A good friend of mine that runs a local grocery store got me a bottle of Blanton's; and I paid retail at 65$! Will be my first time trying it as it is very rare here in Iowa! I have had chance to purchase before but at 139.99 I passed! Thank you for your content; your tasting notes are a great help making choices on what to spend on a limited budget!
Hey guys, we’ve seen the OF 1924 here in North Carolina already (last couple weeks of December they started showing up in Charlotte)… right around $100…
@czrs85 That's been Old Forester period for me since Jackie Zykan left. The whiskey didn't get bottled if she thought it didn't taste right and it definitely doesn't.
Im a big big fan of hunting and bunkering. Drive around looking for those crazy deals on good whisky n whiskey and bourbon .when i hit those half price deals i will hit the 6 pack boxes and put them in the bunker shed. My last was laiphroiag 10 at a truly amazing 25. When its at whiskey exchange at 70 plus .i put 3 6 packs into the bunker..i got old bottles in there that atd hitting crazy money. At only 10 yrs to 15yrs..i hot older ones. But theyre mine all mine .cackle cackle ...top tip..bunker bunker bunker .takes some getting going .but once you are at the point where you can sit on your bunker .and add slowly and buy drinking bottles cheap n leave thr bunker its all gravy .im a working man's price point guy..but i got there eventually...go bunker you guys..you will love yourself in the end. A trip to the bunker is a real treat. When chosing s drinking bottle...🎉😮 Typos. Doh......no...my last bunker was the Jamesons special edition,Jameson united. football box bottles. at 20..n a bunch of Grouse bourbon cask boxes and ruby port sherry cask boxes. At 120 uk a 6 pack box. Into the bunker you go.. i blew my monthly budget on all of them .the football ones will blow up in short order. you cant find them allready .. buker bottles .all punching way above 20 quid .today. Great find this month.
I grabbed a Redwood Empire Devil's Tower high rye bourbon at MSRP this week - really good! I feel like it's right down your alley. Looking forward to your review when you get a bottle.
Y'all are out here doing the Lord's work, fellas. My taste is a little too hefty for my wallet at times, so this channel is a great guide and an even better source of wholesome content. Keep it up, but don't burn yourselves out. Much love from South Georgia.🤙
For all the Old Forester fans out there...The pricing is a kick in the face and they are going the route of Campari and pricing their new releases out of the hands of the drinkers/hobbyist so they can take part in the secondary market. The pricing on the OF1924 will be $115 retail...
@@christopherm.2413 Oh yeah, i get it. Have been in the hobby for a little over a year now and I've already figured it out. Thankfully i am not a tater and i don't have to have the allocated items...SOOO many things sitting on shelves that are better than anything allocated. I am in the DFW market...the secondary and a handful of people "run" the whiskey world here. There's 5-6 guys that somehow end up buying majority of the bottles and flip them. Until stores start implementing ways (and there are easy easy ways to do it) to curtail the flipping, the world of high prices will continue and they will go up more and more.
@@The_Babbling_Brooks but it kind of is when your competitors are putting out sub $50 10 year bottles. I get the $10 per year thing, but in my opinion the $10 per year idea is antiquated and old school. If some can do a 10 year for $35 then others can too…the reason OF is putting it at $100+ is because of the secondary market in my opinion.
Devils tower hit stores around me (Springfield Mo) the week before Christmas. They went fast but I’m not sure how many the store got in. I think batch 1 was 25 barrels.
Will likely buy a bottle of 1924 at some point to try it, but loving the barrel proof-blue label-at around $80 and 130 proof. Currently, my favorite high proof along side the Heaven Hill family you mentioned; EC and Larceny. Thanks for another great episode!
I am just getting into bourbon and have only tried about 6 lower to mid priced bourbons, so I am just a baby. I was in Atlanta for the new year and was amazed at the selection compared to Alabama. Anyway, after literally 2 hours of pondering, with a dead cell phone. I picked up a bottle of Redwood Empire Pipe Dreams for $35. For me, I hit the jackpot! Perfect for a beginner. I was getting discouraged with my other selections and thought I would just mainly stick with my Knob Creek 9 yr. Now I can’t wait to try out other Redwoods, next time in Georgia. I really enjoy your podcast! Keep up the great work.
@@DLFloyd I actually would have gotten a 13th colony, but they only had the rye version at the time. I came so close to getting the rye. Thanks for the suggestion. Yes, our secret.
@@MarkDuff-o8v Tim the tour guide was the one who gave me the information about the Rye being released. He was great! The Wheated is currently my fav from Green River, but can't wait to try their Rye
No plans for 2024 other than taking a bit of a break and enjoying what I have purchased over the past year. In addition to bourbon I think it is time for me to partake in a number of the craft whiskies that I have purchased. I live in BC, Canada and here there are basically two releases a year, one in June and the other in November, so I have time to save up.
OF1924 has been logged as $114.99 as Michigan state minimum. I was really hoping it’d stay with other whiskey row series products as $55-$65 in Michigan. 😕
Most people were hoping for that including me. So now I probably won't be bothering with it. They're doing that knowing that their repeat buyers of the others won't be getting this one. Disappointed with the company for the choice.
Well you got a new follower because of these two dudes. I like your page heading to the blog soon, keep the info coming because we need all the help we can get navigating this crazy market!
I grabbed an OF 1924 at my local ABC store in Raleigh, NC last week...it was $115 + tax. It's phenomenal and if you can grab a bottle go for it but I'm not sure if it's worth $115
Happy New Year guys. I bought rare breed Rye last year. And I'm not a Rye person, but it was very good. I think I only have a couple pores left. And I've been putting off drinking it for now it's that good.
I really enjoy the channel, and I am fairly new to whiskey. Did you ever make a Bourbon 101 video, if so, would you send me a link. I would love to see a video that explains some of the items you frequently mention. For example, cask strength, allocated vs. non-allocated, bonded, single vs. double-barrelled, etc. Keep up the good work!
What I am looking for this year. I am not as in tune on the market as you guys so my list has stuff that is already on your shelf, but mine is bare. 4Roses 135th, old forester 1924, 1920, 1910. Any bardstown or barrel bourbon, Blanton's at MSRP. (cheapest in my area buck 30). and because of Kurt I wanna try Hibiki. And also, something new different that is available. thanks guys and keep it up!!!!!
Been enjoying your program for about 6 months now ( though I’ve watched many of your older programs getting caught up) You’ve turned me on to Wild Turkey and Old Forester products both of which I’d never tried before. Of the limited barrel proofs my favorite is Larceny 9/23 closely followed by Bernheim original b923. My wife and I are shocked how nice they both sip considering the proof pt. Was fortunate to find a back up to the Larceny. Not lucky with the Bernheim.
I'm not specifically on the hunt for any particular or special bourbon, I have been drinking a lot of single malts recently. It honestly has been a long time since I have had Woodford; I haven't really explored anything from Michter's. There are options for me I think I can easily obtain. If an allocated offering comes my way, and I am willing to pay the price, I'll get it. I'm going to keep it simple and have fun.
Bourbon is blowing up in the uk. I love that cos im a scotch man at heart and it draws attention away n price is falling for good scotch. . But rye whiskey is in my heart too . following bullets massive following more bourbons are slowly trickling into the uk. .more .,??yes please. Its got to be good n that isnt always price point..!!! But more brands please to the UK. . Great channel..We are finally getting off the J D N Bullet..n discovering new brands ..its heart warming...long may thd moon shine on your stills .best of .......UK .
What Bourbon would you recommend to purchase to age? I have a new granddaughter and would like to make a purchase and save it for her for her wedding toast. So storing it in the liquor cabinet for 20 years??? in the 100.00 range is ok. Thank you
Blogs are saying the OF 1924 is around $115 msrp. Thats unfortunate. I don't really think there is a bottle on the market I'd give over $100 for unless it's a gift for someone else.
Don’t know if you guys have tried anything from Chattanooga Whiskey but they have a bottled in bond vintage series release coming out in June. They have some really good and interesting bottles. Also looking forward to Thirteenth Colony next release of their double oaked - should be really soon. As always love your content!
Managed to get my hands on Redwood Empire's two new releases early (Devil's Tower and Foggy Burl - a single malt) due to an "error" at a local store. Getting ready to crack those open!
Rare breed rye is on my shelf and backed up as is the 101 rye always. Disappointed with the price of the OF 1924 if it stays at 114 it will be a one time purchase. I’ll have to check out that site about whiskies coming out. Thanks. Enjoy!!
I understand that you are doing a barrel pick with Cedar Ridge in Iowa. I think you would enjoy their BiB Rye in that $50 price range as well as their Double Barrel Bourbon. Also, Steeple Ridge from Lonely Oak here in Iowa is putting out some tasty stuff in that same price range.
Online I saw the 1924 of $150 and its not available in southeastern Massachusetts yet , the Elijah Craig toasted barrels are all over the place here and the price has dropped from $99 to around $60 over the last few months and more than that most allocated bottles don't make it up here for some reason. Only a few from the biggest producers.
If you are looking for newer distilleries to check out try anything by Bluegrass Distillery out of Lexington, Ky. but supposed to move to grain to glass facility in Midway, Ky.. I had some a few years ago and thought some were pretty good. Haven't had any since because they don't come to Ohio. TonyB
Off topic some, however if you have a chance or maybe you have already, consider giving Benchmark a try, it's from Buffalo Trace. Trying some single barrel tonight with my wife along side some BT single and Eagle Rare. It stands up well with the other two in my opinion.😊
Bernheim only did batch A and B. I got batch B...one of the best bottles I got this year. Just got the Devil's Tower...very unique...I think you both will enjoy it.
Great review....as always. 2024 will be interesting, seems the market is becoming more active with "toasted" and "cigar blends" on top of all the finished bourbons. I genuinely hope the DSPs keep their pricing in line. Secondary prices are enough of a kick in the gut, I would be disappointed if the DSPs start chasing up prices of their special releases because they know people will pay the price regardless. Its tough to grow the market when you offer base options, then overprices special releases. 2024 is definitely going to be a "value" kind of year..... Cheers!
I didn’t know until recently that Julian Van Winkle produced Pappy out of Bernheim Wheated Bourbon in between the old stitzel Weller and the current BT whiskey he uses today.
Great list and Happy New Year! 🎉Always look forward to hearing your recommendations and opinions...you haven't steered me wrong in the past...discovered Old Forester 100, 1920, Old Grand Dad 114 and Wild Turkey Rare Breed through you guys 🥃🥃🥃
Here in Canada, I am still hunting for any cask strength Elijah Craig, Four Roses, or 1792.....never seen them yet. I have won Blantons reserve and gold edition and Col EH Taylor in lotteries, but the cask strength bottles are harder to find up here. Those and the Staggs wich are rare to find...
Well to start the New Year off, I had a taste of Wild Turkey Bourbon. I normally buy Wild Turkey 101 Rye..... Found out I like the too. Who would have thunk it...
This year will be a pull-backyear. Except for a couple of items left on my list from last year, I'll just be working on existing stocks and only replenishing my budget go-tos. But, if i happen to see a great deal (like, for example, when I found OF 1920 for half price at Walmart or Glenfiddich 14 for $24 at the supermarket) I'll grab those. No more chasing the best new thing (that more often than not turns out to be a disappointment anyway).
WT RB Rye is so dang good you have to try it. I drink the 101 Rye on the regular and would drink the RB rye all the time but for the price. You can pick up a bottle for $50 near me
For sure the 1924 is one I’m keeping my eyes out for. The EC’s for sure! There are others which I need to dig into like the Green River stuff and Bardstown Origin stuff. 2024 is the year to try new bourbons and ryes.
Yellowstone toasted is my favorite available toasted bourbon. Rare breed rye is pretty good if you can find it for a decent price. Not a huge fan of the bardstown origins black label but I applaude then for finally releasing something at below 100$ price point
Not a 24 release but if you guys could get your hands on a 2023 templton rye barrel strength it’s 118 proof I believe and I really enjoy the flavors. I found it for about 50 bucks
I got an email to order old Forrester 1924 MSRP was 115 and it sold out immediately. I was in a liquor store in Connecticut. They had it on the shelf for 219.
Woodford Batch Proof and Kilchoman 100% Islay. Kilchoman did release already, but I'm waiting for it to arrive in the States. I have the 11th and 12th Editions, now I need the 13th Edition
If you have not tried Rustic River from Whole Foods give it a shot. Not many people are aware of it and it's from Green River Distillery. It's AWESOME and under $30.00!!!!
Where do you guys get the info on what’s releasing? is there any platform that tells you all the allocated whiskeys and when they are supposed to come out?
I’m a fan of good finishes. And yes I still like a solid straight bourbon but like Kurt said once you’ve had an Amburana finish they’re all kinda the same, that’s how I feel for bourbons that aren’t spectacular they all kind of fall back into they’re kinda similar and you don’t need a variety to cover different flavors. But give me a good bourbon that’s been maple finished, calvados finished, rum finished, tequila finished and you got yourself a lot of variety. So I’m looking forward to a lot of the finished stuff this year on top of the typical ECBP and LBP. Blood Oath 10 Cab Franc and Merlot finish Lucky Seven Brandy Cask finish Good Times and Nelson Bros have a lot of finished stuff dropping this year. Maybe when you do a lot of things decent you don’t do anything great but we will see.

Managed to get my hands on Redwood Empire's two new releases early (Devil's Tower and Foggy Burl - a single malt) due to an "error" at a local store. Getting ready to crack those open!
I’m dying to hear how they are!!??!?!?
No need to hunt for.Bourbons to spend a ridiculous amount of money on. Already have what makes me happy readily available!
Old Forester 1924 is really nice.
Rare breed rye is on my shelf and backed up as is the 101 rye always. Disappointed with the price of the OF 1924 if it stays at 114 it will be a one time purchase. I’ll have to check out that site about whiskies coming out. Thanks. Enjoy!!
Absolutely love ComingWhiskey. Jacob really knows his stuff.
My main store has had RB Rye on sale for $48.99 before, great deal there.
Wild Turkey rye is really good. It is amazing you haven’t tried it yet!
You guys should consider opening up the bar to your patreon supporters. I’m sure folks would be more than happy to chip in try some of those bottles!
The Berheim SB release was fantastic. Didn’t know what I had til I got home with it. A wheat whiskey that disappeared quickly
Bernheim only did batch A and B. I got batch B...one of the best bottles I got this year. Just got the Devil's Tower...very unique...I think you both will enjoy it.
The devils tower already showed up in stlouis recently along with their American single malt called foggy burl
Yep, I think even Lot B as recent as 2012 has at least some Bernheim juice in it
Just tried the rare character apricot brandy barrel finished and fellas…good heavens it’s good
Great list and Happy New Year!
Agree on Elijah Craig BP. For those near a Binny’s, their latest pick is worth a try.
Weldon Mills puts out some pretty good product. Bottled in NC
Trenton got me hooked on Rye’s. Smoke Wagon rye is by far my new favorite whisky.
Well to start the New Year off, I had a taste of Wild Turkey Bourbon. I normally buy Wild Turkey 101 Rye..... Found out I like the too. Who would have thunk it...
Some good stuff coming up. Hoping to find some goodies myself!
I saw a bottle of Elijah Craig Toasted Barrell in my area of Indiana and remember that you guys said before it was meh. Glad I passed on that one.
This man speaks his truth that is informed from his extremely limited perspective. Can’t hate that
This year will be a pull-backyear.
You can pick up a bottle for $50 near me
I'd love to hear the SLB review on the 2 different laser codes (A22 vs A23) on the EC C923. I've heard there's a vast difference in taste.
I heard it's not vast, just a little on the finish. Would like to hear what SLB thinks too
For sure the 1924 is one I’m keeping my eyes out for. The EC’s for sure! There are others which I need to dig into like the Green River stuff and Bardstown Origin stuff. 2024 is the year to try new bourbons and ryes.
PS… just looked up price here in NC.. 1924 $115 😮
Larceny BP A124 is a hitter, absolutely delicious. Been a lot more impressed w the larceny releases recently than ECBP, c923 being the major exception
In my area, Plano, TX, WT Rare Breed is $48 and rye is $61. Curious why the Rye is so much higher? Love the show. Thanks Kurt and Trenton
Yellowstone toasted is my favorite available toasted bourbon. Rare breed rye is pretty good if you can find it for a decent price. Not a huge fan of the bardstown origins black label but I applaude then for finally releasing something at below 100$ price point
The Bardstown BIB Orgin is great.
1924 is around $100 MSRP, and already on the secondary for around $350 early on. We'll see how shelf stable it is.
I saw a review on r/bourbon. The guy paid $115 for his. Bought at an ABC store.
Not a 24 release but if you guys could get your hands on a 2023 templton rye barrel strength it’s 118 proof I believe and I really enjoy the flavors. I found it for about 50 bucks
Great episode guys, hoping for a better 2024.
I believe it’s “Devils Town” by Redwood. Looking forward to it.
Just got a bottle of Devils Tower but haven’t opened it yet. If I can get another I’ll gladly send it your way!
My mouth is already watering for the OF 1924..... Can't wait!
Happy New Year fellas. Bernheim came out with at least a B923 batch this year
The Bardstown Copper & Kings was an early collab. Those square bottles were the initial collab releases.
Crazy you guys don’t have more love for Lacerny BPs.
Blood Oath 10 Cab Franc and Merlot finish
Lucky Seven Brandy Cask finish
Good Times and Nelson Bros have a lot of finished stuff dropping this year. Maybe when you do a lot of things decent you don’t do anything great but we will see.
Should do a review on the different high west finishes. Recently picked up the high west finished in Cabernet Sauvignon barrels and it is delicious!
If you guys haven’t tried it, you should. Baller by St. George. It’s affordable and interesting.
Def need to try WT Rare Breed Rye. I'm not a rye guy per say, but it is delish. 👌
How about the cask strength Old Forester Rye,did you like that ?
Willet has a Single Malt that is awesome.
Only Trenton can pull off a hair day like that.lmao
😂😂
Before Christmas I grabbed a few 1924s in NC for 123 after tax. Evidently it was an accidental release, not mad about that!
