Thanks for the video! 4 month/ 3900 mile owner of 4th gen off road and 23 fff road 3rd gen. No issues yet on ther 4th gen (not even the dreaded active grill (knocking wood)! I love my truck almost as much as my dog! Need some rear air vents! Will change the oil at 5k myself. I am a member of Tacoma 4G as well! Unfortunately, the hater videos from non owners get more views, but thanks for doing the video!
The hate videos definitely do get more views. And more views equals more money for those content creators. It’s an ugly cycle but anger is always hot clickbait.
You keeping both trucks?? I definitely am 😎
@@teamoildrop Thank you sir for doing this video from the owners view. I have a TRD sport 22 and I am very happy with it but I really like so much of the improvements that the new Tacoma has.
One guy thinks, "The lowest AC fan speed is too high." Sheeesh.
@@tonylatham5915 😆 ITS COLD GRANDPA… THATS TOO DAM BAD
As an owner. This video is spot on. Stuff like this definitely takes a lot of work
@@mattspaulding7488 any personal gripes or big pros?
Always do your best and have fun. Never quit when you still have something to give. It's not a funeral, make some noise. Remember that you can't make everyone happy and if you do, then you are not doing your job right. @@teamoildrop
As a 1,098 driven miles 2024 TRD SPORT PREMIUM TACOMA I love your video. I agree with all the objective information you discussed. Thanks!!!
Very appreciative of your thoughts and comments.
Thanks
Greg
Any other owner notice the hood sort of flapping around near the windshield at highway speed? Seems like a thin or light hood. I've only had my TRD Sport for 2 days and love it, but am noticing a few nuances to get used to
@@DirtRoadRemedy that would annoy the crap outta me. Hopefully an easy fix. Maybe an adjustable rubber stop or maybe the hood isn’t fully tightened down?
Yes the hood is thin. I’ll watch mine literally deform because of wind on the highway
@@mattspaulding7488 on the flip side it's light and easy to lift, lol.
@@mattspaulding7488 that’s annoying, you have a sport or?
@@DirtRoadRemedy😂😂😂
I haven't driven a 4th gen yet but looks pretty obvious that the engine response and ride is way superior specially the ones with rear spring coils, main issue at this point is ridiculous prices, other comments are just opinions. PD: I own a 3rd gen
Yeah you’re not wrong… the Chevy Colorado has a better bang for buck right now. I think in due time all midsize will no longer be the cheap option, but simply a size option
I am retired so i really don't mind spending my days sitting in the waiting room of my toyota dealers service waiting room. it sure beats staying home and watching "the view". and i get free coffee every morning
As long as you are happy.......
Greg
Also interesting about the wireless charging. But one of my favorite things about the truck is wireless CarPlay. I don't even have to take my phone out of my bag/pocket. And I don't need to charge it in the car coz my phone is on a Magsafe charging dock all night while I sleep, so it's always at 100% and it lasts all day long. Charging a phone too much can be bad for the battery.
Can't wait for it. Hopefully my exoerience is as fluid and smooth as yalls have been
Great video. After seeing all the hate videos and stuff (which I refuse to watch), it's good to see an objective video putting you a fair disclosure of pros and cons.
Thank you
Greg
Good comparison. Car Care Nut recently said the turbo 4 in the Tacoma and other Toyota/Lexus models dating back to 2021 hasn't had any problems.
He is certainly a wealth of knowledge.
Greg
The 4th Gen really is a TuRD.
We certainly value your opinion.
Greg
They have sold near 45k of them and maybe a handful have had problems. I think it's a great truck and I had an 18 Pro before this. Would trade again in a heart beat
4:48 This is a great example of how you should take these cons with a grain of salt. I have the non-14 inch screen so for me it's too small. And there is absolutely nothing wrong with the backup camera. The lines all are accurate and everything works as expected. It does have kind of a fish-eye effect (much less so than the front camera of the premium package) but it's inconsequential at least to me. Kind of like the automatic wipers, but then this could also be anitpicky thing.
@@fiftyshadesofurban That’s very fair, I’m their defense I wanted all pros and cons that at were big or small to owners. It really helped flesh out a lot of details 🍻
Major interior pro that was missed: resting your arm when the window is down is now comfortable! I think you mentioned it in your review video too. That was one of the few things on my gen 3 that used to annoy me, and they fixed it 😁
Also, yes, it has a smaller gas tank, but I get as many miles per tank as I did before, and it’s cheaper to fill up. It’s a pro and a con, kind of.
@@kevinbradley8613 definitely, I have find most fit he new interior to be a huge step forward
@@kevinbradley8613 wow I chopped that response up lol. I think the interior is a huge improvement 🍻
@@teamoildrop lol, I wasn’t gonna say anything. More like a kind of fun puzzle with words. I figured that was what you meant
Before I purchased my 2023 TRD sport l read and watched videos about the truck and it was the v6 was a dog it was way outdated and so on yet the sales numbers were amazing and the reputation for quality and reliability was great so l test drove one and loved it and the negatives were not an issue for me at all and purchased one and the truck performs great and does everything l need now they updated the truck and people are now complaining about the updates , you can’t please everyone.
@@lloydalmeida7699 your truck is outstanding. I hope you’re getting a lot out of these channel because that truck will outlive all of us if maintained. Don’t have any FOMO (fear of missing out), you’ve got a great ride. And for sure, everyone can’t be pleased 😌
@@teamoildrop thank you by the way your videos are outstanding 👍
@@lloydalmeida7699 😌 🍻
I love the peppy 4cyl turbo engine from my new 2024 TRD Sport Tacoma. It moves with ease paired with the 8-speed tranny.
Great to hear your opinion, it certainly is a change from the 3.5L V6
Greg
10:33 We have to fight it. If not you won't even be able to buy a car in the future.
Agreed 100%
I love mine. I got my right rear side swipe and broke the tail light. It's been 5 weeks and still waiting for a replacement. Uggg!
@@ThePoisonDrummer 🤕 any complaints otherwise?
FYI, the front differentials on the new Tacomas can snap during off-roading conditions. Toyota is aware of this and a remedy is in the works.
Yes, they are certainly working through that issue.
Its rather common for some issues to arise with new model updates.
Thanks for bringing that topic to light

@@tim3308 Those were white lies for the sake of misdirection and surprise 😮
@@teamoildrop A lie is a lie, no matter what the color. Our government that we have now has been proving that for the past 3 years. Some people say that it's only cheating when they get caught.
ARE and LEER are going to have a great time making caps/ toppers with that spoiler projecting off the rear. When the Cap slides and hits it 😬. Going to want to cut a pool noodle to slip in between.
They will be designed to fit with the rear projection.
Greg
@@teamoildrop I understand that it would be molded to fit. But when the back was flat on all other generations, when cap slide happened it made contact with a larger surface area. When this happens on the 4th gen all the weight will impact on one smaller point causing greater damage to the truck, and the cap. Think of it like a knife, or better yet an axe edge.
@@upforanadventure3039 if the cap is designed to fit and torqued down there won’t be a gap or slide brother. If a cap is sliding it wasn’t properly installed in the first place 🤷♂️
Pro: Current reliability trending better than Tundra.
Con: unknown long term reliability
Not hard to beat tundras right now. Every time I see one on the road I think that’s a fancy time bomb. The amount of effort needed to recall those engines across US dealerships is monumental.
Chrysler looking like a good deal compared to tundra at the moment lol
@@ironrain1x an unfortunate fact
Good God, look under the hood, what a mess. All that for an over-worked 4 cylinder?
Man, Imma keep my 2013 taco until I die.
@@radf-zf7ev elaborate on over worked my good man. Also, the 4.0 is a SOLID engine
4 cylinder is too small for a truck this size so they slapped a turbo on it so the poor booger is always running hard. Kiss your 300k Tacos goodbye, will this new one even make 200k? Why did they do this? Well, for govt subsidies but still, this bites.
Start/stop nonsense, back seat has no room and the rear seat fold down doesn’t lay flat. My 3rd gen is more practical in these regards. Pricing is also killing my interest. Maybe in 4-5 years when it’s refreshed and stats on this engines reliability are in.
@@SCSuperheavy114 No start/stop on these trucks thankfully. And yes, let’s hope for reliability!
So after livin with my Tacoma for a couple days. I can tell you the ONLY con I have for ya is the tiny volume knob that comes with the 8" screen. It's absolutely horrible. It's incredibly hard to turn. Pressing it in does play/pause or is a mute button or something, and I've pressed it in a bunch of times by accident while trying to rotate it, and it's smooth. It's terrible. 8" screen doesn't even bother me but man that knob is CRAP.
I u=installed harget knurled knobs in my 2023. I think you're correct, the 2024 knows are extremely small. I'm sure there will be replacements available very soon.
Greg
@@teamoildrop Some guy on a forum reminded me that there are volume controls on the steering wheel. They are vol up down buttons so it takes more effort but it's less annoying.
I'm planning on in a few months finding a TRD Off-Road with the premium package and trading mine in for it. I just can't live without the cameras man. It's so hard to see and I always used it on my Gladiator. Once you use the 360 cameras you can never go back.
I actually kinda like the cloth seats. Which is weird but unfortunately there's no way to get just the 360 camera system w/large screen. The cameras are only on the premium package.
@@fiftyshadesofurban I hear ya. I feel if we are paying this much and new, might as go all out within reason. I’m RIGHT at 50k with everything I want but leather. I’ve got a sponsor lined up with Katzkin to remedy that 😎
People complaining about "too much tech on the 4th gen" and then half a breath later, "But I have to turn the wipers on myself?!!!" Maybe Toyota needs to sell a TRD OFF ROAD ALOE TISSUES to dry the tears. But legit complaint: that worthless tupperware skid plate that ships on most trims. What a joke. Total profit grab. Had a Hyundai Sonata with literally equivalent underbody protection on it. Maybe this was Scion inspired.
Yeah, that and the electric parking brake give me the most beef 😡
WTF did they do to the back seat!? I keep thinking people are exaggerating but 2014 Tacomas really do suck balls.
@@radf-zf7ev same as it has been for the last two gens but now comfier and better padding 🤷♂️

@@pooch15 hmm, just tested and worked. What did it do for you?
@@teamoildrop oops nvm now its working
Still wouldn’t buy one; especially a first year design vehicle. My personal opinion, when I test drove a Tacoma trd off-road (premium package) recently, yes the low end torque was impressive but I didn’t feel any extra horsepower with the mid to high range of the 4-cylinder engine. The interior seemed just too cheap and low quality plastic that I feel, wouldn’t stand the test of time. Each to their own with the boxy body style but I think the 3rd gen Tacoma body style to be more streamlined and versatile looking. Overall, yes there’s some improvements with this fourth gen but not enough major upgrades from the third gen for me to trade in my 2022 trd pro that’s paid for. I’ll pass but more power to the people that like and prefer this new disposable/throwaway Tacoma.
Ya know, the 3rd gen is truly a thuing of beauty. Let’s keep ours forever.
@@teamoildrop I agree and plan on it. Have no desire to have ANY truck with a 4-cylinder engine under the hood, instead I’ll just get a full size truck with at least a V6………
@@deantrainr that 3.5 f150 is looking sharp 👀
That screen is SO annoying; I can't believe they put tvs in rigs.
@@radf-zf7ev they’ve got the 8” for you small screen lovers 😎

@@seaneastman6323 rear slider? Like rear window slider? I’ve got that on my 4th

@@jayczyzyk9707 crazy. I had to fight for months to get mine and was usually beat by a few hours when the allocation would become available from Toyota. I have to import mine from Wyoming once it’s built just because it’s been so hard to get 🤯
actually, not true buuuuut freedom of speach eh? They don't last long in Canada either. top trims stay a little longer at the dealership from what I've seen but that's perfectly normal
My dealer in Ottawa Ontario can’t keep them on the lot. If you see one it’s got a sold sticker on the dash or it’s a bare bones sr5. Love my solar octane 24 off road premium, big improvement over my previous 22 trd off road.
It’s all about the graphs. When the quality line slopes 📉 and the price line slopes 📈, you have a big problem!
Agreed. Let’s see these be reliable long term. THATS the big what if right now.
The 4th Gen really is a TuRD.

I feel a lot of those "pros" disappear because people mod their trucks anyways- Shocks , lift, tires for instance. But stock vs stock, sure I pick up what you're laying down. Love what you guys do. 👍.. I'm curious on the 33s with " no rubbing" what offset are stock? Everyone loves poke with their -10 or -12 - - aftermarket wheels... Will that rub?
