Based on the look it’s a 6.7-7 (loops sloppy) Taste is something else that needs a grade.
sitting right between Lou Malnati's (8.2) and Giordano's (8.4)... not bad for something he started as a hobby a couple years ago.

My best friend is Uncle Jerry’s daughter, Chloe! We grew up in Cary together. I remember all the weekends in elementary, middle, and high school when my family would go over to the Czerwinski’s for pizza nights. Jerry eventually built a outdoor brick oven. We would have get togethers with the Cary crew in their backyard while Chloe and Jerry would experiment with different pizza styles and recipes, letting us taste test their new za’s . Ever since I could remember, it was Chloe’s dream to start the family pizza business. She always pushed Jerry and everyone in the fam to make it happen, and sure as shit, here we are! So proud of you Clo Clo and Czerwinski fam. Love it when my loved ones dreams become a reality. Y’all deserve everything and more. HELL YEAH!

DEEP DISH/PAN PIZZA IS THE BEST

Had it yesterday. It is the best deep dish ive had.
This is the last peaceful moment this pizza place will have. Congrats on the HUGE score, everyone knows the rules.
Over the last year, this place already became a local hot spot. The type of place where every single day the local food review social media groups would be raving about them. If you go in during any dinner hours, they're usually packed already. This certainly won't make it any slower lol.

The way the owner didn’t want to bother Dave with a picture at the end just makes me love the guy even more. Seems so pure.
Zero flop and the sauce/cheese didn't immediately slide off when he grabbed a slice....extremely impressive.
It did tho.. but that's more because of the way he's eating it, standing up, one hand, rushed, didn't wait long enough to let it tighten up
Yeah man, that pizza crust has the full crunch factor and has all the toppings of a Chicago style and it held together well. Count me impressed as well.
@@bendlorI figured it would to a degree considering it’s fresh out of the oven plus there’s more sauce to slide off of vs a NY style.
@bendlor he needs to implement a 5:00-7:00 timer before he eats the pizza. It's crazy to eat fresh out of the oven pizza. The cheese almost always slides off and you can't even really taste it properly when it's so hot.

Deep dish is not supposed to be thick. The dough is typically thinner than a Sicilian. I thought Uncle Jerry’s was good but nothing special.

@@Ram44Uncle Jerry's is better than every iconic deep dish pizza in Chicago. I have had them all. Nothing comes close. Burt Katz was the only other one that was top notch.

Not really - its Cary, IL - kinda rural. They'll see a bump in business for sure, but its not gonna be a national destination.
About an hour drive from Chicago w/ no traffic. It’ll definitely get busy on the weekends.

This is one of the most unique looking pizzas I've ever seen. Would love to try it
I'm a New Englander but I had deep dish at Chicago places 30 years ago that blew my mind. This pie looked like all of that, and more with it not being quite as thick as I remember... and with that perfect crust going way up the side!!! WOW! Perfection of that style IMO!
I had it about a year ago while visiting my brother in Chicago. It's my all time favorite place. Truly a worth it visit to get.

There's a place in Big Bear, CA called Village Pizza that does one similar to this. Normal size through the slice with a giant thick crust.
It’s not deep dish, it’s more similar to pan pizza and it’s to die for.
This pizza place is LEGIT good. Hybrid deep dish style but still thin and crispy crust. Sauce is very flavorful. They were recently at a Chicagoland Pizza fest and scored very highly with expert critics. Easily the best food in Cary Illinois, and rivals some of the best pizza in the state.

Man, 8.3 is a monster deep dish score. The people running that place seem so kind. They really deserve that score, and I hope they get all the business they deserve too. Good things come to good people...who also know how to make good pizza. That crust looked top notch.
I love when Dave gets excited because he gets a good pie. I bet it makes it worth his time.
Jerry better be ready for the onslaught. That wasn't just a normal big score, that was Dave genuinely being way more impressed than he expected to be. I always shun deep dish, definitely not my style, but this looked really good.
Dave or someone needs to do a Dave Portney Pizza review map with all the scores and locations. So when we get in our cars and start driving...

Tried it the day after Dave stopped in. Didn’t even know it was there. Amazing pizza! Jerry and the staff were wonderful, I will definitely be coming back!

I was the official DJ for Jerry Garcia with the Dead when they came to NY on Long Island The people that followed the Grateful Dead were the strangest but nicest people I ever met.
Was not expecting that score for a deep dish!! Great episode Dave and Austin. Love theses kinds of episodes when you mingle with the owners/cooks/staff etc!!!
More of a pan pizza than deep dish. The high-ridge crust was misleading.

@@TheBigO-k6g It's cooked in a pan though, not like thin crust. Pan pizza is like a shallow deep dish. Deep dish is in the middle. Stuffed pizza goes further with a crust on top. The dough used in pan pizzas is different than thin-crust dough and the crust can take on different characteristics by using a pan.

Massive score for a deep dish style pizza. It seems like the best of both worlds. Thin but still has a that thick buttery crust. Zero flop which is unheard of and the cheese and sauce didn't slide off the slice like soup. Jerry and his family deserve it! Congrats!!!

Looks more like a pan pizza. Looks pretty darn good. With a score of 8.3, they're going to get packed with people. Good for them.
Not my typical style either but looks pretty damn good. I'm happy for any business that was a passion project for their child. That's the real American Dream.

As a chicago native...that is for sure a deep dish pizza you can see the fluffy/buttery crust(well I can lol) chz/sauce on top, for sure a deep dish.
However, many ppl get 'Stuffed Pizza' and 'Deep Dish' mixed..stuffed is literally like an actual pie with crust on the bottom and top...as a Chicago guy I have noticed many 'out-of-towners' get this confused and g'damiit it gives Chi pizza a bad rap.
@@bc2859 Pan pizza has the same type of crust as deep dish, it's just doesn't have as thick of a layer of cheese and ingredients. The ridge of crust on this establishment's pan pizza is particularly high so it looks like a deep dish. Both are prepared and cooked in an oiled cast-iron pan as opposed to a flat pizza that goes straight in the oven like a tavern-style thin crust.
That double take with the "whoa" You knew it was gonna be a monster score.
I did the same thing my first time eating it a little less than 2 years ago. Amazing.

I’m close to this place, we get it like 1 time a month, the best pizza to get there is called the “sweet sting”. It’s a deep dish pepperoni but it’s baked with their homemade habanero honey, and then u can get a side of it to drizzle on top, it’s sweet, it’s savory, it’s got a little spicy kick from the honey, it’s saucy, it’s cheesy, it’s crispy, ITS PERFECT. Go get yo self a slice

The story is straight out of a kitchen nightmares plot, where the owner was something completely different, then decided to open a restaurant. Hopefully it works out for them!
Well they lasted through the pandemic so it's a good bet this place will flourish.

That's one of the best looking deep dish I have seen. Hard to compare to normal pizza, it's like an entirely different craving. But when you want one, nothing else really scratches that itch.
No chance any other reviewer could eat a deep dish slice while standing, everybody knows the rules.

Deep dish is not really my favorite but this one looks really good. Keeps that deep dish pie spirit but it holds stiff and has crunch.
If I had THAT deep dish near me, I expect it would absolutely be my favorite. One of the most awesome pies I've ever seen, by looks at least.

Damn good pizza. Top 3 that I've ever had for sure. Definitely worth the 2 hour drive. Cozy, small, relaxing place.
If you have plans to go, arriving before 4pm is a must. After that their packed with a long wait line.
Tried that pizza last week. It was amazing! Definitely deserves the score Dave gave it.

I've been to Uncle Jerry's (8.3) many times. One of the best ever. Also loved your reviews of Village Pizza (7.7) and Sal's Pizza (7.6). All three are within 5 miles of me. Sal's has the best thin crust meat lover's pizza I've ever had.
I'll be eating there tomorrow, 06-29.
Driving 2 hrs on Dave's recommendation.
