I see some people love the 16 and others feel very dissatisfied. I wasn’t blown away by the 12 initially but weirdly, coming back to it after a year ish on the second half of the bottle I remember just adoring it so I’m still very much wanting to get the 16 but if I’m initially not blown away again, I’ll definitely leave it to sit again. I think I remember lemon shortbread on the 12 which really sold it to me.
Also the extra funk that you got from the 16, on the nose especially is something that’s got me very interested now, loved the review, cheers Jon! 🔥

Thanks. I think most people are sharing they did not like the 16 at first, but universally enjoyed it more after resting.

Love the Kilkerran 12. It’s right up there with Springbank 10 for me. The Kilkerran 16 sounds fantastic. Cheers and enjoy!

Great look at Kilkerran Jon. Tough to get in Ontario but will do what I can to seek them out. Both expressions sound great!

The 12 is excellent, and this version of the 16 hit home for me. It was long open though, and I'm told that is part of it. Cheers!

Hello Jon! I got the Kilkerran 16 at Wine and Beyond in Windermere area. In the first two month or so this whisky was underwhelming. It became completely different whisky after 6 months or so when the bottle level became 50% or so. I totally agree with your tasting note. It has nice balance of citrus, slightly salty caramel and earthiness. Cheers Jon! 🥃

This is long open, so it must be more like the "after 6 months". Thanks for sharing, cheers!

Ah the ever illusive Kilkerran 16. I've been a fan of Kilkerran 12 and have a bottle or two on hand but will not shy away from pulling a trigger on the 16 if I see a bottle. I believe the 8 CS I have will be better compared against other islay peaty offerings vs. comparing against the 12 or 16. Great bottles. Thanks for this age vs age compare Jon. Have a great rest of the wknd.

Thanks! From the comments, I benefited from this being open so long. I enjoyed it, but many here seem to say it did not deliver, or it did so after some time open. Thanks for dropping in!

Jon, that's a really interesting comparo. I've got both bottles (although my 16YO is the "2% ex-Madeira"). Some folks didn't care for the 16YO, but I really like it. I agree with those who say it needs some time and head space. Kilkerran is hard to find now in Australia and is only found via ballot and/or a hyper-fast mouse click. So I'm working off my previous purchases. I love what I have, for sure. Cheers!

I wish I had a few samples of other 16 yo, just for comparison. Tough that it is so hard to find now. Thanks for sharing your experience with it.

Kilkerran is as rare as hen's teeth around here, but the 12 does appear occasionally. It's a 'If you see it, buy it ' scenario. And the 16 just sounds like a winner to me.
I find the 12 to be pretty much as you've described. It's certainly not what would be classified as a smooth, or 'clean' whisky. I haven't had anything out of Campbeltown that wasn't a thoroughly enjoyable experience, and Kilkerran is no exception.
But I'm pretty sure that I'm preaching to the choir...
Cheers to the weekend, Jon! 🥃🥃

Yep, I'm up hear singing Bass to your recommendations! Thanks for dropping in. I have not seen the 16 on the shelves, but somehow James found it, and drove it over so I could enjoy it. Wow. Good friend. I hope you are warm and enjoying a good book or anything like that for a winter moment. Cheers!

@@WhiskyNeighbour Books are in no shortage around here, as I'm sure you can imagine! 😉
Lots of snow and pretty cold, though not quite what you have been dealing with out there.
Going no further than next door this evening. I see a game of cards and a dram of K12 in my near future.
O' blast it all. Plows just went through. So, some shoveling in my future as well.
      Stay warm!

Great review Jon. Perhaps if you have Longrow it might be interesting to see it side by side with a Kilkerran.

Would love to see a few re-reviews of some old standards. I can't get most of the things you review these days. Laphroaig 10 re-reviews maybe. I just got a bottle of Highland Park 12 that isn't like it used to be....or is it?

Great idea. I seem to be on this hunt for always new. It would be good to come back to some old standards. Wish I had kept a few old bottles to do a head to head. Memory and even notes just are not as good! Thanks for watching anyway
