Netflix should pick up this series- the quality is amazing! Really helpful and informative. I love my sheet masks but learning all this is giving me pause.
that is what I was concerned with too. Thats why I shifted to compressed sheet masks which are coin sized. So, now I can use it with any of my favourite serum. The compressed sheet masks don't come in those individual plastic outer packaging.
I got really concerned about the sustainability of sheet masks when they first appeared and gained popularity in the west. I still, to this day, see sheet masks as a treat for special occasions. It's something I treat myself to once or twice a year if even that. 🤷🏻♀
Additon: I have seen sheet masks made of viscose/lyocell fibers, which is a man-made fiber from wood. It is a better alternative, but as always less/no waste is the most sustainable way (inkl. packaging).
I actually like the cooling feeling biocellulose over cotton ones surprisingly so been buying those more often instead.. yep I broke up with using sheet mask every day. I also thought I wouldn't be able to do it but my skin isn't missing it too much. Now I just buy sheet mask when I am ordering skincare and need a couple of bucks more to get free shipping. :)
Love this. I recently saw that Glow Recipe is starting to do something similar to what Krave did with their overproduction products with one of their toners. The best by date is June or July 2023 and they’re selling it for 50% of what the usual cost is which I thought was kind of cool. I wish more companies would do this to reduce waste because we all know they toss it after that best before date (I think)
Hey girl! I love your video, the topic is awesome, but let me tell you 2 things as correction with a good intention. First, cotton as waste material comes from when the fibers go through a classification after harvesting at the very beginning of a production line, not from scraps or leftovers from the garment industry, because that material is already dyed in certain colors and handled with different chemicals on the surface. Also, when undyed cotton materials are made, it is not bright white naturally even though the fibers look like on the plants, it has a yellowish undertone, therefore the sheet masks ready to use are made from bleached cotton, just as the cotton pads. By the way I'm a sustainable fashion student at UEL, so if you need any further info on any other topics related to sustainability or fashion industry please feel to send a message to me, I'm happy to share my knowledge with you.
When asking which is better, up-cycling vs using a petroleum product or supporting local business (like a cafe) vs avoiding coffee, I like to ask at which point am I supporting local vs the industry?
Question: How long is the reusable sheet mask can last? 1 year? 2 year? How to keep it mold free and hygienic? I live in very hot and humid country that even those strength band will melts, so do I need to store the reusable sheet mask inside the fridge? If I only use it once a week, it is still worth the waste to use the reusable sheet mask?
I'm just glad I can still order plastic straws from China. I haven't found an available alternative which is comparable. If they focused on sourcing cornstarch straws (you can't tell they're not plastic!) then I would buy them instead. But no, they focus on selling silicone, metal, paper. There are places I could get cornstarch straws but since they're not mainstream they're expensive.
In Korea is there a more sustainable way to get rid of sheet masks? I know America is notorious for not recycling versus Korea where there is this idea in America that Korea is very strict with their recycling laws. Are the sheet masks able to be properly disposed of or recycled in Korea compared to America?
Watching this before I order more skincare and had to remove the sheet mask packs from my cart! Going to explore some better tub masks that I can recycle the packaging instead and invest in good serums and occlusives to help the underlying condition of my skin vs. temporary solution and single-use waste solution of sheet masks. It's gonna be a hard transition but worth it for the long-run of waste reduction and sustainability!
I learned something new today yey! Thanks for sharing Liah, your videos are so informative and so creative😁 And that clip of your younger self is so cute😍
Great video 👍 I never gave any thought on how sheet masks were made or their impact on the environment; I recently stocked up on them but from now on will definitely buy alternatives / reusable products
Hi cutie pie I'm fst Tym viewer morning my son first birthday function so plz tellme should I use sheet mask a day before event.. night use best results a r morning use after makeup plzz tellme because my face so lot's of dull
Thank you for this informative and easily digestible video! What are your thoughts on masks that aren’t sheet masks but carry serums like clay or charcoal masks?
Hi, thank you for this info. I have just seriously involved into skincare for a few months but sheetmask always make me frown whenever i search for something to boost my skin hydration. Ah how about Foreo UFO the mask device with some « cheating » by running on skin slugged with nutritious toner? I have seen a few beauty bloggers doing it, instead of getting Foreo sheet masks which are slightly expensive.
ive stop using sheet masks for around a year now simply because i just cant accept the fact that the world has to have one more waste just because i want to pamper myself for 30 minutes 😂😅 nowadays lots of masks that are amazing comes in tube and jars so I highly recommend them to anyone looking to save money + more environmental friendly!

Thank you! That means a lot 🥹🥹
The info was also very concise.
The packaging for single sheet masks might be more concerning than the sheet masks inside 🥲
that is what I was thinking too. All that plastic waste
Good point!

Another great option I’ve seen is Low Beauty hydrogel sheet mask. It’s a pretty cool invention ☺️

i quit buying sheet masks last year for this reason - thanks for the history and research - it confirms my conviction!
You are so welcome!

try the reusable one!

oh wow it's amazing to see other brands being open about their inventory problems!

I used to use sheet masks occasionally, but I got lazy and impatient. Now, I mainly use sleeping/overnight masks.
Thanks for the great Video. I might buy a reusable sheet mask for my birthday in may❤ 😊
That won’t stop my favorite ASMR person for making tiny sheep masks for her cats!
You are right
I wish there were some informations about hydro gel or bamboo masks as well.
Wow this was eye opening, thank you 🙏
Wow never realized this, thank you!
I need a reusable sheet mask then. Omg.
OH could you maybe do an episode on arisol spray products?
Liah where do you leave your reuseable sheetmask after using? No matter where I leave my mask it atracts so many dust..
i wash it, dry it then store it in a cabinet!
You could probably clean it, dry it, and store it in a reusable Ziploc baggy. Just make sure it's 100% dry because mold could be an issue.
This is so informative. Thank you for sharing. I will have look for one in the Netherlands
Thanks for watching!
Great question! Thank you for researching.
Glad it was helpful!

depends on each product but generally 2 years unopened!
I have the old versioner of the advant reusable mask. So tempting to buy the new version.
haha i think one is enough!!
Thanks
Fantastic
you make video 🎉
Thank you so much 😀
Can we use baby products on teenage skin? Please answer
Türkiyede bir kağıt madke 30 tl olm en temelini bile alamıyoruz
I never liked sheet mask bcos it's sticky 😵💫 so already break the habit of buying them

I am not a fan of sheet mask because it's drying after 10 minutes. I find gel mask a lot better for my skin.
I stopped using sheet masks because they are not practical. It is also a hassle for me.
India china and Pakistan pakistan have the largest cotton industry
what about the packaging, that is more concerning to me
Yep! Single use plastic for sure…

amazing ! thanks for sharing that
Thank you Liah! I've stopped using sheet masks for 3 years and I'm glad to see you share the same opinion too
I bought a reusable sheet mask last year and would like to use it more, but would appreciate some suggestions of affordable skincare to use with it!
Anything really that your skin likes!
@@LiahYoo won't this silicon sheet mask take away a big portion of the serums I applied beneath it?!
"u know, serums will stick to it as I remove it"
Can you tell us where to find it and what its name is? I've been wondering where to get one. I asked a brand and they told me to use a cheese cloth 😭
@@Ojo10 I bought the Honest Beauty mask. It’s worked well for me so far!
I learned something new today yey! Thanks for sharing Liah, your videos are so informative and so creative😁 And that clip of your younger self is so cute😍
Yay! Thank you! glad you liked it xx
Thanks for featuring me and our work at Bluebird Climate, Liah!
All the best for your small and big success in your future.
Sheets masks are not only bad for the environment but also for the skin...they're just packed with 1,2 hexanediol
Great video 👍 I never gave any thought on how sheet masks were made or their impact on the environment; I recently stocked up on them but from now on will definitely buy alternatives / reusable products

Of course!!
Thank you for this informative and easily digestible video! What are your thoughts on masks that aren’t sheet masks but carry serums like clay or charcoal masks?

시트마스크 닦토패드 등도 낭비라는 생각을 처음 하게 되었네요. 잘 보고 갑니다.
그쵸 닦토패드도 요즘엔 그래서 안 사용하고 있어요 ㅠㅠ

Can the biocellulose masks be composted?
Awesome video!! What about hydrogel sheet masks and eye patches though?
there wasn't enough information out there we can research about hydrogel :/
If anyone knows the reusable sheet mask that you can order in Europe, I would really appreciate your recommendations 😊
Amazon!
And sheet masks goes with shitty serums mostly, especially cheap ones which is so popular 😢
How about the packaging? It could be the second biggest concerns as well
