still have to pay the manufacturer for that?
Great explanation of a topic that I had not thought about before. Thank you, i am more conscientious customer now
Thank you Ruth! Hope it was enlightening
I love this!!!! Not only have I loved your brand forever but it also made it possible for me to purchase ❤️❤️ times have been hard and with kids thier needs come before my own ❤️❤️❤️ and working in health care we are still wearing N95 and PPE for 12-18 hrs at a time and your products are a face saver ❤️❤️❤️ you are amazing and im beyond happy to put my money into your brand. Keep up the great work.

Appreciate you!
She really uses her platform the right way
Thank you!🙏
It may already be on your radar but have you ever considered becoming certified by/as B-Corp? The B stands for "better" or "benefit" and it's all about making sure a company is actively benefiting the world across 5 different pillars or areas that make sure that betterment is across the board and not good in one area for marketing spin but bad in another, including requirements for how communities, customers, staff, the environment etc are all treated, and that the company governs with transparency and accountability and with good values at its heart etc. I highly recommend checking them out as you're passionate about this stuff and I think you would be a great candidate. You are re-tested every few years to maintain certified and have to keep improving to show real commitment to it so it keeps companies honest and consumers can trust in a certified company without having to stress about doing the research if they want to be conscious consumers. Some larger examples of companies that have been certified are Nespresso and The Body Shop :)
Bien aquí, Liah♡
Thanks again for sharing your Krave journey 😎 just placed an order of seven items maximum allowed🥳
Thanks for helping us out!
This is why I love you 😍❤️
this is sooooo coool
I love you liah, you are amazing
Thank you Liah for owning a company yet talking about over consumption! Love the transparency ❤
Thank you!
Hi Liah, I've been watching you and your recommendations before you even started Krave Beauty. To be honest I want to try your products however they are just too expensive here in the Philippines (Krave Beauty: PHP 1500+) (Other korean brands (PHP 800 or so)
I can't sustain KBs price in the long run. Hoping there's a way that price can be more affordable so everyone can get access to a good skin care. All the best

The true answer is to not simply tax those companies, but completely ban them from making sales. The issue is capitalism. These companies are trying to profit, thus things are made in surplus. And they’re trying to appeal to venture capitalists Aka BILLIONAIRES who invest in their companies who control most of America and perpetuate waste. Also, the exploitation of people in Asia for their cheap labor… are the practices even humane?
. And I hate how companies pin it on us consumers, when they are the ones THE MOST responsible for the waste that is KILLING our world. We need regulations within corporations so they are responsibly using their business in a truly sustainable way.
If i can decide of one social media i like is lia i just love her

Btw I'm going to now check out Blueland. 💚
slayed
How can we get some? I’m not currently in NY
Can you please ship internationally i live in Saudi Arabia and I want to order 😭
Are you selling the discounted products in Korea?
The video is informative, no doubts, especially for concious consumers. But all these measures of waste management seem to have a business-oriented standard.
- Those bottles are still ending in the landfill.
- The test product formulas with ingredients that aren't good for environment are still entering the oceans and soils.
Producing less is great, obviously. There's just scope to make the carbon footprint lower.
Hey, I'm kinda curious: how come the "wasted" GBR didn't go towards the GBR body lotion? Something similar to the Matcha Hemp Body Cleaner could work!
Once the gbr formula is inside the silicone insert, it’s hard to pour them out to a bigger bulk in a hygienic way :/
@@LiahYoo I see! Thank you for clearing that up!
Transportation and packaging are my concerns. I am trying to shop locally.
Definitely! Shopping locally is best
Hi Liah, I would like to know I am from Malaysia and i would like to know if I would like to try your product which website should i visit? Beside that, I would like to know is there any shipping fees from Korea to Malaysia that i need to know about?
I would like to hear from you. TQ
In my country you can't return beauty items, one less problem
Same with Korea! I was surprised that US accepts opened and used beauty product returns
