      It all depends on what State or the weather. Example: In Montana the pines howl in the wind. It is very loud.
      In West Virginia, it is so quit, (especially with the snow.) you can hear the squirrels walking on the trees.
      In WV sound travels a long ways down the hollers, but in MT, WA sound does not travel very far.
      I never really understood why. It must have something to do with the size of the mountains.

You will get less mold and mildew because the place can vent/breathe. Also there is room for expansion, you don't need a whole lot but you need a little. So you did the right thing.

    MIke: I suggest using your own machine. Reasons: 1) Rental - you have long hard push days, hard on your body and mind. (Yours: You can take your time.) I run a lot of machinery - my guess is the big one will only be twice as fast as your current machine. 2) You will be surprised who the "large size" takes more time to pivot without damaging the trees you want to leave! 3) Watching your videos - you ENJOY taking your time, relaxing, and doing an excellent job! You will not feel the same - about running the big machine on a tight timeline. I almost NEVER comment - but you feel like a good neighbor, thus my opinion.

    The best way to equalize the temperature in your game room and shop is to use the fan on the stove but also to use ceiling fans. In the winter you run the ceiling fans to pull the heat upward so you don’t feel a draft. It keeps the hot air from collecting on the ceiling and warms your walls and floors. Of course, the best way to warm your floors it to hook up your radiant floor heating!

    • @davidmorse8432
      @davidmorse8432 6 месяцев назад +1

      Most ceiling fans have a reverse motion switch. But few people use them. Either way, they get the job done. Warm air rises and good air circulation is key to a comfortable home.

    • @profdave2861
      @profdave2861 6 месяцев назад +3

      @@davidmorse8432 You’re absolutely right that many people don’t use the reverse mode. Both blowing down and pulling it up will work, but pulling up (the “reverse mode” as you note) if far more comfortable in terms of drafts . The other advantage of pulling the air up is that it more effectively distributes the heated air across the ceiling and down the walls, then into the centre of the room (or wherever the fan is) and back up again. I have heated with wood and used ceiling fans for almost 40 years with almost never using the furnace (except when I ran out of wood!)

    • @davidmorse8432
      @davidmorse8432 6 месяцев назад +2

      @@profdave2861 I have used wood for heat since 1984. It is good for a person in so many ways. I prefer to split by hand as it is great cardio-vascular exercise. Storing, stacking, and fueling is also good to keep a person active. Inactivity is our nemesis, especially as we age.

    Hey Mike, my experience with heavy machinery is that you can save the wear and tear on your excavator by renting and probably save expensive repairs to yours down the road. I had a guy come dig 100 trees for me with a 35,000 lb. excavator in less than 10 hours. He didn't cut or pile them, just dig and push them. with your experience on one you can handle that job easily in less than a week.

    You know... Evan with the YT Channel "Country View Acres" installed a solar energy system with a couple of back up sources of power trying to minimize the amount of power he pulls from the grid. As part of his analysis he tested all of his household circuits to get an idea of how much power his various appliances use. To his surprise, his ceiling fans were some of the biggest draws of power. So as you do your analysis, be sure to include how much it costs to run the fan weighed against the difference in ambient temperature or whatever. I was surprised to see that the ceiling fans pull more than most of his major appliances (probably because he has these huge cathedral ceilings and so he leaves the fans running all the time versus using the stove or dryer or dishwasher intermittently.

    It would be cool if you did an episode on excavator and skid steer, and your tractors on maintenance, stuff like tracks. I’m sitting here watching the video wondering now that you had the excavator for a while how the tracks are holding up and when you might expect to replace Those and just a general idea of what somebody getting an excavator for use like you do might have to pay for maintenance costs. I think for the homesteader types your opinion on that would be helpful, it’s hard to gauge from a professional or industrial use because they use them differently and put a lot more hours on them.

    Wear and tear on the smaller machine is much more especially on the pins and bushings.

    Mike, I wonder what a fireplace made out of stumps would look like. This could be useful for watching the clearing and making a fire.

    I think renting the machine is a great idea. It will save wear and tear on your machine and it will be exciting for you and the viewers to see. Change it up and do it MIKE!!!!!!!!!

    Vortex corporate office is only about 45 minutes north of me in Wisconsin. I haven’t taken a tour of the facility, but it’s supposed to me nice. They have shooting seminars and other activities if you’re ever in the area. Most of the higher end optics companies have no fault replacement/repair warranties.

    Love the content Mike. It makes sense to get a bigger machine while the weather is still cooperating and getting it done with less time, etc. I live in the Greater Toronto Area and its like a concrete jungle here. I moved up here in Richmond Hill from Toronto back in 1978. We still had open roads and no real traffic to talk about. With all the immigration our PM is letting in it's impossible. I miss the open spaces like you all have :)

    Nice bucks on the camera network! Seems enough for the land parcel for years to come. Hope CWD doesn't ravage herds in either place. Go with the bigger excavator and get the job done in much less time and then cut as much firewood chunks for the splitter. Why not have a firewood "party day" and get all of those poles into chunks. Then, spend the whole day splitting while the big bucks walk by.
