Hawktail's "Abbzug" instruction

- Here's a slow version of the Hawktail original tune “Abbzug” with a bit of additional information. This tune is named after the great character Bonnie Abbzug from Edward Abbey’s novel, The Monkey Wrench Gang. Not to be confused with real-life politician, activist AND eco-feminist Bella Abzug (incidentally she also played the violin!). Bonnie’s last name has two b’s and she was actually based on a real person. Anyways, hope you enjoy the tune!

Thank you, Brittany, for recording and uploading this tutorial!
I’m not a fiddle player, I’m a guitarist and trying to replicate this on guitar.
I dig that good ol’ tune and Hawktail’s unique style as well!
Wow, this is such a cool bluesy tune! Thanks for the slowed down version. BTW, Hawktail needs to make it out to the PNW, we love Oldtime too! Thanks for all the inspiring music.
Wow. Wonderful! I'm trying to adapt your melody to the mandolin, but hae to tune the G to A for modal A. Wish there was a little melody tab though. But this will make my one good ear work. Thanks. You guys are heaven.
Wow! Its so amazing to see you! Thanks so much for making this appearance. I haven't seen anything new from you or your band in such long time. This tune is probably above my playing level, but I was messing around with "In the Kitchen" which seemed a bit simpler. Its good to know about the alternate tuning aspects of this tune, so that people will be able to execute it properly. I hope all is well with you and that you get out and play with great success however you may define it.
OMG! Thank you so much for this video! Did you know that when I discovered this song I was so drawn to it that I decided to start learning how to play the violin. It's been 1.5 years since, still very far, far, far away from a level to be able to play along. Thank you for sharing!
So country, so good, so backwoods
This lady is truly amazing; what a talent. I love everything she has done. But...Brittany...when will you head over here to the UK???
That's what I call a garage band!
Wow thanks so much for posting this! All the articulations, bowing and fingerings are so much easier to scope here than just grabbing it from the CD. I love this tune so much and it is a blessing to be able to get it down in loving detail. Keep'em coming (Annbjorg?)
Good idea to do Annbjorg! I will try to get to that soon. :)
The vocals are hard to hear, the rest is golden
Always amazing,, i love your fiddle style my friends,, salam from indonesia
Hello 👋 and thank you so much for sharing. I have just started to learn to play the fiddle about a month 1/2 ago. But I don't know how to read music and didn't know if you could recommend a good sheet music to note conversion chart, or any other beginner advice you could give me. I love your music, it really speaks to my spirit and my heart. This fiddle/violin has such an inner piece to it and it has been such a learning experience. Thanks again.
Hi Christy, thanks for writing! Very exciting to hear about you starting the fiddle. I don't know of a sheet music to note conversion chart, but I bet that exists. I usually send people to the best violin/fiddle teacher I know - Lauren Rioux. She has an online teaching site called JamWithLauren! There is a RUclips channel as well. All the best to you!!
