Thank you so much for the reminder, Jon. I used to own a JAX handheld emulation game with Dig Dug and I did know this strategy, but that was over 12 years ago and I stupidly sold the JAX about 11 years ago. I bought a Pandora 9 console about 12 months ago with Dig Dug included. I was playing Dig Dug just a couple of days ago and had completely forgotten about this trick.
I’m a gen x grownup too and I think of this game as an arcade classic, even though I never played it enough to get good at it. You also got me wanting to dig into Haunted House for the 2600, which I never played a kid
I experienced what was likely a once-in-a-lifetime event in Dig-Dug, playing the Steam version. I managed to kill the last monster with a rock, and still get the veggie before the level ended. This was possible because killing the monster triggered an extra life. While the yodel tune played I was still able to move and I just happened to be next to the center of the screen. This was so mind-bogglingly rare of an event I felt cheated for not getting a Steam achievement.
Yeah, I remember learning that in the arcade (Circuit Circus, Guildford Town Centre) and while dig dug wasn't my favourite game, it was still well worth a throw or two and those bonus points built up real fast.
Similar to another NAMCO title, Pac-Man. The bonus prizes appear after eating 67-72 dots (including energizers). The same thing carried over to Midway's hacked versions, Ms. Pac-Man and Pac-Man Plus. However, on Jr. Pac-Man, you need to eat 100 dots to trigger the bonus prize.
I miss digdug, I never been to an actual arcade, as in a dedicated building for arcade cabinets, but I always loved playing the cabinets at bowling alleys, pizza restaurants like round table and mountain Mike, or arcades that are connected to hotels/casinos, I'd just be in the arcade with my cousins, my favorite games were the simpsons game, digdug, and one of those shooter games.
I love Dig Dug's brilliant music and sound design. I had a meaningful and longer message but stupid RUclips mobile deleted it. I played the arcade version on my friend's computer in the 90s and it played in a window, not in DOS, which is pretty cool of Namco. It seemed pretty faithful. Okay, I have mostly retyped the message so I hope RUclips doesn't delete it again!
Okay, so I also had this in the original message :that I was sure it was a pretty faithful port because it had the superior arcade sound not the worse sound in home console, non-cd releases. To get the sound I remembered, I had to get the arcade version. I feel like I've bought and searched for this arcade version several times in my life so far, whenever I get a new device and I just want to hear that cool music that only moves forward when you move!
Thanks! Knew it had sumthin 2 do w/the rocks. Just wasn't sure how many. If u get to level 256, it starts with a pooka right on top of dig dug. With no way of killing it. Hence the term "kill screen!"
i think i may be one of the few gen z who enjoyed the old nintendo games, maybe not at an arcade but my older brother did get me consoles that would play these games
Haha! My grandmother was famously quoted as saying, "You might as well just set that dollar on fire," when referring to me putting into the arcade token machine.
Thank you for this sir I did not know this and I've loved dig dug ever since I was a child I will definitely have to try this out sometime Thank you for your content sir I hope you're having a great day sir God bless you and your family sir God bless you Jeremy Scruggs
You could certainly play with emulation via MAME, or if you truly love it, consider a quarter-scale replica with the real playable game inside. These are gorgeous! amz.run/6sCa
The first time you were able and you had to do something about the situation you had in your mind and I think that was the first thing you said you had done to make sure that I didn’t do something that was going on in my mind that I was going through I didn’t know if I had to be in the hospital for
Didn't Robot Chicken win an Emmy for animated short film for their Dig Dug skit? Or at least maybe they claimed it did when you watch the episode it's in.
The first time you were able and you had to do something about the situation you had in your mind and I think that was the first thing you said you had done to make sure that I didn’t do something wrong because I was trying not to be rude but I was not being nice 👍🏻

This brings back so many good memories of me playing Dig Dug with my sister. Great video!

It works in every console port, too, even the Atari 2600 version. Great way to get score points fast.
there’s an atari version of dig dug?

I love those little secrets and tips! Makes me play the games again and try it out :)
Glad you're enjoying them. I have many more on my list to produce, so keep an eye out!
This game blew my mind the moment I found out this guy was making music with his feet just by moving
Haha!
I agree - I thought everyone knew the two rock trick until I started talking about it online - many people never knew!
The nostalgia hits hard
Thanks for the tip i never knew you had to drop a rock for the vegetable to appear 😅

awesome! I didn't know that! love DigDug!
Thank you. This will prove very useful.
DigDug is my favorite arcade game.
Dig dug is probably one of my favorite arcade games, tied with Crazy taxi at the #1 spot

Find a free-play arcade event in your area and treat yourself. They're all over the place these days and a real blast of nostalgia.
Thank you! Come to love dig dug recently and never knew this one or the one you shared before ab scoring higher the deeper level you are
You bet! Thank you for watching.
I absolutely love dig dug but never knew this thank you
You bet!
i didn't even know dig dug had vegetables, this is so cool

Never played in an arcade but had it on one of my devices for a retro set and loved the game even though I was bad at it.
This man right here gave me a whole entire fuckin’ high score
Thanks for helping me neat my HS. Will subscribe. :)
Thanks for the sub!
used to play this in my red gameboy, didn’t expect to be reminded of it.
Man i loved this game so much when i was little

Literally! 😀 Thanks for watching.
We need this guy in smash bros
That IS helpful!!!! 😎👍🏻
So it's like a bonus for clearing hazards that weren't part of your job description
I didn't know it! Hahahaha😅
Thanks!
I remember playing this in _Pacman Party_ for the Wii (yes i had that game for some reason)
That is cool. Thank you .
Glad you liked it!
i think i may be one of the few gen z who enjoyed the old nintendo games, maybe not at an arcade but my older brother did get me consoles that would play these games
I use to play this game as a kid and never knew that
thank you!
Wow. I never knew there was Vegetables and fruit that give points in this game
i’ve never been to an arcade with a dig dug but I have been in an arcade with Tetris. Also I’ve played dig dug on a plug and play.
I actually knew this one!
I used to spend whole days playing this exact game on an old arcade thing at a nearby restaurant. I didn’t even order food there I just played.
Hey dug, let's dig!
"Small potatos" got me
THANK YOU. You're the first to catch that. I was starting to fear it would go unnoticed. 😉
I remember my Great granmda saying: There you go again, giving money to the rich" as I was plunking down a quarter on Dig Dug. Ha ha
Haha! My grandmother was famously quoted as saying, "You might as well just set that dollar on fire," when referring to me putting into the arcade token machine.
Dig dug is my favorite arcade gamw
HEy I am glad someone else played this aswell.
02 baby here, I ne er knew about this but I will definitely try this next time I play
Im 17 and dig dug is my favourite arcade game
Thank you for this sir I did not know this and I've loved dig dug ever since I was a child
I will definitely have to try this out sometime
Thank you for your content sir

Glad you enjoyed, Jeremy!
I love dig dug
Now my bro here gonna get healthy
Ah yes, pineapple. My favorite vegetable. Just like the iconic fruit from Pac Man, bell and key
And like our favorite lunchroom vegetable, ketchup.
Ahem. DIG you know!
Didn't know that thanks
Great tip!
Retro for the win! This is something I'll try on Mame emulator!
Rock rock veg
Rock rock veg
WE WILL WE WILL ROCK YOU
You and those tricks.
Indeed.
I'm a 53 year old arcade gamer and I did not know this 😊
I never dropped the rocks so I never knew there were even bonus vegetable in the first place XD
I love digdug!
Awesome! I never figured out how the vegetables get there. Is there a way to prevent the bad guys from getting to the top without killing them?
Not once they become shadows and start passing through the dirt. Either you get them or they get you!
Pineapple, my favorite vegetable
Like ketchup.
Is it weird that I'm 12 years old and still have memories of this game?
Nope.
all i got from this is pineapple is a vegetable, guess i didnt play digdug enough to ever figure this out!
What’s the best way to play Dig Dug these days? It’s my all-time favorite and I’ve been hoping for a PC version.
You could certainly play with emulation via MAME, or if you truly love it, consider a quarter-scale replica with the real playable game inside. These are gorgeous! amz.run/6sCa
@@GenXGrownUp I’ve seen those. I’m soooooo close to putting one on my desk!
I played this on the Atari when I was like 10 or so every time I got the chance to in school furing free time
at least, I think I did
“the vegetables start out as small potatoes”
No, they start out as carrots
🤦♂️
I was today years old when I found out that dig dug has more than one round. I played it ALL THE TIME as a kid but I guess I just suck
I have never noticed this ever!!! How? How? How?
Another great tip!
Dang I thought I was the only person that knew this.
Wooow they're rocks I think when I was younger I thought they were cooked turkeys
Ha!
TIL: A Pineapple is apparently considered a vegetable in the Dig Dug universe. 😜
That's right. Just like the tomato. 😅
Another tip
The lower in ground the enemy is, the more points.
Try to get them to go to the lowest level
ruclips.net/user/shortsRh9BGEXjl6U?feature=share
I have played every console port of this game, the original arcade...
AND I ONLY FINDOUT THAT THERE US A VEGIE IN THE GAME!?
I never knew this.
Another tip is to try and move all of the enemies to the bottom and kill them there, you get more points the lower you are
ruclips.net/user/shortsRh9BGEXjl6U?feature=share
Did you know you can crush "ghosting" enemies with the rock, they just need to be 1/3 - 1/2 below it
Yes!
Cool!!!!
SHHHHHH DONT TELL MY SECRET lmao jkjk
Cool
Rock rock Ridge 🪨🪨🥕
The first time you were able and you had to do something about the situation you had in your mind and I think that was the first thing you said you had done to make sure that I didn’t do something that was going on in my mind that I was going through I didn’t know if I had to be in the hospital for
I find it ironic that the “small potato” is actually a carrot
I thought that this was common knowledge 😮
That's what I said.
@GenXGrownUp, it is still a good tip because not everyone had the chance to grow up in an 80s arcade.
Didn't Robot Chicken win an Emmy for animated short film for their Dig Dug skit? Or at least maybe they claimed it did when you watch the episode it's in.
Does this work on the 2600 version if the game
It does. I think it works for nearly every port of the game. Rock-rock-veg! 🥕
I searched up dig dug when i was younger because i wanted to play the game...... never again
Maybe it's because you spelled it incorrectly in your search.
@@GenXGrownUp I have big hands and my phone is small, I typed it correctly when I originally searched it up
Ha its weird for me to see the normal game because it reminds me about the horror game they make about this or .exe game to be more specific
I get a lot of comments about that on this video.
I can't remember how to kill the enemies I haven't played my nes in like 6 months
The first time you were able and you had to do something about the situation you had in your mind and I think that was the first thing you said you had done to make sure that I didn’t do something wrong because I was trying not to be rude but I was not being nice 👍🏻
I’m a dig dug god
Despite being a gen z, I'm proud to say I already knew this trick
That's why you should throw rocks and eat your veggies kids
I played this on my dad's phone
How do you shoot so fast?
If you take a step it will disengage your air hose and you can quickly re-engage it.
@@GenXGrownUp wow I never knew that thx 🙏
Dig, dug?
Dig Dug.
because pineapples are vegetables
If ketchup is a vegetable, all bets are off.
Wait theres bonus vegetables
How you kill the monster things
By either over-inflating them with your air pump or crushing them with rocks.
@@GenXGrownUp ok thanks
