It also shows you how brainwashed and conditioned the older generations are and why their views on feminism are so misguided. If you actually think that a religion that prioritizes men over women and treats women as second class citizens is okay, then something is seriously wrong with you. If you actually think that feminism isn't needed in a world that tries to tell women what they should and should not do with their bodies, has child brides, restricts access to safe abortions in certain countries and proper birth control, and has religions that tell women to 'obey' their husband, then you should check yourself into a mental asylum. At least the younger generations understand that there is more to being a woman than having a uterus.

***** I agree with her that many people call themselves "feminists" but still hate on women who wear make up, are stay-at-home moms or work in the sex industry, because that's pretty much the opposite of what feminism is trying to achieve. Though I can't say it's purposeless, because girls and women are still sold and treated like objects with no rights in many countries, which happens less often to men - girls and women still get harassed on a daily basis for wearing revealing clothes and are taught not to be sexually active, to be "pure", as the only purpose of a woman is to please a man, which also happens to men, but less often.
I'm not saying that the problems many woman have to deal with do not happen to men, or generally, anybody else, hell no, many men are raped and harassed as well, but it's the way we teach little girls and boys about how they are "supposed" to be is what makes me angry. Because nobody is "supposed" to be something, just because they were born with a penis or a vagina ( or both, or neither ).

some of those women could be post menopause. They can think somewhat logically and look at what has occurred in the last 10 yrs. The term feminism used to mean equality for women. Now it's used as a childish double standard to have your cake and eat it to. Chivalry is dead you say? I don't suppose that coincided with the beginning of slut walks. Come on people - use your brains.

We love feminism and feminists. At least there are women in some places struggle even for their rights of living. Mike McCready Except the wage gap is very much not a myth, no matter how much some people try to deny it. In some industries some men DO earn more than women, get more promotions etc. There are also industries where the gender bias is reversed (such as teaching) and some where it's negligible that is exists at best.
But you're right about people like Tumblr feminists and the young girls on things like Buzzfeed videos that have no clue what they're on about and if you try to actually get them to answer questions they'll just keep stating the same 'facts'...
I've lost count how many people I've seen bring up that Feminism MUST be about women cause of the 'Fem' part. It annoys the shit out of me. It's just that when the word was coined it WAS about giving women more rights; they couldn't vote, they were expected to stay at home and have kids... all things like that.
The point of Feminsm has changed a lot, but women are definitely not equal to men yet. It's about balancing the scales, not tipping it too far in any direction. A lot of young 'Feminsts' don't understand that.

Even as a feminist myself, I agree that the movement has turned into something completely wrong. Misandry. That's what many "feminists" have turned to. And it's sad, too. Now feminism is not taken seriously. It's something people laugh at and insult because of the crazy ones you see in the media. It takes the attention away from the important issues that feminism fights against, such as the wage gap and everyday sexism. The reason I'm a feminist is because, even at the age of 14, I've already had plenty of experience with things that proper definition feminists are trying to prevent. And to be honest, it really sucks that because of these corrupt misandrists, I can no longer speak about these very real issues without being mocked and hated. It's like, I KNOW they exist, but it's so frustrating because I feel as though I can't do anything until we start seeing feminism for what it truly is. It means equality, even if some of the changes don't benefit me directly, but instead help men on their way to equality as well. I may fight primarily for women's rights, but that doesn't mean I disregard or ignore men's.
And please, if someone you know (or anyone really) is a feminist, give them a chance to actually explain what they believe instead of just immediately laughing at them and calling them a "feminazi". Let them tell you what they believe. And also remember that everyone's experiences with sexism are different. Just because you may have never experienced it doesn't mean it doesn't exist. Just because most men aren't like that doesn't mean it's not an issue. Saying someone shouldn't believe in something just because you don't experience problems with it is like saying someone shouldn't be seeking treat, net for an illness that doesn't necessarily affect you. If you don't wanna fight for equality, at the very least, stay out of our way. Don't make it harder for those of us who are truly trying to make a difference.

    • @arianorid3255
      @arianorid3255 6 лет назад +51

Dark knight Well duh. That's doesn't mean we shouldn't try and do something about it. In some countries, women are literally killed and tortured simp,y because they are women. I can't go out in public wearing something slightly revealing without the risk of being catcalled. I don't know a single woman who hasn't experienced discrimination or assault in some way. Not. One. Just because everyone may be discriminated against at some point in their life doesn't mean we shouldn't try and make a difference. That's like saying that just because everyone gets bullied at some point in their lives means we shouldn't try and prevent bullying.

    • @Sigmanovar
      @Sigmanovar 6 лет назад +9

Aria Norid I'm just saying more important shit to worry about, honestly there's men out here that would kill to just get a lil bit of attention from a woman,(cat called),trust me you don't know what you have in till you don't got it, considering the high rate of makes that's shooting up schools and other crazy shit, maybe they just needed some cat in the life's,but obvious no one raised them to know how to get women.
Point is women have it dam near as good as men of not better now a days, now there's pros n cons to everything.
But femnist movement should be focused on the countries and not trying to replace men with soft feminine men,who can't protect this country

    • @arianorid3255
      @arianorid3255 6 лет назад +42

Dark knight it's not a matter of whether or not it's legal. It's the fact that it happens all too often. Most people won't be robbed in their lifetime. Most people won't be murdered. Most people won't be killed in a drunk driving accident. And yet, 1 in around 6 women will be sexually harassed at some point. And statistically, only a small fraction of rapists will face any sort of consequence for their actions. What's more, in some states, it's legal for a rapist to sue a victim if they get pregnant because of the rape and want to have an abortion. There's a whole lot of problems and reasons why even if sexual harassment is illegal, people are scared to report it. I'm not trying to "change the culture" or whatever. I've heard too many stories of University rape cases where the rapist was still let back into college and let off with a warning. The truth is, most of the time, sexual abusers will face little to no repercussions. And THAT is the problem.

The reason some people dont fully support this feminist movement is because 'modern day feminism' has completely lost its proper meaning. Making woman the superior race instead of fighting for equality. As a woman, i dont want to get higher pay checks and more privelage just because of gender. I want people to see me work hard and gain that respect. Celebrities and modern feminist ideals have ruined everything people have fought for. They generalise all men as being evil and ridicule them. I mean if i had a son i wouldnt want them to live in a society where only women matter. Feminism is about all genders collectively working together to support each other in this world. To live as equals.
But unfortunately those 'feminists' preach only about the west where women actually get jobs and pay checks, when in some countries women dont even have a voice.

It’s so sad to see men being denigrated for this when they work as hard as everyone. Plus, i think this has expand to the point that feminazis don’t let man express themselves fully, and if they do, they clearly “dont care” about women, which is totally false.

The people who call themselves feminists are often not - they don't even know the true meaning of the word
The true feminists fight for equality
      It's nature
      It basically states :-
We are human and human beings deserve the same rights , irrespective of their gender
The people who call themselves feminists for their own advantage , so they can receive special treatment , are not feminists.
Feminism is the key to our survival.
And it is also not only about empowering women , it is also about encouraging men to express their emotions freely , telling them that they won't be judged because of that , as human beings are social and emotional beings. This can reduce the high suicide rates among men.
Hope you understand what I am trying to say👍

And to see them using this newfound power to spread hate, paranoia and misinformation... yeah, I'd be dissapointed too.

The sad part is that a lot of women who identify as feminists (mostly women of color) care immensely about the issues that affect "first-world" women (trans issues, birth control restrictions, the wage gap, representation in government etc) AND about issues that effect women in third world countries (genital mutilation, unequal rights, sexual abuse, poverty, domestic violence, infanticide etc)
But "feminists" like Taylor Swift and Hillary Clinton make us all seem like "misandrists" and elitists when most of us are far from it.
Then again, there are many non-feminists who will look for any excuse to disqualify and demean feminists as a whole because they're afraid of what true equality would entail.
The views of the younger women give me a lot of hope. Never be ashamed of wanting equal rights. We deserve it. :)

In fact, equality is antithetical to the goals of most feminists and the ideology behind feminism. If you are truly about equality, why adopt a gender biased term? Egalitarian would be the equal term. Also, egalitarianism is about true equality. While feminism is just about hoisting women. Even when they don't actually need it, and at the expense of men.

They were born in an earlier time with less rights and respect for women, and their responses reflect that upbringing. It's encouraging that the younger women know how awesome they are as women.

I partially agree. The older woman should know how much an impact it has brought (they can now vote etc.), but they also understand that as time passed the definition of a feminist has been taken on by clueless self-claimed feminist, who aren't fighting for what they should be. For example, some people are fighting for something like being single in first world countries. Is that something that needs to be fought for? No. They have the freedom regardless. If it were to fight against forced marriage, then that would be completely different.
There's also pseudo-feminists who would say something like: "You're such a sexist! I don't need you to hold my bags! Do you think I'm weak just because I'm a woman!? You've made me mad, now drive me home!". (take note on the last sentence).

The pay gap has been debunked many times. Not only that, but the equal pay act was passed in 1963 stating it is illegal to pay men and woman differently. So that is proof that there is no pay gap, because it is illegal. People, also, do not take into account how much more time woman take off than men. Woman usually work in places that are not male dominated, but there are woman who work in male dominated places, but we never hear about them, because the news wants us to believe that we are "oppressed". The only woman who do not have equality are the ones in the middle east where if they do not wear their hijab or do certain things they get stoned and or killed, but here we do not have that. Here woman have the rights to get jobs, don't need a male guardian and don't get stoned and or killed for voicing their opinion or wearing whatever they want. It’s just frustrating because I as a women don’t want to be underestimated or taken advantage of but at the same time I want to be protected by a man because that’s what is was always like in nature? It’s confusing and weird.

    • @ellabooxo

Littlesmile b personally, I think that, with the empowerment of women, empowerment of men will come naturally. Once we stop thinking feminine characteristics are negative, hopefully we'll stop pressuring men to be 'manly', start giving them more equal custody, be more accepting of trans people, etc.

    • @gavi7627
      @gavi7627 9 лет назад +3

Littlesmile b Feminism is about equality.
Men do not need to be empowered. Femininity needs to be empowered. The reason men expressing their emotions (your example) is seen as bad and weak is because those are feminine traits--and a man being feminine is BAD/sarcasm. So it is not the man that needs to be empowered, it's femininity, so if a man acts feminine, it does not make him 'less of a man,' it just makes him a human with the right to express himself as he pleases without fear.
A lot of people don't realize that feminism aims to equalize the genders.

Wow, this is a interesting video. I love how they started the eldest to the youngest and it shows how feminism changed so much over the years. I was so happy to see that the 11yr old all the way down to the 5yr old didn't know what feminism was. They shouldn't know what that is. What they should know about is just being a kid, play their little hearts out, and have fun.

I think this video proves the older the wiser. I tip my hat to those older women, they know what the real world is like because they've lived it. The younger the people got the more naive they were. Life isn't fair no matter what you do. I'm hoping feminism is just the new fad young women are getting into because if feminism was serious, feminists should be buying plane tickets to the Middle East, where the oppression of women is actually serious. I personally haven't met a feminist who wasn't an arrogant and entitled lunatic. There might be a few who aren't but I've never met them, and I've met a lot. Also a feminist isn't someone who wants equal rights for both genders, that's an equalist. So I don't know why the word feminism would make someone think equality. I'll probably take some hate for my opinion, but oh well it's the Internet. If you're mad, go cry about.
    P.S. I'm female, age 23

    • @illuminatedmoonlight
      @illuminatedmoonlight 9 лет назад +1

IFHY_ALL Feminism isn't a bad thing and it IS about equality. What do you think it's about if not equality? You really think it's about women being above men? Have you read the definition? Have you researched feminism and how far women have come? And about "buying a plane ticket" umm..that's part of the point. We're saying it's wrong and we're on their side. People who are "against feminism" are telling them what's happening to them is okay since women here are living almost equally. That's more arrogant in my opinion. Looking at your own life and saying I'm fine, we don't need feminism! We do. And you stated one of the reasons why. I'm not trying to hate on you. There's just FAR too many women saying they want equality but they are not feminist.

***** I think actions speak louder than words. One of the popular feminist hashtags is KillAllMen, which definitely alienates a lot of people. Fines for "manspreading" (which was made possible through the work of feminists) have disproportionately affected poor minorities. A mob started by feminists ran Joss Wedon off Twitter with nasty messages and threats. They've run public speakers and comedians off university campuses. They promoted the sale of "This is what Feminism looks like" shirts that were made by women in a sweatshop.
Historically, feminism has been a great thing, and we should all be thankful of the efforts that it took for gender equality to come so far. But right now, feminism is out of touch with reality. It has been taken over by toxic individuals and a lot of us have moved away from it to call ourselves Gender Egalitarians.
People are finding out that they don't have to label themselves as a feminist in order to support equal rights.

Sono No it's not. It's a cancer that is straight up causing division between men and women. Men and Women are not equal and never will be. We are different. Men are better at some things, women are better at others. Forcefully equalizing everything is nothing but rebranded marxism. And that shit needs to be fought tooth and nail.
The older women have actually went through some life and understand that the modern iteration of feminism is fucking stupid. The early 20s women tend to be much dumber in this regard as they've been brainwashed by this stupid ideology without having experienced adult life properly yet, hence why they all sound like indoctrinated children.

It’s not about women being superior to men, it’s about women being valued and treated as equals.

I include both people that call themselves feminists and the very unpleasant individuals that belittle feminism and claim to know what women really want, which is deeply condescending. People who have no real idea about FGM, "honor" killing or the women's rights fought for in the resource rich world last century. I have no issue with those that describe themselves as feminist if they actually have real insight.

xXxTr0nxXx I think you are being a little short sighted if you think feminism is only about being able to work and vote. It is about EQUALITY for both sexes, that doesn't just mean being legally able to work and vote. It means ATTITUDES changing (NOT just laws) so that women don't have to face a glass ceiling at work or face being slut shamed in a way men never do. It means rape being taken as seriously as other violent crimes. I think you need to do a little reading on the origins of feminism.

Feminism boiled down is women empowerment the right to live and thrive and be treated the same as men. It isn’t hate towards men or trying to get above them it’s all about equality. So many “feminists” in the media today are not showing truly what it is and giving feminism a bad and hateful name. But honestly if you truly believe in equal rights you would look past the women who are falsely representing it and stand your ground.

    Feminism? = hypocrisy
Ask yourself this. If a woman chose to stay home to keep house and be a mother, would anyone dare (other than an occasional feminist) call her a lazy good for nothing?
Due to illness, I was a stay at home dad to my youngest daughter. All the while, I kept a spotless home, an immaculate yard, did all the laundry and served amazing home cooked meals. I serviced our vehicles regularly (at home, not a trip to the Jiffy Lube). I trimmed our trees, cleaned the gutters and maintained our mower, trimmer and chainsaw. Meanwhile, I mentored a widely loved, top of her class, extremely well grounded and now successful, independent child.
Throughout my stint as a stay at home dad, my wife was constantly asked by female friends and coworkers "Why do you put up with that shit?" "Tell him to get off his ass or get out.", "They're hiring at the mill you know". Of course, she must have agreed, otherwise I would have never heard about it.
During that time frame, I met dozens of stay at home mothers who never groomed the yard, never kept a spotless house or changed oil in the car. They didn't paint the house either, they didn't build on an additional bedroom or remodel the kitchen. Instead they sat on their asses and looked at their Facebook or browsed the mall while the kids were at school. Their children were obnoxious, mediocre students, who now live in their basement. Even yet, no one calls those mothers lazy, good for nothings. Instead people talk about what fantastic parents they were, merely because they drove the children to ball practice and back home, stopping to get diner in a box at McDonald's and Taco Bell.
I've known a few other fellas who were stay at home dads. They were only ever ridiculed and mocked, never once admired. They all experienced what I did and they all know what I know, that being the fact that women are writhe with double standards.
And feminism is just an empty word.

I think feminism is not only about fighting for equal rights for women, but for everyone like some of the younger women said. I wanna live in a world in which women can go swimming shirtless without being judged, or in which men can wear skirts and dresses without people looking at them as if they were aliens. A world in which anyone no matter which race, sexuality, gender or looks is accepted and is able to enjoy life. And that's what I think it's worth fighting for. This is what i think feminism is about.

You need to take history into the context. In western countries we are getting close to equal rights although we are still completely under represented in leadership and politics. And don´t forget, It has only been two generations that girls are going to college as much as boys. Two generations. Four generations ago girls would be shouted at, ostracized mobbed and discriminated against for wanting to study physics. Ask my mum.
And those people, her professors and classmates haven´t magically disappeared. They are still working in physics. In senior positions.

48 is a projection of sexist and patriotically manufactured ideals that this woman has likely been brought up with, I am not assuming so, she plainly explained it is common in her culture. She literally expressed the thought that men are superior and women should respect and pander to that. That is blatant sexism. I respect her and understand that this idea of superior masculinity is likely all she has known but domestic abuse and manipulative behaviour is hugely associated with the idea that the man in a relationship has control; unbalanced power dynamics cause women to feel as though they can not leave. She is in fact a perfect example of why we need feminism today. I hope she one day feels empowered enough to question these ideals and teach the younger girls in her life to be independent and strong in the face of adversity.

Feminism is so complex. It doesn't have one solid meaning. Feminism covers topics from sexism, misogyny, education, privilege, discrimination, body positivity, abuse, respect, stereotypes, rape culture, confidence, abortion, wage gap, lgbt+ rights, gender roles, etc. If it is intersectional, it also covers topics about racism, classism, and ableism because they are intertwined. It is inclusive of all genders; male, female, and non-binary. Overall, it is a very progressive movement if you learn about it. It is necessary today just as it was many years ago. Once you realize these issues are going on all around us, people can have an open conversation about them. We can make a change for ourselves, our loved ones, and our community. I am proud to call myself a feminist.

Shows how much wiser the older generation was. Read Proverbs 31:10-31 it’s shows a true biblical example of a virtuous women. It’s shows how valuable women are to the home when they are filling the position God has made us to be in. The proverbs 31 women is much less oppressed than the women screeching about equality these day. The only reason they don’t feel equal is because they have stepped outside the bounds of what womanhood is intended to be. In the eyes of God I’m equal to my husband but we have different roles in our home and in our marriage. It’s not inequality it’s completion of each other that’s what marriage was created by God to be.

Dictionary definition of feminism: the belief that men and women should have equal rights and opportunities.
That is why I am a feminist. That definition right there. We are all human beings and derive the same rights simple as that. People don't get it sometimes though, I'm 16 and I try to explain to my friends what it is but media has given this twisted definition that feminists hate men and want to be more powerful when that's not true at all. Feminists don't hate men or want more power over men that literally the exact opposite of what it is. Feminists just want equality of opportunities and equality of rights and equality in the world. Simple as that. ❤️

k hk I feel like they should still care about feminism in general. It's due to a lot of feminist activities in the past that we have the benefits we do today. I would hope, if it were my Mum for example, that she would want there to be even more improvements so things she had to put up with she was my age I won't need to. Where 'new age feminism' is concerned, the wage gap isn't new, it's something women have been fighting to close for a long time and is one of the things I'd expect those 40+ aged women to care about or at least be thankful that they now make a closer amount of money to their male counterparts than they did when they were younger.

I think I was around 8 when I finally learned what feminism meant. Before that I had a slight idea of it. I just thought of how all boys would say they're better and then we would say that we're better. By the time I was 10, I was fully aware of it and really wanted to change it (the patriarchy). I grew up with older siblings to tell me about this. I would go on walks with my sister where she taught me about this and where she would teach me Spanish, French, history, math, literature, and things like that because she wanted me to grow up smart and strong. I went shopping once with my other sister and I saw tons of ads where girls were only shown stick skinny because that's how you sell things apparently. I did grow up (this is only a few years later) and I am still seeing these things. I really think that educating children this is important. It's like teaching them about stranger danger and what number to dial in case of an emergency. We should know that this will be the next generation to continue our families and that they are not going to create the problems that some people in politics and a few other places have.

      3 1 / 0 3 That was maybe the purpose like 100 Years ago.
But Not today and not in the USA or Europe
The women there already are equal to men in terms of rights and opportunities and everything which is not related with yk anatomy or biology.
The purpose of modern feminism is to basically put women above men.
Why don't they bring the real feminism to the middle east, some asian countries and africa
Because that's where it maybe is needed and where it could eventually have a purpose.

Feminism is equality for men and women, but I tend to call myself an egalitarian instead because: 1. It means equality for *all* people, and 2. Misandrists are calling themselves feminists.

shannon marie They directly campaign to help women with women's problems, and they don't do this for men. There are no feminist campaigns that specifically aim to help men when it comes to men's issues. It's pretty obvious that feminism is a woman's movement, and to me that's fine. I just don't like when it masquerades as something it isn't.

    • @Kunoichify

i agree with your lasts points but i can't help but notice that some are indeed getting worked on! and like i said before many of these stem from misogyny- like men doing tough jobs, a lot of women cannot get these jobs because they are seen as weak and not good enough because they are seen as a 'mans job' which leads the majority of the workers being male. to add to this not many women would feel comfortable working in a place that is predominantly male.
yes feminism is a female movement but to be aware this movement you must have a general feeling for human rights as a whole
while there are issues for men, there is more discrimination towards women. if you take a look at women's rights a few decades ago, they were pretty much non existent right? yes that is the past, but it is impossible for that to be all sorted and over and flipped on to the back of men within the span of a few decades. there are the remains of female rights which need to be sorted!
in a society where my gender is an insult because 'girl' is seen as an insult, but to be strong you are told to 'man up'. or for being weak you are called a 'pussy' but to be strong you are told to 'have balls' is pretty self explanatory
some people call it victim complex and i don't want to make this personal but in the past few days i have had men throw sexual abuse at me in public for no reason whatsoever.
idk. overall i think feminism is misunderstood, the actual definition for feminism is equality of all genders. i think people focus on the misandrists and change the definition of feminism to suit it. though the true feminists remember the definition and stick by it by fighting for the rights of everybody of any gender.

Some of the older woman don’t get it, because they were raised in a time were men dominated the world. The kids of this generation are lucky to be able to grow up in a time, were they are taught to know their worth. And that they matter just as much as Any guy. Feminism is not allowing yourself to be treated like less then you are. Feminism isn’t saying women are better then men, or vice versa. It’s about EQUALITY. We all have the same worth, so therefore we should all have the same rights. I’m aware that some feminist’s have lost their purpose, and turned feminism into something that it’s not. But that’s not what feminism is. The true root of feminism is equality. So if you believe in equality, then that makes you a feminist. People need to stop using the word feminism as something its not. If your not talking about absolute equality, then feminism shouldn’t be the word you use
    edit:
“feminism (noun) : the advocacy of women’s rights on the ground of the belief in the social, economic, and political equality of the sexes.
the belief that men and women should have equal rights and opportunities. The doctrine advocating social, political, and all other rights of women equal to those of men”
there you go, the literal definition of feminism. keywords being *belief* , and *equal* . feminism is a belief, therefore, if you *believe* that men and women are *equal* you are a feminist. anyone else have a problem?

99 Bottles of Bleach no. i’m saying that feminism by its root, means the equality of men and women. therefore, if you agree that we are equal, you are a feminist. literally by definition. feminism isn’t some sort of propaganda. if you believe that men and women are equal, you agree with the core message of feminism. just like if you believe that all races are equal, you are against racism. it’s not that deep. it’s also beyond me why you wouldn’t want to be a part of something that literally just means the equality of human beings. why is there just a bad stigma around feminism. and don’t give me that “it’s not necessary in this time” bullshit. because until rape culture- and so many other issues stop being such a problem for women, feminism is still needed. and just because you live in a first world country, doesn’t mean you have the right to turn a blind eye to the extreme sexism that still exists in so many countries around the world. women still don’t have basic human rights in so many places. it’s disgusting. and to turn around and act like it’s over dramatic to want to stand up for human rights is disgusting too.

    • @billiebitch4191

Arjun and Arnav Menon i am a feminist and humanist. to me, and by definition, feminism means the equality of men and women. i believe strongly in that message. but i do also believe that women need empowerment. just because men and women are treated equally in america, doesn’t mean it’s like that everywhere. there are many places around the world where women still do not have basic human rights. how do those women not need feminism? how do they not need empowerment? how can you see what is happening right here, with rape culture, and still say we don’t need feminism. just look at statistics. look at the difference between men and women when it comes to sexual assault. sexism is still very much present in our day to day lives. thankfully, it is much less of an issue then it used to be (thanks to feminists) but it still is. did you know one out of six women will be raped in her life time? did you know that 90% of adult rape victims are female? that doesn’t sound like equality to me. so yes, women do need equality, and empowerment.
