This video shows how to replace a battery in a 2017 Chevy Silverado. With the right tools, anyone can do this. Thanks for watching, sharing and subscribing!
This was about the best automotive tutorial I have ever watched! Thank you! I could have easily done this without the video, as I am very mechanically inclined. However, this turned a fumbling one hour operation into about 20 minutes. Thanks again! Well done!
Your video was real helpful espcecially when autozone said they couldn't install the battery on a 2017 silverado..they said they'd walk me through but didn't happen. They loaned me some tools watched your video and was able to take out the battery myself and install the new one...guy at the front desk was like "you were able to take it out?" I said "yea thanks to RUclips and no thanks to y'all" thank you so much for this video...subscriber for life now
Thank you for this video! Went to Autozone and bought a new battery for my Mom's truck. They said they would put it in for me. Tech went out and tried and him (and a fellow employee) determined they couldn't do it because they couldn't get the top panel off. I said I'll take a look at it (this all happening in the Autozone parking lot, in the 100°f Texas heat, because we got a discount for trading in the old battery). I searched for a video and yours came up. The tech and I watched and he was able to do it! I totally don't blame them for being stumped. Modern autos are getting out of hand on how complicated they are put together. Thanks again!! ❤
Perfect video for me to replace my battery. I did it so quick the gal at autozone said “that didn’t take long!” When I took the core back. Well done video!
"Using a 13mm socket ... " SUBSCRIBED!! Thank you! Most videos omit small details like this and they really save from having to do a scavenger hunt. Also, my only feedback on the procedure would be to disconnect the negative lead and get that clear *before* removing the cover to the juncture box. Boy was I nervous trying to get the negative lead out of the way with that giant + post sticking up in the air! Thanks, Phil, for a clear, concise procedural!!
THANK YOU, ERIC FOR SUBBING!!!! I hope my other videos are just as useful to you. Honestly... I just started adding in wrench sizes. I use to not do that. I learn a lot from my subs. Thanks again!!!!
Just changed mine 2017 GMC Sierra. Thank you. Only has 30k miles but I don’t want to take the chance on my next trip. Also did the rear end differential after watching a vid. RUclips and people like you are saving me money. 👍
Just replaced mine today. Had my phone sitting on the front panel playing this video as I did it. Excellent instructions. Thanks for telling us the socket sizes too. Subscribed!
This is the first time I’ve commented on a video and totally worth popping my Cherry. This was a FANTASTIC video tutorial; very succinct and loved the step by step that wasn’t 20 minutes. Hot tip… literally… if you only have a couple inch long extender, put the cap on before you tighten the negative post clamp. The w ratchet slipped out of my hand and hit the post and sparks flew 😕 All good after I put the cap on and finished. Thank you for the video!
While I would have eventually figured it out, your video saved me tons of time. Very clearly filmed, clearly explained, and great pace. Thank you for putting this together. - saved me at least 30 min of time - much appreciated!
BTW..... I don't know what year your truck is, but my 2017 has been having weird brake issues. When pushing the brake pedal down a couple times in a row while creeping, it would get soft and not brake sometimes. Look up "recall vacuum pump Silverado" on the web. Anyway.... long story short, I just got a new vacuum pump on GM's dime due to this issue. The service rep at the dealership treated me like I was trying to rob them or something. Rude and nasty. you will have to pursue this yourself. They won't send you a notice! FAIL! Also..... my #5 ignition coil went out a few days ago. 45K miles on this truck, and I treat it very well. I'm very disappointed with this product and service. My family has been GM truck owners for 4 generations now. I hate to say it, but I"m most likely going to buy a Tundra next time.
Battery was simple change! I have a 2017 GMC Sierra 5.3L pretty much same truck. I love mine too, been lucky so far with no issues. Took it in for the recall on the brake pedal but never had a issue. Thanks again, Rick.
yes.... this issue happened after I got the recalled "calibration" "fixed"... Just be aware of it. I'd hate for your brakes to go out. Glad my video helped you out!
Funny they keep notifying me for the recall that has supposedly already been fixed on my truck? I really don’t trust the dealership anymore! Thanks for the heads up, I may put EBC brakes and calipers on mine.
Thanks for the video! Needed to swap out the battery in my 17 Sierra in a hurry today. The step to unbolt the side of the coolant reservoir was a great tip! I was looking at how stuffed in the battery was and was puzzled for a few mins. Still frustrated that I had to replace a 2.5 yr old battery....but nonetheless, I appreciate your video!
Yes.... I'm wondering if the factory put in a cheap battery, OR if there is something that drains it. guess we will find out in a couple years. Glad my video helped. I am so frustrated with the poor design of these vehicles. The engineers have zero common sense. They need to study the older models that were easy to take apart. Wait until you have to replace the headlight. You will freak! I replaced one on my Father-in-law's Ford F150. It's just as bad. check this out: ruclips.net/video/ttfuHY3JIzg/видео.html
Great tutorial video! On the GM design side, their engineers didn't do so well. Also, to the guy who installed my factory battery, thank you for removing the grab handle.
Just di this yesterday on a 2018. I wish I had seen this vid first, it's the best one I've seen. Luckily, I executed the change exactly how this tutorial showed it. Bravo!
Short, clear and straight to the point. Best of all 2018 Silverado battery changing videos. GM is disappointing... just like my 2013 3.5 ecoboost F-150 oil change.... no access from top, but from the bottom then it was high up and the filter is horizontal. It was always a mess whenever I change the oil.
All these auto companies have engineers that have zero common sense. I bet NONE of them have ever turned a wrench. You ought to see my video on changing a head light bulb in an F150.....CRAZY STUPID!
This how to video was very helpful! Thank you for posting it Phil, was able to change out my battery in 45 min using your guide. Had that same ACDelco 8859 94RPG battery give up the ghost out of no where.
Great tutorial! I did it backwards by removing/ replacing my battery, THEN searching you tube. The coolant reservoir movement trick really would have came in handy! I saw that battery, and realized all the stuff around it would have to be removed and was like what the heck! Anyway thanks for the clear instructions. 3 or 4 years from now, I'll have an easier time doing it all again...
Great video.. very helpful! I followed step by step and everything went great! I had one arch/spark when I attached the negative terminal but no shock and my kids thought it was amazing I didn't die! Thanks again..saved me big $$$ and lost time waiting for it to be repaired.
thank you .. makes it simple. 2017 with 1000 kl . its low because i got sick and couldnt drive it.. so i take it out and battery lasted about 3 starts.. nice truck but not a very good system.. thanks Phil.. took away some worry.
Thank you thank you thank you!!!! Excellent video, all the attention to detail made replacing my battery quick and easy I'm even getting kudos from the wife for saving money by doing it myself. I really appreciate the time you took to do this video, thanks a million.
@@PhilCrockett I changed out the battery a week ago following your vid. Spot on instructions. While I did leave a few pieces of knuckle skin behind, the procedure appeared somewhat daunting before I started yet turned on to be simple due to following your guidance. The daunting Factor was from not having changed out the battery on that model previously and always the number of parts to be removed. The procedure was kept KISS, "kept it simple stupid". 😁
Watched video. Took a few notes. Bodda-boom, bodda-bing. Changed battery in 15-20 minutes (+/-). Only trouble was not having a long enough socket extn. - Gotta' have a skin't knuckle or it's just too easy. Great tube.
hmmmmm...... sounds like the factor saved a little money on putting in sub quality batteries. However, I still love my Silverado. I gave my son my old 2004, and it is still running great. My dad has a 2002, and he's hardly had to do anything to it. So far, they are great machines.
Great video, tons of good info in a short time. Only thing I would add, if you buy a non ac delco battery, I bought a walmart everstart. Be aware that there are vent holes on each side. My original battery had the vent hole plugged with a plastic plug (near the positive side of battery). The walmart everstart replacement came with a plug taped to the side of the battery if you need it, but I just pulled the plug out of the original battery and put it in the walmart one. Apparently some manufacturers choose to plug one side of the battery, chevy is one of them. At least for the 2017 1500 for my application. And yes count me in for another gm sucks for this entire design, can you imagine runnning out to your wife in january and pulling the battery in some parking lot?
To make it easier to remove and replace the battery (if the battery has no handle) use a ratchet strap rigged around the center of the battery once it is disconnected from the holder tray. Circle the battery with the strap and tighten it. This will give you something to hold onto to take the battery in/out.
Great idea! It wasn't bad enough the design looks like they started with a battery and built the truck around it..they had removed the handle on my battery for some reason, lol.
Thank you so much for posting this. I can't believe all the BS on these newer vehicles. Whatever happened to just having a positive and negative cable?
I've never seen so much that needed to be done to remove a battery, ESPECIALLY on a full-size pickup. Well done, Chevy.
Not sure why they made replacing the battery so difficult but thank you for the excellent tutorial!
Thanks for watching!
