Sekiro is my proudest platinum. I'm not usually the type to go out of my way to trophy hunt but I enjoyed this game so much I used the trophies as incentive to keep playing lol
I would have the platinum, but the grind to level up is just so boring, I completed the game three times already and still not leveled enough for that trophy.
@antonioc.5778 ya I totally get that. That was the very last trophy I got. The bosses are the only way to level up at a decent rate so I got up to new game+ 7 leveling up. I think I grinded for the last like 2 techniques at the very end
@@antonioc.5778 the best way to get levels is to just keep playing through the game because you get more xp for each enemy on each ng+ playthrough (up to 7). I didn’t get all the skills until the end of my 5th playthrough, which just happened naturally because I enjoy the game so much. Just put the game down if you’re bored with it and come back to finish off the levels whenever you feel like doing another playthrough and you’ll get it eventually
I concur with the description because that's how we describe fighting games and also agree with your rhythm description. A turn based battle based on frame data of the opponent. Deciding whose turn it is next to make a move if you or the opps are + on block or - on block. The game even has its own form of DP's, lows, mids and highs. Enemies in sekiro act very similar to how you'd play a fighting game against a human or AI. Once I applied the fighting game mindset, holy cow the game clicked instantly for me.
I found it to hard but good overall. I've beaten all the souls style FS games and sekiro and ds2 are the only 2 I felt it was a bit much at times. The final boss took me like 14 hours to beat and the game just never full clicked for me even though I got through it
Easily the best combat system I’ve ever played. Unbelievably satisfying and rewarding once you get it right. From remains head, shoulders, and torso above other developers for me.
Even to this day, it’s amazing to see how Sekiro revolutionized action-combat games with its influence, yet remains surprisingly underappreciated or unknown to some players.
Sekiro had my favorite combat in any video game ever, until I played the beta for the first berserker khazan, the combat in khazan is the best most incredible experience I've had in a video game. I never thought that I'd be saying that I like a games combat more than sekiro, but it truly is an evolution of parry based combat and I highly recommend it
Sekiro was the game that proved to me (unpopular opinion warning) that From can actually make a good game outside of Armored Core and Otogi. I never really appreciated the Souls titles and absolutely hated Sekiro at first, after it finally clicked for me Sekiro jumped up into my top 10 of all time. Retroactively it made me appreciate the souls titles and eventually Elden Ring. I still prefer Sekiro to every title they've released and it's amazing how much this smaller title really pushed 3d combat forward.
You can still parry the larger monster type bosses. Doesn’t seem like it because they don’t have swords but as long as there isn’t the red kanji when they’re attacking, it’s parryable
@@Batman-jc5uc Agreed, for me souls games and soulslikes are just too difficult and I don’t get any enjoyment even when I beat a boss because I’m stressing it’s going to be even harder next time so I just give up on them. I was excited for Black Myth Wukong because they advertised it as a Hack n Slash but was extremely disappointed when it was revealed it was actually a soulslike
The reason FromSoft fans struggle with Sekiro is because your skills from the other games aren't transferable to Sekiro. You have to play it enough to get that click moment, just like you did when you played your first FromSoft game. For me, Sekiro didn't click until I started NG+. I hated my first playthrough. Now I think it's the best game From has made.
I fell into this trap initially. I was having a rough time from the onset because I was trying to play it like a dark souls game. Trying to dodge attacks, kiting enemies and bosses around waiting for an opening. It just feels wrong to play like that. Once I figured out I needed to just go IN and go full aggression it just clicked for me. The flow and rhythm of combat became more natural and my play through became much easier afterwards. Initially I didn't like the combat/gameplay being such a hardcore souls fan, but after a while I grew to deeply appreciate the fact they tried something different and very much succeeded.
Had a similar experience to yours where it took multiple attempts before the game just clicked. Went on to Platinum the game and it’s up there as my favorites of all time. Glad you had a good time!
I think of sekiro simply as the game with the best combat system ever. Not the best game overall, not even the best from software's game maybe, but their funniest to play and the most satisfying to master.
Sekiro is debatably my favorite game of all time. Once you learn a fight, you can start incorporating other moves to add your own style. It's the perfect branch between action RPGs and character action games.
I love this game despite the fact that i'm not very good at it, i feel the drive to come back and try to get better, i love the setting and the world and i can see the game being very fun and rewarding if i can get good at it
@@WernershnitzlBlack Myth Wukong is rough. I'm at the end now I'll be finished by this weekend probably. It's definitely challenging, but it's been fun lol

Wo Long borrows more from Sekiro than any other game, and no disrespect towards Wo Long, which is a fine game, but Sekiro is basically Wo Long perfected.
Wu Long isn't a bad game but it's in my opinion worse than Nioh 2 because I expected more from the team, so if you liked Wu Long then I think you're going to like Nioh 2 as well.
Great video. Despite beating Sekiro, the combat never clicked for me. I basically bullshitted my way through by finding whatever exploits I could use. It was a very slow crawl. After I played and dominated Lies of P, a few people suggested Sekiro to me. And now I have it on my Wishlist. Thabk you for reminding me about the game.
Turned based makes sense. What I always thought was a rhythm game disguised as an action game. You kind of have to find the flow of each fight to be successful at it and dance with the enemy. Each enemy has a call and response forcing you to dance to their song
For me there is a parallel between duelling in Sekiro and breathing meditation. Defend, attack, breathe in, breathe out, let go of thought and just be in the moment.
Anytime I hear someone quit Sekiro I always tell them, come back and give a second chance. And stop thinking you’re playing a souls game. I used to HATE this game with every fiber of my being, then I came back and finished Genichiro and couldn’t stop playing. Ive now gotten every achievement and come pretty often to fight bosses to test my skills.

I just finished this game last night and it's such a masterpiece. I had no idea that Japanese history and folklore was so badass, and this was my first 'real' introduction to Japanese culture/entertainment, especially since anime never did it for me. Dark Souls 1 will always be my favorite Fromsoft game, but I was blown away by their blend of cinematic and gameplay elements. I felt like I was playing a movie when the sound design and music hit at the right moments to make everything dramatic. I also felt that it had the quality storytelling and writing to back it up, which is key.
Erlang was a motherfucker! lol. I beat the game initially and then realised I had missed a secret boss, and the TRUE ending. My pride wouldn't allow me to walk away from the game at that point, not until I had beat his ass. Luckily once you get him past his first phase its downhill from there. Hard as hell but such a cool fight, absolute cinema. Hardest boss for me has to be Promised Consort Radahn, don't think I've ever been stuck on a boss that long before.
The game is so hard until you finally let go of it being a "souls-like" fromsoft game. Once you block more and dodge less you it really gets easier. You have to embrace the prosthetic tools and really utilize all of your unlocked skills. These skills and tools are not a crutch.
Owl (Father) is legit one of the best boss fights of all time IMO, everything about the game comes together so great for it. Right up there with like Sephiroth, Vergil, Ludwig, etc.

Lies of P got me really into Soul games. After I finished P, I was like "What else can I beat?" I felt like a champ completing that game. Something just clicked, and I think that I finally appreciated a good challenge. Sekiro may be my next game.
I also played the game for the first time this year back in summer and it has become my favorite game of all time, I have beaten it 15 times and have all achievements, tried out some mods and still want to keep playing even though I've already beaten the game death less 3 times
I love Sekiro. Have around 300 hours in it and finally went back and got the platinum earlier this year. Sometimes it is surprising the games you haven’t played though. You don’t seem like a big souls guy but I figured you would have played Sekiro at least for the channel as you started ramping up game reviews in recent years. Makes sense it took you a couple attempts though. Happens to a lot of people and I’m glad it finally clicked. That moment is such a moment it’s a crime how many people give up before they hit it. Lol.
One cool thing I learned today that helps a lot, in the video you said there’s no way to tell whether is about to be a thrust or sweep attack when the symbol pops up without learning the moves I thought that too but the blade will actually have a flash right when the symbol if it is a sweep and it doesn’t flash on thrusts. It’s like a glare of light on the blade for just a second when they pull back for the sweep attack
Yes, Sekiro was made by FromSoft so some things are to be expected, but it's not a Soulslike at all. If anything, is a Tenchu-like. There's a reason for everything beyond just "trying to be a different game" from what they've been making in the last decade.
My favorite FromSoft games are Sekiro and Bloodbourne, and they both were some of the most difficult times I've had in gaming, even walking away from them for months on end when I hit a wall. I also shared a similar epiphany of the turn based nature of the fighting, which helped me push through the difficulties and learn to adore these games. I think what I loved so much about Sekiro beyond its super satisfying combat, was that it had so many "OH SHIT!" moments. I thought I was at the end of the game when I beat Genichiro for the first time, and was floored when I eventually saw how much more game there was. Then there's those other surprises, like the 2nd phase of the Guardian Ape fight that I did not expect. Another of my favorite moments was the giant Dragon fight, purely because of how cinematic and badass it felt, which also felt like I was approaching the climactic end of the game at the time. I'm glad you talked about how you initially continued to bounce off of Sekiro, even after getting through Genichiro, but still gave it another shot later and came around to really enjoying it. I think that speaks a lot to how being in the right headspace / mood / circumstances, can make all of the difference in how you perceive or even play a game, which is also why I dig the concept of Retro Rebound to begin with.
Everyone in this comment section that loves sekiro, you have to play the first berserker khazan when it comes out, the beta was incredible and its the best parry based combat I've ever experienced
Seems like this is a common experience for sekiro fans, I remember playing at launch and hating it. Put the game down for 2 years and picked it up again and now it’s in my top 5 games of all time
My first playthrough I got to Lady butterfly, couldn't even get close to killing her. I stopped playing the game for a year. My second playthrough I beat lady butterfly but kinda felt like I got lucky with rng. Then I got to Genichiro and fell in love with the game a little bit more every time I went back to fight him. When I beat him I knew Sekiro is one of my favourite games of all time!!
I really wanted to enjoy this game. But I just couldn’t pass the first section. I don’t think I’ll ever go back to it. My respect to anyone who has passed this game.
I have a bad habit of taking breaks from Sekiro, then not picking it back up for at least a year, which at that point I decide to just start over. Every time I get slightly farther, but nowhere near the end. One day I'll eventually get through it(I finally forced my way through Dark Souls 1, so maybe I'll get around to Sekiro soon).
I remember my first play-through and realising when the game clicked for me when I was fighting lady butterfly how the game almost became a dance of sorts.
This game is not for every soul. Games are not made to frustrate you, that's why many people play retro games again, because that's where they get their fun from. This kind of game genre is deliberately made difficult by its developers to have a long playtime. I prefer puzzle games or survival horror over this kind of game to test my soul
This is still one of my favorite games of all time. The exhilaration i felt after beating the bosses in this game is unlike anything ive ever played before. Oddly enough, I adored the Demon of Hatred fight. He was a badass spectacle in my eyes. Very different from every other fight in the game. Tbh i think i even preferred that fight over Isshin, but that might just be the insanity speaking.
Bloodborne is my favorite game of all time, sekiro was maybe the most satisfying game and gameplay I ever tired once I got a rhythm down. The game is one of the best experiences I’ve had in my entire life
Sekiro is probably my favourite game ever. Or at the very least sharing the number 1 spot with Dark Souls. And I actually love the beast fights haha. Demon of Hatred is absolutely a Souls boss. But I still think it's an incredible fight.
Matty did you get the Shura ending? There is another "final boss" and ending that you only get with making a certain decision. And that final boss is also fantastic.
Got all the way to the final boss not learning to mikiri counter not really understanding the mechanics just trying to brute force it and kinda hating it came back later determined to beat the final boss, finally figured it out learned to play and beat it 3 more times for the plat now probably my fav game of all time. The story and characters are also slept on and by far the best from FromSoft IMO
This is an amazing game! I love pretty much every boss/mini boss excpet for Chained Ogre, and Blazing Bull...I even enjoyed Demon of Hatred...I had so much fun with this game that I played all the way to NG+6 without taking a break! I never do that with games...Even with the Dark Souls games the most I did was NG+3...
Bloodborne is the first, and only so far, FromSoftware game I’ve played (and platinumed). I absolutely loved it and was hooked. I picked up Sekiro during the psn’s recent holiday sale, can’t wait to dive in after I get through the rest of the games I picked up.
I did finish the game years ago but I never felt like I was “good” at the game, just lucky lol. I like what you said about viewing it as a turn based game and I think I’ll give it another playthrough in that mindset!
Just started playing Sekiro, too! I love it, but I'm scared. lol Haven't had that fear of playing a Souls game in a long time, so the hesitation I feel before going into a fight is oddly refreshing.
I just did a charmless, Bell Demon run and it made me appreciate a lot of the prosthetics that I'd basically ignored. They all have their uses and situations where they shine. My only real complaint in the game is Terror. It's terrible with the added buildup of charmless.
I think Sekiro may be the hardest game that I can actually complete. I almost gave up on it while fighting Genichiro the first time but once I did beat him it “clicked” for me. Probably after like 30 tries haha. Love the game and eventually beat it on NG + and beat demon of hatred legit and not making him fall off the edge. Shout out to FightinCowboy for some of his boss tutorials which I needed.
sekiro is the most perfect game ever made its like a hand watch yeah you can find batter and bigger watches with diamonds but some of those have some gears made out of gold but some are just metal and not as good. but sekiro is pure 24-karat gold yes it has fewer gears and it's not as big as other, but it has alllllll gold gears there is nothing that you can say to fairly bring it down
That's very interesting, I never thought of sekiro as a turn based game, I think of it as a precision action game, I focused on honing my observation and reflexes inorder to play as aggressively as possible, I don't run and I stand in the enemy face and just deflect, the guardian ape gave me trouble till I stood still and started deflecting everything, and second phase was even easier because deflecting the sword was not hard at all.
I played Sekiro like a souls game. Beat all bosses by getting their VIT to zero, not deflecting their gauge to full. Because of that, the beast bosses weren't that hard. Demon of Hatred only killed me 6 times. 💪

Lol.
We truly need a sequel, for the mechanics and for the story. Or at least a prequel, just another Sekiro title please
Loving the new artistic thumbnails !
You missed the other ending boss, ashura isshin, ashura ending
My favorite game FromSoft made. I still play it to this day.
Parrying IS attacking in Sekiro. Parrying is more important than attacking, period.
I beat the guardian ape 2v1 on my first try doing my first play through of the game and I don’t think I’ve ever been that nervous playing a video game
Everyone in this comment section that loves sekiro, you have to play the first berserker khazan when it comes out, the beta was incredible and its the best parry based combat I've ever experienced
My hats off to you Matty! Sekiro is the only fromsoftware game I've never completely finished 😅
I've gotten all three or four endings it's so good
Seems like this is a common experience for sekiro fans, I remember playing at launch and hating it. Put the game down for 2 years and picked it up again and now it’s in my top 5 games of all time
Finished this for the first time a couple of weeks ago.
What a game.
Favorite game ever. Some of the best combat and bosses ever made
This game is not for every soul.
The game is one of the best experiences I’ve had in my entire life
Even though the game is a bit too much on the easy side (you can even resurrect if you die...) , it was a very enjoyable experience
Sekiro is a rhythm game. Thinking of it that way always helps me get in the zone.
Sekiro is probably my favourite game ever. Or at the very least sharing the number 1 spot with Dark Souls.
And I actually love the beast fights haha. Demon of Hatred is absolutely a Souls boss. But I still think it's an incredible fight.
Sekiro on a crt is crazy lol
Matty did you get the Shura ending? There is another "final boss" and ending that you only get with making a certain decision. And that final boss is also fantastic.
Simply a masterpiece.
The GOAT of pure action games ❤ Even if my most beloved FS will always be Bllodborne ❤
Game is so good, I have the platinum and just recently re beat it on steam
Probably my favourite game of all time, the last boss made me quit for 6 months :D
The final boss tells you "hesitation is defeat" for a reason
I got stuck on the corrupted monk and gave up, need to go back and give it another go.
I made it to Mibu village ,took a break and never went back . One day tho
Sekiro 2 should be an open world stealth ninja game 🔥. Tenchu and Elden Ring had a baby should be Sekiro 2
sekiro is the most perfect game ever made its like a hand watch yeah you can find batter and bigger watches with diamonds but some of those have some gears made out of gold but some are just metal and not as good. but sekiro is pure 24-karat gold yes it has fewer gears and it's not as big as other, but it has alllllll gold gears there is nothing that you can say to fairly bring it down
I simply adore this game. 100%ed it just to prove it to others.
Sekiro can kiss my butt, twice. I'm stuck on the Horseman boss.
It's not a turn-based game, it's a fighting game straight up
sekiro has the best combat in any game
