I swear it's almost like a whole other experience, honestly, of all the concerts I've been to in all my years, only one better, was Band-Maid. I hope y'all get a chance to see them if or when they come back and tour in North America. I felt bad for the band they opened for, they felt very underwhelming after hearing Hanabie...

"like a boy band almost" that's exactly what idol groups are. they are exactly what the west had as "boy bands" and "girl bands" in the 90s except that back then nobody did it in alternative music genres like metal.
They didn't do it in Japan either. The first crossover from Idol Groups and Metal is from Babymetal in 2010. Before that, the Idol Groups were purley Pop.

BABYMETAL are an Idol Pop group who sing to Metal music. The vocal style makes perfect sense to people who grew up listening to Idol Pop. I suppose it’s most appealing to men between the ages of 30-70 (and for reasons that are not pervy). Try an L.G.C. (Lollipop Candy Girl) next. It an older song about GYARU culture, which one might observe in HARAJUKU. Also, I always get a kick watching the inimitable YUKINA open the show in this old live video of ENVY - ruclips.net/video/gZII4q3Cdb4/видео.html BTW, “Hana,” rhymes with “Mama.” Same for “Hara.”
They start their North America tour in May. If you can.. go and check them out live. For my self I am going to see them in Stockhom on their Europe tour.
Babymetal is a good jumping off point to get into J-metal, like if you like Babymetal but it isnt quite to your taste but you like them enough theres other bands that arent as well known to the West in Japan that are better than Babymetal. Lovebites, Hanabie, Nemophila are awesome and thats just 3 theres so many bands that are doing things I enjoy in Japan.
