  • The crew of bottom up boats where pushing their J109 yacht to the limit in the annual narrows series. With the wind gusting over the 25 knots they were the only boat in the race who was brave enough to go for the kite on a tight reach.
The crew were working hard to get the kite set and under control, once set it it was downwind reaching all the way to the bottom mark before turning and heading back to Strangford Sailing Club.
The boat speed over ground topped out at over 13 knots with the the crew trimming the spinnaker perfectly as we flew downwind.
The A3 Spinnaker was the perfect choice for the fast downwind reaching leg from Mark 11 to 17. The J109 yacht showed how sea worthy they are handling the 35 knot gusts with ease.
The team at bottom up boats hope you enjoy this footage of the our J109 flying downwind on a broad reach in over 25 knots.

Typo in the title, somehow you've accidently put 35kts when it is obviously only 15

We were getting just over 13 SOG from the GPS. Last time I checked the J109 polars you needed slightly more than 15 knots the get anywhere near that 😁

@@BottomUPBoats Current/tide will play havoc trying to use SOG with BSP polars. No whitecaps or misting says it's not 35kts

It's nowhere near 35, that's what the man simply wanted to say

Indeed, you know there is a party one the bow when the dreamers at the back end of the bus are calling for the party at the back to come and join them at the rear of the bus 😁

Not a lot of white horses for 35 kts.

Nearly dead down wind and up to two knots of tide running the same way make it look calmer than it was.
This not so great moment was on the beat before this run, I think you would agree that it looks a bit different with wind against tide and the camera looking forward.

Net message, hurry up and get setup so you can get to the back of the bus.

They are always hard to see when you are looking down wind, even less so due to a couple of knots of tide which was running the same way as the breeze.
This video was taken 15 minutes before this one with the camera facing upwind.. Not our greatest moment, with that said everything is a learning opportunity :)
